The discrepancy between the PQCD calculation and the CLEO data for chi (c1)->gamma V (V=rho (0), omega, phi) stimulates our interest in exploring other mechanisms of chi (c1) decay. In this work, we apply an important non-perturbative QCD effect, i.e., the hadronic loop mechanism, to study chi (c1)->gamma V radiative decay. Our numerical result shows that the theoretical results including the hadronic loop contribution and the PQCD calculation of chi (c1)->gamma V are consistent with the corresponding CLEO data of chi (c1)->gamma V. We expect further experimental measurement of chi (c1)->gamma V, which will be helpful to test the hadronic loop effect on chi (c1) decay.

Studies on Pseudoscalar Meson Bound States and Semileptonic Decays in a Relativistic Potential Model
Resumo:
In this thesis quark-antiquark bound states are considered using a relativistic two-body equation for Dirac particles. The mass spectrum of mesons includes bound states involving two heavy quarks or one heavy and one light quark. In order to analyse these states within a unified formalism, it is desirable to have a two-fermion equation that limits to one body Dirac equation with a static interaction for the light quark when the other particle's mass tends to infinity. A suitable two-body equation has been developed by Mandelzweig and Wallace. This equation is solved in momentum space and is used to describe the complete spectrum of mesons. The potential used in this work contains a short range one-gluon exchange interaction and a long range linear confining and constant potential terms. This model is used to investigate the decay processes of heavy mesons. Semileptonic decays are more tractable since there is no final state interactions between the leptons and hadrons that would otherwise complicate the situation. Studies on B and D meson decays are helpful to understand the nonperturbative strong interactions of heavy mesons, which in turn is useful to extract the details of weak interaction process. Calculation of form factors of these semileptonic decays of pseudo scalar mesons are also presented.

We consider a non-local version of the NJL model, based on a separable quark-quark interaction. The interaction is extended to include terms that bind vector and axial-vector mesons. The non-locality means that no further regulator is required. Moreover the model is able to confine the quarks by generating a quark propagator without poles at real energies. Working in the ladder approximation, we calculate amplitudes in Euclidean space and discuss features of their continuation to Minkowski energies. Conserved currents are constructed and we demonstrate their consistency with various Ward identities. Various meson masses are calculated, along with their strong and electromagnetic decay amplitudes. We also calculate the electromagnetic form factor of the pion, as well as form factors associated with the processes γγ* → π0 and ω → π0γ*. The results are found to lead to a satisfactory phenomenology and lend some dynamical support to the idea of vector-meson dominance.

A nonlocal version of the NJL model is investigated. It is based on a separable quark-quark interaction, as suggested by the instanton liquid picture of the QCD vacuum. The interaction is extended to include terms that bind vector and axial-vector mesons. The nonlocality means that no further regulator is required. Moreover the model is able to confine the quarks by generating a quark propagator without poles at real energies. Features of the continuation of amplitudes from Euclidean space to Minkowski energies are discussed. These features lead to restrictions on the model parameters as well as on the range of applicability of the model. Conserved currents are constructed, and their consistency with various Ward identities is demonstrated. In particular, the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation is derived both in the ladder approximation and at meson loop level. The importance of maintaining chiral symmetry in the calculations is stressed throughout. Calculations with the model are performed to all orders in momentum. Meson masses are determined, along with their strong and electromagnetic decay amplitudes. Also calculated are the electromagnetic form factor of the pion and form factors associated with the processes gamma gamma* --> pi0 and omega --> pi0 gamma*. The results are found to lead to a satisfactory phenomenology and demonstrate a possible dynamical origin for vector-meson dominance. In addition, the results produced at meson loop level validate the use of 1/Nc as an expansion parameter and indicate that a light and broad scalar state is inherent in models of the NJL type.

We use QCD sum rules to calculate the branching ratio for the production of the meson X(3872) in the decay B -> X(3872)K, assumed to be a mixture between charmonium and exotic molecular vertical bar c (q) over bar vertical bar vertical bar q (c) over bar vertical bar states with J(PC) = 1(++). We find that in a small range for the values of the mixing angle, 5 degrees <= theta <= 13 degrees, we get the branching ratio B(B -> XK) = (1.00 +/- 0.68) x 10(-5), which is in agreement with the experimental upper limit. This result is compatible with the analysis of the mass and decay width of the mode J/psi(n pi) and the radiative decay mode J/psi gamma performed in the same approach. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. We use QCD sum rules to study the possible existence of a D(s)(D) over bar* - D(s)*(D) over bar molecule with the quantum number J(PC) = 1(++). We consider the contributions of condensates up to dimension eight and work at leading order in alpha(s). We obtain m(DsD*) = (3.96 +/- 0.10) GeVaround 100 MeV above the mass of the meson X(3872). The proposed state is a natural generalized state to the strangeness sector of the X(3872), which was also found to be consistent with a multiquark state from a previous QCD sum rule analysis.

