Descreve os objetivos e o programa do Seminário sobre Avaliação da Produção Científica, realizado em São Paulo pelo Projeto SciELO, de 4 a 6 de março de 1998. Inclui os temas e a abrangência dos trabalhos apresentados e as conclusões do evento.

Surgical treatment of cleft lip

We performed a systematic review of the literature on the surgical treatment of cleft lip, emphasizing the prevalence, complications associated with the treatment and the points of disagreement between authors. We conducted a literature cross-sectional search that analyzed publications in books, articles and on the databases SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online, PubMed, of the National Center for Biotechnology Information. We conclude that: 1) the severity of the cleft will indicate the technique presenting more advantages; 2) the different approaches indicate that there is no consensus on the optimal technique; and 3) the surgeon experience contributes to choosing the best option.

Parasites of the freshwater fish trade in Brazil: science metric study

This paper presents a science metric study of parasites of fish farming in Brazil, including a significant review of the literature. The methodology used was based on researching articles in three different databases, carried out ​on May 2012: ISI (Institute for Scientific Information), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), and Google Academic. The number of articles on fish parasites is mounting (currently over 110), having much increased since 1995. However, the quantity is still low compared with the amount of papers on parasites of fish from natural environments. In Brazil, the farmed fish that have been studied the most are pacu, tilapia and tambaqui. Monogeneans represent the most prevalent group, followed by protozoa and crustaceans. The regions most researched were the southeast and south, making up 84% of the total literature. The main issue addressed in articles was pathology, followed by treatment and record. In conclusion, the treatment of parasitic diseases of farmed fish in Brazil is still incipient, highlighting the importance and usefulness of management practices to prevent the occurrence of health problems.

Cocos nucifera (L.) (Arecaceae): A phytochemical and pharmacological review

Cocos nucifera (L.) (Arecaceae) is commonly called the “coconut tree” and is the most naturally widespread fruit plant on Earth. Throughout history, humans have used medicinal plants therapeutically, and minerals, plants, and animals have traditionally been the main sources of drugs. The constituents of C. nucifera have some biological effects, such as antihelminthic, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antitumor activities. Our objective in the present study was to review the phytochemical profile, pharmacological activities, and toxicology of C. nucifera to guide future preclinical and clinical studies using this plant. This systematic review consisted of searches performed using scientific databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, SciVerse, and Scientific Electronic Library Online. Some uses of the plant were partially confirmed by previous studies demonstrating analgesic, antiarthritic, antibacterial, antipyretic, antihelminthic, antidiarrheal, and hypoglycemic activities. In addition, other properties such as antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, cardioprotective, antiseizure, cytotoxicity, hepatoprotective, vasodilation, nephroprotective, and anti-osteoporosis effects were also reported. Because each part of C. nucifera has different constituents, the pharmacological effects of the plant vary according to the part of the plant evaluated.

Na busca de evidências científicas para a humanização do cuidado na enfermagem oncológica

Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar do ponto de vista teórico, as características do cuidado humanizado na assistência de enfermagem direcionada ao paciente oncológico. Para isso, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica na base de dados SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). Também foram utilizados livros e documentos voltados para humanização na assistência de enfermagem oncológica obtidos na Biblioteca “Jorge José Alves da Silva”, da Universidade Municipal de São Caetano do Sul. A seleção e análise dos artigos ocorreram no período compreendido entre os meses de março a outubro de 2012. Foram identificados um total de 21 artigos que atendiam aos critérios de seleção. A análise das informações foi realizada por meio da leitura exploratória dos artigos selecionados. A síntese dos dados foi realizada de forma descritiva. Foram identificadas três categorias temáticas que permitem concluir o seguinte: O câncer gera mudanças que interferem na vida da pessoa, não apenas físicas, mas sociais, espirituais e principalmente emocionais. É uma doença, ainda, percebida como um castigo e sinônimo de morte. O enfermeiro torna-se elemento fundamental no tratamento do paciente com câncer, e precisa de habilidades tanto técnico-científicas como de relações interpessoais. O cuidado ao paciente com câncer deverá considerar a humanização como premissa que sustenta o fazer na enfermagem. O cuidado humanizado na abordagem integral implica o envolvimento do “ser enfermeiro” que transcende o cuidado na relação com o paciente com câncer e sua família.

Progresso científico em pequenos ruminantes na primeira década do século XXI

O interesse pelos pequenos ruminantes aumentou nos últimos anos sob os aspectos produtivo e científico. No Brasil, caprinos e ovinos são os que despertam maior interesse econômico. Assim, este trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de discutir o progresso científico com caprinos e ovinos nos últimos dez anos. Foram pesquisadas várias bases de dados, entre elas as do Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), da Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO, da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES, do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística - IBGE e da Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - FAO. Na última década, os pequenos ruminantes têm merecido especial atenção dos pesquisadores, o que pode ser comprovado pelo aumento de 41% nas publicações mundiais envolvendo estas espécies, o que foi acompanhado por aumento ainda mais expressivo, 219%, em âmbito nacional. A evolução também foi observada sob os aspectos metodológicos dos projetos, ressaltando a abordagem multidisciplinar nas pesquisas mais atuais. Nos últimos dez anos, houve crescimento do aporte de recursos para editais temáticos demandados pela sociedade e pela cadeia da carne e do leite, além da preocupação com qualidade, competitividade e sustentabilidade.

