Drug use is a preventable behavior; drug addiction is a treatable disease; and a balanced approach of proven and promising prevention, treatment and enforcement is required to protect Iowans from drugs now and in the future. Drug abuse itself is a two-faceted problem, affected by both the available supply of and the demand for illegal drugs and other substances of abuse. Any strategy dealing with both the supply of and demand for drugs of abuse must be three-fold and involve these coordinated components: 1) Prevention strategies to discourage the initial human demand for drugs, 2) Treatment for those who already abuse or are addicted to drugs, in order to halt their drug-seeking behavior, and 3) Law enforcement actions to decrease the supply of illegal drugs and bring to treatment those who otherwise would not seek help. It is with these three approaches in mind that the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy presents the 2012 Iowa Drug Control Strategy. Mark J. Congress established the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) with passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which authorized $40 billion for the SCHIP program through Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2007. Under the program, a federal block grant was awarded to states to provide health insurance to children from families with income about Medicaid eligibility levels.

Fragebogenstudien haben gezeigt, dass ängstliche Musiker vor und/oder während eines Auftritts möglicherweise unter Hyperventilationssymptomen leiden. Berichtete Symptome beinhalten Kurzatmigkeit, schnelles oder tiefes Einatmen, Schwindelgefühl und Herzklopfen. Bisher hat jedoch noch keine Studie getestet, ob diese selbstberichteten Symptome tatsächlich kardiorespiratorische Veränderungen widerspiegeln. Das Hauptziel dieser Studie ist es, zu bestimmen, ob sich Auftrittsangst bei Musikern physiologisch über kardiorespiratorische Muster äußert. Wir haben insgesamt 74 Musikstudenten von Schweizer Musikhochschulen getestet. Diese Studenten wurden aufgrund ihrer selbstberichteten Auftrittsangst (STAI-S) in zwei Gruppen unterteilt: ängstliche Musiker und nichtängstliche Musiker. Die Studenten wurden in drei unterschiedlichen Situationen getestet: Ausgangszustand, Auftritt ohne Publikum, Auftritt mit Publikum. Wir haben folgende Parameter gemessen: a) kardiorespiratorische Muster und endexpiratorisches CO2, welches eine gute nichtinvasive Schätzung des Hyperventilationsgrades liefert und b) subjektiv wahrgenommene Emotionen und subjektiv wahrgenommene physiologische Aktivität. Das Poster zeigt die ersten Resultate der 15 ängstlichsten und der 15 am wenigsten ängstlichen Musiker. Das Hauptinteresse gilt den folgenden Punkten: Herz- und Atemfrequenz, subjektiv wahrgenommenes Herzklopfen, subjektiv wahrgenommene Kurzatmigkeit und subjektiv wahrgenommenes Angstgefühl. Die Resultate dieser Studie zeigen erstens, dass ängstliche und nichtängstliche Musikstudenten zu den verschiedenen Messzeitpunkten eine vergleichbare physiologische Aktivität aufweisen und zweitens, dass ängstliche Musikstudenten ein signifikant höheres Angstgefühl haben und signifikant mehr Herzklopfen und Kurzatmigkeit wahrnehmen vor und/oder während eines Auftritts mit Publikum. Dies deutet darauf hin, dass sich ängstliche und nichtängstliche Musikstudenten a) bezüglich der subjektiv wahrgenommenen physiologischen Symptome und des selbst berichteten Angstgefühls vor und/oder während eines öffentlichen Auftritts unterscheiden und sich b) bezüglich der untersuchten physiologischen Reaktionen nicht unterscheiden.

This report is a compilation of data on reported terminations of pregnancy in Iowa. These are terminations that actually occurred during the period from January 2000 through December 2000. The annual reporting of termination of pregnancy events is required by state legislation. With this legislative requirement, Iowa joins the other 49 states, the District of Columbia, and New York City in providing information that relates to issues of pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, live births, and fetal deaths (1). This information contributes to the ability of public health officials and policy makers to better understand these issues. The Iowa reporting system is a variation on the model published by the National Center for Health Statistics in 1987 (2). These guidelines described the criteria and expectations for reporting pregnancy information.