We test the validity of the QCD sum rules applied to the meson Z(+)(4430). by considering a diquark-antidiquark type of current with J(P) = 0(-) and with J(P) = 1(-). We find that, with the studied currents, it is possible to find an acceptable Borel window. In such a Borel window we have simultaneously a good OPE convergence and a pole contribution which is bigger than the continuum contribution. We get m(z) = (4.52 +/- 0.09) GeV and m(Z) = (4.84 +/- 0.14) GeV for the currents with J(P) = 0(-) and J(P) = 1(-), respectively. We conclude that the QCD sum rules results favors J(P) = 0(-) quantum numbers for the Z(+) (4430) meson. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We study the production of D (sJ) (2317) mesons in relativistic heavy ion collisions using the quark coalescence model. The predicted D (sJ) (2317) abundance depends sensitively on the quark structure of the D (sJ) (2317) meson. We have also evaluated the absorption cross sections of the D (sJ) (2317) meson by pi, rho, kaon and K* in a phenomenological hadronic model. We find that the final yield of D (sJ) (2317) mesons remains sensitive to its initial number produced from the quark-gluon plasma, providing thus the possibility of studying the quark structure of the D (sJ) (2317) meson and its production mechanism in relativistic heavy ion collisions.

We use QCD sum rules to study the recently observed meson Z(+)(4430), considered as a D*D-1 molecule with J(P) = 0(-). We consider the contributions of condensates up to dimension eight and work at leading order in alpha(s). We get m(Z) = (4.40 +/- 0.10) GeV in a very good agreement with the experimental value. We also make predictions for the analogous mesons Z(s) and Z(bb) considered as D-s*D-1 and B*B-1 molecules, respectively. For Z(s) we predict mZ(s) = (4.70 +/- 0.06) GeV, which is above the D-s* D-1 threshold, indicating that it is probably a very broad state and, therefore, difficult to observe experimentally. For Z(bb) we predict m(Zbb) = (10.74 +/- 0.12) GeV, in agreement with quark model predictions. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We study the beam-energy and system-size dependence of phi meson production (using the hadronic decay mode phi -> K(+) K(-)) by comparing the new results from Cu + Cu collisions and previously reported Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV measured in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Data presented in this Letter are from mid-rapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5) for 0.4 < p(T) < 5 GeV/c. At a given beam energy, the transverse momentum distributions for phi mesons are observed to be similar in yield and shape for Cu + Cu and Au + Au colliding systems with similar average numbers of participating nucleons. The phi meson yields in nucleus-nucleus collisions, normalized by the average number of participating nucleons, are found to be enhanced relative to those from p + p collisions. The enhancement for phi mesons lies between strange hadrons having net strangeness = 1 (K(-) and <(A)over bar>) and net strangeness = 2 (Xi). The enhancement for phi mesons is observed to be higher at root s(NN) = 200 GeV compared to 62.4 GeV. These observations for the produced phi(s (s) over bar) mesons clearly suggest that, at these collision energies, the source of enhancement of strange hadrons is related to the formation of a dense partonic medium in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions and cannot be alone due to canonical suppression of their production in smaller systems. We investigate the (D) over barN interaction at low energies using a meson exchange model supplemented with a short-distance contribution from one-gluon exchange. The model is developed in close analogy to the meson-exchange KN interaction of the Julich group utilizing SU(4) symmetry constraints. The main ingredients of the interaction are provided by vector meson (rho, omega) exchange and higher-order box diagrams involving (D) over bar *N , (D) over bar Delta, and (D) over bar*Delta intermediate states. The short-range part is assumed to receive additional contributions from genuine quark-gluon processes. The predicted cross-sections for (D) over barN for excess energies up to 150MeV are of the same order of magnitude as those for KN but with average values of around 20mb, roughly a factor two larger than for the latter system. It is found that the omega-exchange plays a very important role. Its interference pattern with the rho-exchange, which is basically fixed by the assumed SU(4) symmetry, clearly determines the qualitative features of the (D) over barN interaction - very similiar to what happens also for the KN system.

The ratio of the B+ and B-0 meson lifetimes was measured using data collected in 2002-2004 by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These mesons were reconstructed in B&RARR;μ(+)ν D*-X decays, which are dominated by B-0 and B&RARR;μ(+)ν(D) over bar X-0 decays, which are dominated by B+. The ratio of lifetimes is measured to be τ(+)/τ(0)=1.080&PLUSMN; 0.016(stat)&PLUSMN; 0.014(syst).

Charmed (and bottom) hypernuclei are studied in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. This completes systematic studies of charmed (Lambda(c)(+), Sigma(c), Xi(c)), and Lambda(b) hypernuclei in the QMC model. Effects of the Pauli blocking due to the underlying quark structure of baryons, and the Sigma(c)N-Lambda(c)N channel coupling are phenomenologically taken into account at the hadronic level in the same way as those included for strange hypernuclei. Our results suggest that the Sigma(c)(++) and Xi(c)(+) hypernuclei are very unlikely to be formed. while the Lambda(c)(+), Xi(c)(0) and Lambda(b) hypernuclei are quite likely to be formed. For the Sigma(c)(+) hypernuclei, the formation probability is non-zero, though small. A detailed analysis is also made about the phenomenologically introduced Pauli blocking and channel coupling effects for the Sigma(c)(0) hypernuclei.