Uma arma docente: escrita como reflexão, empoderamento e mudança

O presente trabalho problematiza de que forma a escrita sobre a prática pedagógica pode contribuir para a promoção do empoderamento do professor. Para isto, desenvolvo uma pesquisa documental (LÜDKE; ANDRÉ, 1986), a partir das escritas de um grupo de professores, denominadas “Pipocas Pedagógicas”, crônicas em que são relatados acontecimentos de sua vida escolar, como profissionais e também como alunos. Estes professores são participantes do “Grupo de Terça” vinculado ao Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Educação Continuada (GEPEC), ligado ao Programa de Pós Graduação da Faculdade de Educação da UNICAMP. A pesquisa, foi subsidiada por entrevistas com dois destes professores escritores, para melhor compreender como se desenvolve essa prática. A partir da análise deste material, o estudo perpassa sobre a importância da reflexão sobre a prática pedagógica, como forma de pesquisá-la. Estas temáticas foram necessárias para aprofundar o conceito de empoderamento, e poder pensá-lo dentro da realidade educacional, uma vez que a reflexão articulada ao conhecimento são fatores que podem levar ao empoderamento. Em função disso, realizei uma pesquisa bibliográfica, buscando o conceito de empoderamento em duas bases teóricas: SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) e Anais da ANPEd (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação), nos quais analisarei os artigos referentes aos Grupos de Trabalho: GT03 – Movimentos Sociais, Sujeitos e Processos Educativos; GT06 – Educação Popular; GT08 – Formação de Professores; GT18 – Educação de Pessoas Jovens e Adultas, fazendo um recorte entre os anos de 2000 a 2011. Desta forma, pretendo contribuir com reflexões que possibilitem (re)pensar formas de se chegar ao empoderamento docente e a consequência disto nos modos de se enxergar à educação

Agressividade infantil: análises de artigos científicos

This project has its topic on child aggression. Child aggression has always been present in the school environment. Therefore, aggressive behaviors have been interpreted as violence in which the educators have come to complaining earlier now. This study has its objective to survey published articles in electronic magazines, which talk about thematic aggression, child aggression and to systemize and analyze these procedures. Therefore, there will be a survey on the articles about this set of themes based on the data from Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online). In this data base, there are indexed published articles in electronic magazines from different areas of knowledge considered relevant. The articles will be identified by the keywords of aggressiveness, children, aggression, childhood, infantile, schools and their combinations

Autismo e família: revisão bibliográfica em bases de dados nacionais

Early studies involving childhood autism attributed to family involvement in impairment of psycho-emotional development of the child. The purpose of this study was to review the literature related to autism and family in two national databases (Theses Database of Capes and Scientific Electronic Library Online) without defining a specific period as well as identify the main thematic focused. Were located 29 studies in Theses Database of Capes, the first record in 1990 and 12 in Scientific Electronic Library Online, the first publication in 2001. The results were grouped into seven categories. The categories “Quality of Life” and “Family Relations” concentrate most of publications on Theses Database. Already in Scientific Electronic Library Online, mostly refers to the “Family Relations” and “literature review”. It was found that none of theses or dissertations was published in scientific paper format, hampering the dissemination of research in the area.

Dançando o ritmo do preconceito: uma análise do estido waacking com o enfoque no sexo masculino

Understanding dance in all its educational aspects, creative and liberating, this of course work completion back motivating information for new studies and reflections. This study did a literature review to contextualize and detail reach the story and how it perpetuates in practice the dance style Waacking, sought the understanding of how the body is inserted in our society, made notes on the Sport Psychology regarding the topic fear and shame, and pledged to address the conflicting issues of gender and sexuality, to then be possible to develop what has been objectified. This study sought to establish whether there are national publications on the Waacking dance style and what their contributions to the Brazilian context, verifying the presence of stereotypes and prejudices to males in it are inserted. As used method, the survey was conducted in online databases having the following sites as a source of scientific academic content to nationwide: Google Scholar (like the filter to search only in Portuguese language - as the focus of the research is to gather national publications); Journals Portal CAPES / MEC; and SciELO - (Scientific Electronic Library Online). The review process took place using the categorization model, which was essential to be able to extract the information that met relevant from the criteria that have been pre-established, thus enabling the completion of this work Completion of course

Privatização da educação no Brasil: como o tema vem sendo tratado em publicações de periódicos que estão no Scielo

Education is a basic right of every citizen guaranteed by the Federal Constitution of 1988, so that everyone is able to exercise their civil, political, economic and social. But in Brazil, this right has not yet been effected in all its concreteness and current privatization strategy have brought change to the right to education. Recent research from GREPPE (Group of Studies and Research in Educational Policy) identify different modalities of privatization of basic education, with emphasis on the privatization of supply, management and organization of the pedagogical work through the adoption of private educational systems. This study aimed to identify and discuss how the issue of privatization of education in Brazil is currently being treated in journal articles contained in the database SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online. A sífilis na gestação e sua influência na morbimortalidade materno-infantil

Syphilis in pregnancy is a public health problem, responsible for the high intrauterine mortality rates. This article aims to present a review of historical and epidemiological aspects, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, the treatment of maternal and congenital syphilis, and its perinatal repercussions. The manuscript also describes the Brazilian main policies in public health care for pregnant women with syphilis and for congenital syphilis eradication. The set of words used were “congenital syphilis”, “syphilis in pregnancy” and “syphilis prenatal care”. The databases searched were PubMed (National Library of Medicine - USA), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), IBECS, and WHOLIS Cochrane Library, from 1980 to 2011. Fifty-six articles were included in this review, 18 institutional technical manuals, two textbooks and 36 articles relating to maternal and congenital syphilis. The present review showed that there is a gap between intention and action needed to control and eradicate the disease especially with regard to the expansion of access, not only in relation to the number of visits recommended male gender, it is important to assess the quality of their content as well as the actions to be carried out between appointments.
