This paper presents the development of an autonomous surveillance UAV that competed in the Ministry of Defence Grand Challenge 2008. In order to focus on higher-level mission control, the UAV is built upon an existing commercially available stabilised R/C helicopter platform. The hardware architecture is developed to allow for non-invasion integration with the existing stabilised platform, and to enable to the distributed processing of closed loop control and mission goals. The resulting control system proved highly successful and was capable of flying within 40knott gusts. The software and safety architectures were key to the success of the research and also hold the potential for use in the development of more complex system comprising of multiple UAVs.

The monomeric tin(II) species SnR2{R = C(SiMe3)2C5H4N-2} reacts with [Os3(H)2(CO)10] in hexane to give [Os3(-H)SnR(CO)10]1 quantitatively; 1 is the first formal stannyne complex of the triosmium nucleus, in which the picoline nitrogen is coordinated to the tin atom, and which is itself also reactive, being a potential precursor to high nuclearity SnOs clusters.

In this work we provide estimates for the bi-Lipschitz G-triviality, G = C or K, for a family of map germs satisfying a Lojasiewicz condition. We work with two cases: the class of weighted homogeneous map germs and the class of non-degenerate map germs with respect to some Newton polyhedron. We also consider the bi-Lipschitz triviality for families of map germs defined on an analytic variety V. We give estimates for the bi-Lipschitz G(V)-triviality where G = R,C or K in the weighted homogeneous case. Here we assume that the map germ and the analytic variety are both weighted homogeneous with respect to the same weights. The method applied in this paper is based in the construction of controlled vector fields in the presence of a suitable Lojasiewicz condition. In the last section of this work we compare our results with other results related to this work showing tables with all estimates that we know, including ours.

O tema desta tese a lgica da premiao escolar, compreendida como uma estratgia de regulao da gesto escolar, sustentada na lgica gerencial, que quer tornar-se hegemnica nas escolas pblicas brasileiras. Visando a compreenso do objeto, foram identificadas e analisadas as referncias polticas e econmicas, sociolgicas, psicolgicas e filosficas que lhes so constituintes, e seus significados fundamentais, e foi investigada uma experincia especfica de gesto escolar premiada. Na etapa inicial da pesquisa foram utilizadas a pesquisa bibliogrfica, necessria para a compreenso das referncias da lgica da premiao, e a pesquisa documental, que permitiu a anlise de documentos da escola e dos organismos de premiao. Um Estudo de caso foi utilizado para a investigao da singularidade de uma escola de referncia da lgica da premiao, a Escola de Ensino Fundamental e Mdio em Regime de Convnio So Francisco Xavier, referncia nacional em gesto escolar democrtica em funo de vrios prmios recebidos. Afirma-se que a escola efetiva uma gesto com caractersticas que a aproximam da gesto democrtica, em funo do uso de estratgias participativas que envolvem os diferentes sujeitos da escola e da comunidade, mas que, ao desenvolver aes consonantes com os editais de premiao a que concorrem, aproxima-se das caractersticas da gesto empresarial, valorizando a meritocracia, o individualismo, o pragmatismo e a anlise sistmica. Algumas das marcas da gesto da escola pesquisada so a ambigidade, j que so evidentes prticas gestoras pautadas na democracia e na lgica do mercado, e o apelo participacionista. Concluiu-se que os editais de premiao ganham fora para regular a vida da escola e os sentidos de pblico, qualidade e participao so ressignificados em funo da perspectiva assumida.

Studying the sociobiology and behavioral ecology of cetaceans is particularly challenging due in large part to the aquatic environment in which they live. Nevertheless, many of the obstacles traditionally associated with data gathering on tree-ranging whales, dolphins and porpoises are rapidly being overcome, and are now far less formidable. During the past several decades, marine mammal scientists equipped with innovative research methods and new technologies have taken field-based behavioral studies to a new level of sophistication. In some cases, as is true for bottlenose dolphins, killer whales, sperm whales and humpback whales, modern research paradigms in the marine environment are comparable to present-day studies of terrestrial mammal social systems. Cetacean Society stands testament to the relatively recent advances in marine mammal science, and to those scientists, past and present, whose diligence has been instrumental in shaping the discipline.

Three structural typologies has been evaluated based on the nonlinear dynamic analysis (i.e. Newmark's methods for MDFs: average acceleration method with Modified Newton-Raphson iteration). Those structural typologies differ each other only for the infills presence and placement. In particular, with the term BARE FRAME: the model of the structure has two identical frames, arranged in parallel. This model constitutes the base for the generation of the other two typologies, through the addition of non-bearing walls. Whereas with the term INFILLED FRAME: the model is achieved by adding twelve infill panels, all placed in the same frame. Finally with the term PILOTIS: the model has been generated to represent structures where the first floor has no walls. Therefore the infills are positioned in only one frame in its three upper floors. All three models have been subjected to ten accelerograms using the software DRAIN 2000.

Analysis of the collapse of a precast r.c. industrial building during the 2012 Emilia earthquake, focus on the failure mechanisms in particular on the flexure-shear interactions. Analysis performed by a time history analysis using a FEM model with the software SAP2000. Finally a reconstruction of the collapse on the basis of the numerical data coming from the strength capacity of the elements failed, using formulation for lightly reinforced columns with high shear and bending moment.

Negli ultimi anni sono state sviluppate varie soluzioni tecniche per la progettazione sismica di strutture. Questa ricerca sviluppa un metodo di confronto basato sull'analisi di costi di costruzione e danni causati dal sisma. Il metodo viene applicato al caso di studio della scuola di Bisignano (CO, Italia). L'edificio stato progettato conformemente alle NTC 2008 con approccio tradizionale e combinando il contributo di dissipatori viscosi e dissipazione isteretica. Le strutture vengono poi analizzate sotto diverse condizioni sismiche al fine di calcolare i costi di riparazione attesi e comprendere quale soluzione tecnica risulti pi economicamente vantaggiosa a parit di azione sismica di progetto.

With the outlook of improving seismic vulnerability assessment for the city of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), the global dynamic behaviour of four nine-storey r.c. large-panel buildings in elastic regime is studied. The four buildings were built during the Soviet era within a serial production system. Since they all belong to the same series, they have very similar geometries both in plan and in height. Firstly, ambient vibration measurements are performed in the four buildings. The data analysis composed of discrete Fourier transform, modal analysis (frequency domain decomposition) and deconvolution interferometry, yields the modal characteristics and an estimate of the linear impulse response function for the structures of the four buildings. Then, finite element models are set up for all four buildings and the results of the numerical modal analysis are compared with the experimental ones. The numerical models are finally calibrated considering the first three global modes and their results match the experimental ones with an error of less then 20%.
