Attached to this letter is a letter to James Ramsay Crooks from Henry Nelles saying that he is sorry, but he will not be able to attend the arbitration hearing between the executors of his father’s will and Mr. Notttman until his son Robert returns (2 pages in total, handwritten), May 15, 1839.

Neugier und Zweifel - Informationskompetenz anders!

In der UB Kassel beginnen wir das allseits geforderte Lebenslange Lernen in Kursen zur Informationskompetenz für unsere NutzerInnen – von der ersten Minute an. Wir lehren die TeilnehmerInnen unserer Kurse nichts. Wir lassen sie lernen: das ist ein Paradigmenwechsel von der teaching library zur learning library. Diese Initiierung und Moderation des Prozesses ist anspruchsvoll. Von BibliothekarInnen erfordert es eine neue Souveränität: von der Bühne der Lehre abzutreten, um das Lernen professionell zu leiten. Statt „Aufstellungssystematik“ oder „Fernleihe“ heissen unsere Lernziele „Neugier und Zweifel“. Wir wecken Neugier als Lernhaltung, die mit dem Kurs beginnt, aber nicht mit dem Kursende endet, sondern Langzeitwirkung besitzt. Damit ist der Raum entstanden für Zweifel als Voraussetzung für alles Denken und nachhaltiges, anwendungsbezogendes Lernen. Wir siedeln die Erarbeitung bestimmter Informationseinheiten in der individuellen Arbeitssituation der TeilnehmerInnen an – zeitlich auch und gerade nach dem Kurs – und sorgen dafür, dass dieser Lernprozeß in Gang kommt. Gleichzeitig erwarten wir von den TeilnehmerInnen viel – und erreichen damit Erstaunliches, bis hin zur Produktion eines veröffentlichungsreifen Artikels. Wie uns all dies (seit Herbst 2006) gelingt, wir dabei auch noch Personalressourcen sparen und zu qualifizierteren Lernerfolgen kommen, ist zu erfahren in meinem Bericht aus der Praxis: “Neugier! Und Zweifel! – Informationskompetenzkurse anders!“

Bikesharing i Ludvika : ett initiativ från Idéteknik, Anders Dahlberg

Med tre stora expansioner inom näringslivet, ABB, Spendrups och gruvdrift under Väsman, står Ludvika inför omfattande förändringar. De nya arbetstillfällena väntas dra med sig ökad trafik genom inpendling. För att avlasta befintliga flaskhalsar samt för att öka attraktionsvärdet på Ludvika för inflyttande och turister har därför denna förstudie kring möjligheterna för utveckling av ett lånecykelsystem, LCS, gjorts. Det visar sig att Ludvika, med omnejd, har goda förutsättningar för att kunna utveckla ett eget LCS och exportera detta på en kraftigt växande marknad. Detta kräver dock innovation och nytänkande då det redan finns starka konkurrenter som erbjuder standardiserade system. Att endast köpa in ett LCS till Ludvika är knappast intressant då staden är i minsta laget för att det ska bli lönsamt. Däremot kan det vara intressant att stödja utvecklingen av ett dalaproducerat system då detta kan ge synergier t.ex. inom ökad användning av RFID-teknik i regionen samt en grön image till Ludvika och de aktörer som knyts till systemet.

Unilateral Facial Paralysis Caused by Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

The Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a rare disease caused by an infection of the geniculate ganglion by the varicella-zoster virus. The main clinical features of the syndrome are as follows: Bell palsy unilateral or bilateral, vesicular eruptions on the ears, ear pain, dizziness, preauricular swelling, tingling, tearing, loss of taste sensation, and nystagmus. We describe a 23-year-old white woman, who presented with facial paralysis on the left side of the face, pain, fever, ear pain, and swelling in the neck and auricular region on the left side. She received appropriate treatment with acyclovir, vitamin B complex, and CMP nucleus. After 30 days after presentation, the patient did not show any signs or symptoms of the syndrome. At follow-up at 1 year, she showed no relapse of the syndrome.

Investigations Concerning Bentonite Deposits Near Ramsay, Montana

The purpose of Part I of this report is to determine the origin of the bentonite deposits, also to locate them with reference to section corners in the vicinity and to determine their extent. The field work for this report was done in the fall of 1933 and during the spring of 1934. The roads, geologic contacts, and culture in general were mapped with the use of an open sight alidade and plane table. Distances were determined on the roads by the speedometer on the automo­bile; the detailed survey in the immediate vicinity of the deposits was done with use of the Brunton compass and pac­ing. The purpose of Part II in this report is to determine if the bentonite deposits immediately west of Butte, Montana are of com­mercial importance and also to determine the use to which they are best suited.
