O mundo criado pelas imagens: paisagens e espaços coloniais na obra do holandês Frans Post

The aims of this dissertation is to study formation of the Dutch view seeing the colonial scenery in screens by Frans Post, as well as, to perceive a colonial world constitution through landscape paintings by him with his natural and human representation. The artist was the first to portray South American views, after he landed in Pernambuco with retinue of Dutch governor of colony, John Maurice, Prince of Nassau-Siegen. Post, by his 24 years old, was designated to represent for Dutch people their colony. The text reflects on visual construction of natural and human aspects in landscapes by Dutchman and how that aspects were included in colonizer imaginary about the strange world of America. European (Dutch) look about their conquered possessions in the New World was charged with exoticism and imagination. In order to understand that view, it`s paramount to study imaginary pictures reared by Frans Post, on his return to the Netherlands, and notions of landscape and exotic, wild and unspoiled nature which the Dutch people had when they thought about the Dutch colony in America. Our principal (visual) sources of research are six paintings: Vista da Sé de Olinda (1662), Vista das ruínas de Olinda (undated), Engenho (undated), Engenho (1660), Vista da cidade Maurícia e do Recife (1653), e Paisagem com rio e tamanduá (1649), all these canvases were painted when Frans Post returned to Europe. We seek to work through a methodology that focuses on investigation of primary visual and textual material, because these textual and pictorial representations reflect the 17th-century colonial view of colonial history themes of the - here called - Dutch America

Renderizações não fotorealísticas para estilização de imagens e vídeos usando areia colorida

Non-Photorealisitc Rendering (NPR) is a class of techniques that aims to reproduce artistic techniques, trying to express feelings and moods on the rendered scenes, giving an aspect of that they had been made "by hand". Another way of defining NPR is that it is the processing of scenes, images or videos into artwork, generating scenes, images or videos that can have the visual appeal of pieces of art, expressing the visual and emotional characteristics of artistic styles. This dissertation presents a new method of NPR for stylization of images and videos, based on a typical artistic expression of the Northeast region of Brazil, that uses colored sand to compose landscape images on the inner surface of glass bottles. This method is comprised by one technique for generating 2D procedural textures of sand, and two techniques that mimic effects created by the artists using their tools. It also presents a method for generating 21 2D animations in sandbox from the stylized video. The temporal coherence within these stylized videos can be enforced on individual objects with the aid of a video segmentation algorithm. The present techniques in this work were used on stylization of synthetic and real videos, something close to impossible to be produced by artist in real life

Imagens do patriarcado em "Buriti", de Guimarães Rosa

Este trabalho tem como escopo o estudo novela "Buriti" / Noites do Sertão (1956), de Guimarães Rosa, com ênfase nos aspectos da obra em que o tema do patriarcado no Brasil é discutido, com base em referências historiográficas e etnossociológicas contidas em obras como Casa Grande & Senzala (1933) de Gilberto Freyre, Raízes do Brasil (1936) de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda e de outros estudos pertinentes ao assunto provenientes do trabalho de intelectuais brasileiros contemporâneos de Guimarães Rosa e de outros mais recentes. Tendo em vista a análise das linguagens ficcional, estética e documental da literatura rosiana, buscou-se também fundamentação no estudo da recepção pela crítica no período entre 1970 e 2007, nas diversas perspectivas sob as quais não apenas a novela em pauta, mas o conjunto da obra de Guimarães Rosa tem sido estudado, no intuito de apreender as diversas dimensões em que as questões ligadas às instituições patriarcais no Brasil são ressignificadas, a fim de compreendê-las como contribuições narrativas sobre uma fase sensível da vida brasileira ? a primeira metade do século XX. E, sobretudo, como uma forma de escritura na qual Guimarães Rosa exercita um viés particularmente arguto da sua criação: a rememoração historiográfica aliada a um tipo de narrativa que, nesta pesquisa, convencionou-se chamar de fusão dos horizontes histórico e estético, numa perspectiva que propõem ao leitor numerosos questionamentos sobre o tempo, a arte e a literatura brasileira desse período. Problemas que este estudo pretendeu, de alguma forma, entender e atualizar, sob um enfoque crítico, em face da importância da literatura para a iluminação de novas dimensões ainda ocultas da vida brasileira, em especial da obra rosiana.

This paper aims to address initially the implications and consequences of the planned use of image reading in classrooms of Art in the early years of elementary school. Flores do abismo, imagens do inconsciente [2012]

Presented in a rehearsal form, this article aims to bring out a historical discussion about the relationship between art-madness in Brazil. Result of a research that had as object the critical fortune written on the first exhibit of the Museum of Images of the Unconscious, this work aims to connect two little closer fields: art criticism and mental health, especially since Mário Pedrosa’s work. It was possible to ascertain, throughout the investigation, that there was a position taken by art critics at that time (the 1940s), that position is basically divided into two, briefly explored here: those who encouraged the exhibits, and thereby attested the artistic value of the work produced in the studio of Pedro II Psychiatric Center (where it was founded the Museum); and those who decried the artistic character of "unconscious images", as would be known the works that were produced there. Thus, we can say that, indeed, the virgin art – so entitled by Pedrosa – functioned as a kind of sting to the renewal of our health practices, but mainly influenced the completion of a cycle of modernism in our country.

Um rio de imagens

O presente artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre a imagem dos rios ao longo da história da arte, a partir da pesquisa realizada por mim para a tese de doutorado “Poéticas Líquidas: a água na arte contemporânea“. Os rios são estudados tanto a partir de suas representações pictóricas de interesse histórico, como também enquanto suporte para a realização de obras de arte contemporânea. São identificadas conotações simbólicas e espirituais dos rios, como metáfora para o transcorrer da vida e para as transformações, assim como também suas questões mais terrenas, ligadas à ecologia e à sua relação com as cidades. Como reflexão final, apresento alguns trabalhos plásticos realizados por mim ao longo dos anos, que discutem a presença dos rios na vida contemporânea, a partir de proposições estéticas que refletem as conflituosas relações entre o homem e a natureza na atualidade.

Uma abordagem baseada em filtragem colaborativa integrada a mapas de saliência para a recomendação de imagens

Nowadays, the amount of customers using sites for shopping is greatly increasing, mainly due to the easiness and rapidity of this way of consumption. The sites, differently from physical stores, can make anything available to customers. In this context, Recommender Systems (RS) have become indispensable to help consumers to find products that may possibly pleasant or be useful to them. These systems often use techniques of Collaborating Filtering (CF), whose main underlying idea is that products are recommended to a given user based on purchase information and evaluations of past, by a group of users similar to the user who is requesting recommendation. One of the main challenges faced by such a technique is the need of the user to provide some information about her preferences on products in order to get further recommendations from the system. When there are items that do not have ratings or that possess quite few ratings available, the recommender system performs poorly. This problem is known as new item cold-start. In this paper, we propose to investigate in what extent information on visual attention can help to produce more accurate recommendation models. We present a new CF strategy, called IKB-MS, that uses visual attention to characterize images and alleviate the new item cold-start problem. In order to validate this strategy, we created a clothing image database and we use three algorithms well known for the extraction of visual attention these images. An extensive set of experiments shows that our approach is efficient and outperforms state-of-the-art CF RS.

Sankofa : a circulação dos provérbios africanos : oralidade, escrita, imagens e imaginários