Overall, in 2002, annual pregnancy terminations in Iowa increased. In 2002, a total of 7,280 pregnancy terminations were reported in the reporting areas. This represents a 6.4% increase from 2001, when the same reporting areas showed 6,845 pregnancy terminations. Induced terminations of pregnancy increased by 508 cases from 5,722 to 6,230 in 2002, which represents an 8.9% increase. Spontaneous terminations of pregnancy decreased by 75 cases from 1,119 to 1,044, which represents a 6.7% decrease.

The total number of pregnancy terminations decreased from 7,602 in 2000 to 6,845 in 2001. This represents a 10% decrease. Induced termination decreased from 6,059 to 5,722 (a 6% decrease) and spontaneous termination decreased from 1,541 to 1,119 (a 27% decrease). Pregnancy terminations by maternal and child health regions (MCH) • The fertility rate for the state as a whole increased from 62.3 per 1,000 to 62.6 per 1,000, from 2000 to 2001. In 2000, 15 MCH regions had a higher rate than the statewide fertility rate, while in 2001, the number of MCH regions with a higher rate than the statewide fertility rate dropped to 12. Region 7 continued to have the highest fertility rate and region 12 continued to have the lowest rate. • The pregnancy rate decreased from 74.6 per 1,000 to 74.1 per 1,000. Region 16 continued to have the lowest pregnancy rate. However, region 23 had the highest pregnancy rate in 2001, compared to region 7 in 2000. • The induced termination rate decreased 0.6 per 1,000 and down to 9.4 per 1,000 in 2001. Compared to 2000 reports, two fewer regions had a higher rate than the statewide induced termination rate in 2001 (8 regions in 2000 vs. 6 regions in 2001). • The spontaneous termination rate for the state dropped to 1.8 per 1,000 from 2.5 per 1,000. The number of regions with a higher spontaneous termination rate decreased from 9 to 7. Region 14 had the highest rate, and region 20 had the lowest. • The statewide induced termination ratio increased from 145.7 per 1,000 to 149.6 per 1,000. Region 12 had the highest ratio for both years, and region 22 had the lowest ratio. • The statewide spontaneous termination ratio decreased from 39.7 per 1,000 to 29.3 per 1,000. One less region was higher, compared to 2000 data (9 regions in 2000 vs. 8 regions in 2001). In summary, the geographic distribution of the 2001 data showed a pattern similar to that seen in 2000. Generally, the frequency for both induced and spontaneous terminations decreased by month of occurrence, gestational age, marital status, and education level and mother’s age

En este estudio se realizó una encuesta con el fin de evidenciar el conocimiento y la práctica de la Educación Sexual en adolescentes que acudieron al servicio de consulta externa de Medicina General en dos Instituciones Prestadoras de Servicios de Salud (IPS) de la ciudad de Bogotá, una de régimen contributivo y otra de régimen subsidiado. Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal, a 100 adolescentes, mujeres y hombres, a través de la aplicación de un instrumento prediseñado con un contenido de 17 preguntas donde se indagó acerca de: planificación familiar, conducta sexual, educación sexual, embarazo adolescente y conductas de riesgo en adolescentes. En relación al régimen de aseguramiento en salud que tenían los adolescentes, las diferencias encontradas en sus respuestas fueron a nivel de: educación sexual recibida, acceso a los servicios de planificación familiar de las Empresas Promotoras de Salud (EPS), presencia de embarazo adolescente y consumo de alcohol asociado a la práctica de relaciones sexuales. Tras el análisis de la información obtenida con la aplicación de la encuesta, se concluye que es indispensable crear en las instituciones educativas públicas y privadas de la ciudad de Bogotá, una nueva herramienta metodológica a través de la cual se realice promoción de la salud y refuerzo de prácticas protectoras en educación sexual para adolescentes, pues persiste desconocimiento de la misma.
