Disseny, desenvolupament i integració d'una nova capa presentació mitjançant Google Web Toolkit per a l'aplicació d'innovació docent InnovaCampus

InnovaCampus és una aplicació d'innovació docent que proporciona a la comunitat educativa una eina online d'autoavaluació per a estudiants universitaris. Aquesta eina permet als estudiants avaluar els seus coneixements i als professors analitzar-ne els resultats per tal d'extreure'n les corresponents conclusions. L'eina ha evolucionat any a any, i recentment s'ha dut a terme un redisseny de l'aplicació per tal d'aconseguir una aplicació modular utilitzant una arquitectura de tres capes que afavoreixi a futures ampliacions. Les capes de persistència i de negoci han estat desenvolupades en una primera fase del redisseny i la capa de presentació és la que dóna lloc al present projecte. Així doncs, el projecte consisteix en dissenyar, desenvolupar i integrar una nova capa de presentació de l'aplicació, amb la finalitat de proporcionar una interfície interactiva, àgil i eficient per tal d'obtenir un entorn amigable amb propietats visuals avançades. Tot plegat es pretén aconseguir integrant el framework Google Web Toolkit a l'estructura ja creada mitjançant el framework Spring i JPA.

The connectome viewer toolkit: an open source framework to manage, analyze, and visualize connectomes.

Advanced neuroinformatics tools are required for methods of connectome mapping, analysis, and visualization. The inherent multi-modality of connectome datasets poses new challenges for data organization, integration, and sharing. We have designed and implemented the Connectome Viewer Toolkit - a set of free and extensible open source neuroimaging tools written in Python. The key components of the toolkit are as follows: (1) The Connectome File Format is an XML-based container format to standardize multi-modal data integration and structured metadata annotation. (2) The Connectome File Format Library enables management and sharing of connectome files. (3) The Connectome Viewer is an integrated research and development environment for visualization and analysis of multi-modal connectome data. The Connectome Viewer's plugin architecture supports extensions with network analysis packages and an interactive scripting shell, to enable easy development and community contributions. Integration with tools from the scientific Python community allows the leveraging of numerous existing libraries for powerful connectome data mining, exploration, and comparison. We demonstrate the applicability of the Connectome Viewer Toolkit using Diffusion MRI datasets processed by the Connectome Mapper. ABCtoolbox: a versatile toolkit for approximate Bayesian computations.

BACKGROUND: The estimation of demographic parameters from genetic data often requires the computation of likelihoods. However, the likelihood function is computationally intractable for many realistic evolutionary models, and the use of Bayesian inference has therefore been limited to very simple models. The situation changed recently with the advent of Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) algorithms allowing one to obtain parameter posterior distributions based on simulations not requiring likelihood computations. RESULTS: Here we present ABCtoolbox, a series of open source programs to perform Approximate Bayesian Computations (ABC). It implements various ABC algorithms including rejection sampling, MCMC without likelihood, a Particle-based sampler and ABC-GLM. ABCtoolbox is bundled with, but not limited to, a program that allows parameter inference in a population genetics context and the simultaneous use of different types of markers with different ploidy levels. In addition, ABCtoolbox can also interact with most simulation and summary statistics computation programs. The usability of the ABCtoolbox is demonstrated by inferring the evolutionary history of two evolutionary lineages of Microtus arvalis. Using nuclear microsatellites and mitochondrial sequence data in the same estimation procedure enabled us to infer sex-specific population sizes and migration rates and to find that males show smaller population sizes but much higher levels of migration than females. CONCLUSION: ABCtoolbox allows a user to perform all the necessary steps of a full ABC analysis, from parameter sampling from prior distributions, data simulations, computation of summary statistics, estimation of posterior distributions, model choice, validation of the estimation procedure, and visualization of the results.

GTK+ toolkit on mobile Linux devices

Linux -käyttöjärjestelmä on laajasti käytössä palvelin- ja työpöytätietokoneissa. Linux on lisäämässä suosiotaan kuitenkin myös sulautetuissa laitteissa, kuten PDA:issa, kännyköissä sekä erilaisissateollisuusjärjestelmissä. Näytön koko, suorituskyky ja käytettävyys asettavat omia erityisiä tarpeitaan laitteiden graafiselle käyttöliittymälle. Linux -käyttöjärjestelmälle on olemassa useita käyttöliittymäkirjastoja, joista GTK+ on yksi yleisimmin käytetyistä. Tämä diplomityö esittelee sulautetun Linux -käyttöjärjestelmän ja GTK+ käyttöliittymäkirjaston, selvittäen miten hyvin ne soveltuvat mobiileihin päätelaitteisiin. Yksi suurimmista esteistä työpöytäkäyttöön suunnattujen teknologioiden, kuten GTK+, muokkaamisessa mobiileihin päätelaitteisiin on suorituskyky. Osana tätä työtä kehitettiin GtkPerf -niminen työkalu, jolla GTK+:n suorituskykyä eri alustoilla pystytään helposti mittaamaan ja havaitsemaan mahdollisia pullonkauloja. Tämän työn johtopäätöksenä on, että pienillä muokkailuilla ja optimoinneilla GTK+ soveltuu myös mobiileihin päätelaitteisiin. Ensimmäinen kaupallisesti saatavilla oleva GTK+ -pohjainen päätelaite, Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, on tästä osoituksena.

A Web-Based Environmental Toolkit to Support Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Implementation of Their Own Environmental Management System

With small and medium sized-enterprises (SMEs) taking up the majority of the global businesses, it is important they act in an environmentally responsible manner. Environmental management systems (EMS) help companies evaluate and improve their environmental impact but they often require human, financial, and temporary resources that not all SMEs can provide. This research encompasses interviews with representatives of two small enterprises in Germany to provide insights into their understanding, and knowledge of an EMS and how they perceive their responsibility towards the environment. Furthermore, it presents a toolkit created especially for small and medium-sized enterprises that serves as a simplified version of an EMS based on the ISO 14001 standard and is evaluated by the representatives of the SMEs. Some of the findings are: while being open to the idea of improving their environmental impact, SMEs do not always feel it is their responsibility to do so; they seem to lack the means to fully implement an EMS. The developed toolkit is considered useful and usable and recommendations are drawn for its future enhancement.

MapFish. A WebGIS 2.0 Framework: toolkit to build rich client WebGIS

MapFish is an open-source development framework for building webmapping applications. MapFish is based on the OpenLayers API and the Geo extension of Ext library, and extends the Pylons general-purpose web development framework with geo-specific functionnalities. This presentation first describes what the MapFish development framework provides and how it can help developers implement rich web-mapping applications. It then demonstrates through real web-mapping realizations what can be achieved using MapFish : Geo Business Intelligence applications, 2D/3D data visualization, on/off line data edition, advanced vectorial print functionnalities, advanced administration suite to build WebGIS applications from scratch, etc. In particular, the web-mapping application for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and a Regional Spatial Data Infrastructure will be demonstrated
