STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case review. OBJECTIVES: In the present study, the neurological outcome, retirement and prognostic factors of patients with spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (SCIWORA) were evaluated. SETTING: Swiss national work accident insurance database. METHODS: The medical histories of 32 patients who were insured by the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (SUVA) and had SCIWORA between 1995 and 2004 were evaluated thoroughly. Moreover, all available magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were evaluated. RESULTS: At the last follow-up, none of the patients had complete spinal cord injury, only 4 patients had severe deficits and 12 patients had normal motor and sensory function in the neurological examination. However, only 7 out of 32 patients had returned to full-time work and 10 out of 32 patients were fully retired. Both the presence of spinal cord change (ρ=0.51) and higher maximum spinal cord compression (ρ=0.57) in MRI scan correlated with the likelihood for retirement; older age (ρ=0.38) and physical load of work (ρ=0.4) correlated with retirement to a lesser extent. CONCLUSION: Although the neurological outcome of SCIWORA is mostly good, the retirement rate is high. Presence of spinal cord change and severity of cord compression are the best predictors for the degree of retirement.

INTRODUCTION: Nebivolol, a highly selective beta1-adrenergic receptor-blocker, increases basal and stimulated endothelial nitric oxide (NO)-release. It is unknown, whether coronary perfusion is improved by the increase in NO availability. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the effect of nebivolol on coronary flow reserve (CFR) and collateral flow. METHODS: Doppler-flow wire derived coronary flow velocity measurements were obtained in ten controls and eight patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) at rest and after intracoronary nebivolol. CFR was defined as maximal flow during adenosine-induced hyperemia divided by resting flow. In the CAD group, collateral flow was determined after dilatation of a flow-limiting coronary stenosis. Collateral flow index (CFI) was defined as the ratio of flow velocity during balloon inflation divided by resting flow. RESULTS: CFR at rest was 3.0+/-0.6 in controls and 2.1+/-0.4 in CAD patients. After intracoronary doses of 0.1, 0.25, and 0.5 mg nebivolol, CFR increased to 3.4+/-0.7, 3.9+/-0.9, and 4.0+/-0.1 (p<0.01) in controls, and to 2.3+/-0.7, 2.6+/-0.9, and 2.6+/-0.5 (p<0.05) in CAD patients. CFI decreased significantly with intracoronary nebivolol and correlated to changes in heart rate (r=0.75, p<0.001) and rate-pressure product (r=0.59, p=0.001). DISCUSSION: Intracoronary nebivolol is associated with a significant increase in CFR due to reduction in resting flow (controls), or due to an increase in maximal coronary flow (CAD patients). CFI decreased with nebivolol parallel to the reduction in myocardial oxygen consumption.

The Global River Discharge (RivDIS) data set contains monthly discharge measurements for 1018 stations located throughout the world. The period of record varies widely from station to station, with a mean of 21.5 years. These data were digitized from published UNESCO archives by Charles Voromarty, Balaze Fekete, and B.A. Tucker of the Complex Systems Research Center (CSRC) at the University of New Hampshire. River discharge is typically measured through the use of a rating curve that relates local water level height to discharge. This rating curve is used to estimate discharge from the observed water level. The rating curves are periodically rechecked and recalibrated through on-site measurement of discharge and river stage.

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Topographische Vorstellung der neuen russischen Haupt-Residenz und See-Stadt St. Petersburg : samt ihrer zu erst aufgerichten Vestug welche von Ihro Czaar. Maj. Baptist Homann. It was published by Io. Baptist Homann ca. 1718. Scale [ca. 1:25,000]. Map in German. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the 'Pulkovo 1995 Gauss Kruger Zone 6N' coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, drainage, built-up areas and selected buildings, fortification, ground cover, and more. Relief is shown by hachures. See allwo St. Petersburg, and view: Crohn Schlot. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.
