In Part I, we formulate and examine some systems that have arisen in the study of the constructible hierarchy; we find numerous transitive models for them, among which are supertransitive models containing all ordinals that show that Devlin's system BS lies strictly between Gandy's systems PZ and BST'; and we use our models to show that BS fails to handle even the simplest rudimentary functions, and is thus inadequate for the use intended for it in Devlin's treatise. In Part II we propose and study an enhancement of the underlying logic of these systems, build further models to show where the previous hierarchy of systems is preserved by our enhancement; and consider three systems that might serve for Devlin's purposes: one the enhancement of a version of BS, one a formulation of Gandy-Jensen set theory, and the third a subsystem common to those two. In Part III we give new proofs of results of Boffa by constructing three models in which, respectively, TCo, AxPair and AxSing fail; we give some sufficient conditions for a set not to belong to the rudimentary closure of another set, and thus answer a question of McAloon; and we comment on Gandy's numerals and correct and sharpen other of his observations.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains resistant to streptomycin (SM), isoniazid (INH), and/or rifampin (RIF) as determined by the conventional Löwenstein-Jensen proportion method (LJPM) were compared with the E test, a minimum inhibitory concentration susceptibility method. Discrepant isolates were further evaluated by BACTEC and by DNA sequence analyses for mutations in genes most often associated with resistance to these drugs (rpsL, katG, inhA, and rpoB). Preliminary discordant E test results were seen in 75% of isolates resistant to SM and in 11% to INH. Discordance improved for these two drugs (63%) for SM and none for INH when isolates were re-tested but worsened for RIF (30%). Despite good agreement between phenotypic results and sequencing analyses, wild type profiles were detected on resistant strains mainly for SM and INH. It should be aware that susceptible isolates according to molecular methods might contain other mechanisms of resistance. Although reproducibility of the LJPM susceptibility method has been established, variable E test results for some M. tuberculosis isolates poses questions regarding its reproducibility particularly the impact of E test performance which may vary among laboratories despite adherence to recommended protocols. Further studies must be done to enlarge the evaluated samples and looked possible mutations outside of the hot spot sequenced gene among discrepant strains.

-- The Project for a Scientific Psychology (1895) as well as Chapter VII of Freud's Interpretation of Dreams (1900) offer a psychological model - underlying the entire psychoanalysis developed hereafter - which is strikingly similar to Aristotelian conceptions of the psyche in On the Soul and Little Physical Treatises. One explanation may be that the only lectures in psychology and philosophy that Freud attended at university, alongside lectures in medicine, were given by the theologist, psychologist, and philosopher Franz Brentano, who had a deep knowledge of Aristotle. Because of young Freud's correspondence with his high school friend Eduard Silberstein at the beginning of his studies, the influence of Brentano's teachings on Freud is now better known. Indeed, much of the Aristotelian psychological paradigm - rooted in biology - seems to echo in Freud's writings. Thus, the production of various sorts of representations within the psychic apparatus by means of the investment in memory traces in Freud's model evokes the phantâsmata generated in the soul by the action of phantasîa on the residual movements of the sensory perception in Aristotle's psychology. From there, this comparison will hinge as much on the operation of memory as on the explanation of the phenomena of dreams and hallucinations, as on the understanding of desire in its ability to set the animated living being (i.e. a being with a soul) in motion.
