The gain of a transmitter for intersatellite communications is closely related to the performance of all the links. We calculate the transmitter telescope's gain with the help of the rigorous scalar diffraction theory and equivalent optical layout method. Furthermore, a comparison is performed with the conventional imaging method. The results show that the stop inside the telescope can affect the gain of the telescope. Effects of aniracetam on extracellular levels of transmitter amino acids in the hippocampus of the conscious gerbils: an intracranial microdialysis study

The effects of aniracetam on extracellular amino acid levels in the hippocampus of conscious gerbils, with or without transient cerebral ischemia/reperfusion, were measured by microdialysis and reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography. Increased extracellular levels of aspartate and glutamate that were observed in the hippocampus of conscious gerbils during transient global forebrain ischemia were reversed by aniracetam. In contrast, the level of extracellular gamma-aminobutyric acid was increased, while taurine was maintained at a higher level than other amino acids by administration of aniracetam (100 mg/kg, p.o.) 60 min before ischemia. Further, in contrast to ischemic animals, administration of aniracetam (100 mg/kg, p.o.) enhanced the release of glutamate and aspartate in the normal gerbil hippocampus. The results suggest that these effects might be due to a partial calcium agonist activity of aniracetam, and that the effects of aniracetam on amino acid levels might be a mechanism of protection against delayed neuronal death in the ischemic hippocampus, thereby improving memory dysfunction induced by ischemia/reperfusion. Chirp-enhanced direct modulation of a monolithic sub-Terahertz dual laser transmitter

A technique enabling 10 Gbps data to be directly modulated onto a monolithic sub-THz dual laser transmitter is proposed. As a result of the laser chirp, the logical zeros of the resultant sub-THz signal have a different peak frequency from that of the logical ones. The signal extinction ratio is therefore enhanced by suppressing the logical zeros with a filter stage at the receiver. With the aid of the chirp-enhanced filtering, an improved extinction ratio can be achieved at moderate modulation current. Hence, 10 GHz modulation bandwidth of the transmitter is predicted without the need for external modulators. In this paper, we demonstrate the operational principle by generating an error-free (bit error rate less than 10-9) 100 Mbps Manchester encoded signal with a centre frequency of 12 GHz within the bandwidth of an envelope detector, whilst direct modulation of a 100 GHz signal at data rates of up to 10 Gbps is simulated by using a transmission line model. This work could be a key technique for enabling monolithic sub-THz transmitters to be readily used in high speed wireless links. © 2013 IEEE.

10 Gb/s transmitter-based equalization for extended-reach multimode-fiber datacommunication links

Transmitter-based equalization is investigated for enhanced performance in 10 Gb/s multimodefiber links. Rigorous simulations and proof-of-principle experiments over 500 m of FDDI-grade fiber confirm for the first time the potential superiority of the technique relative to receiver-based schemes. © 2007 Optical Society of America.

High performance optical data links using hybrid CAP/QAM transmitter/receiver scheme

We experimentally demonstrate the first optical data link at 20Gb/s using hybrid CAP- 4/QAM-4 with transmission over 4.3km SSMF and a power penalty ~1.5dBo at BER=10-9. The hybrid CAP-4/QAM-4 link significantly outperforms a reference PAM-4 link. © OSA 2013.
