Deals with some common problems in structural analysis when calculating the experimental semi-variogram and fitting a semi-variogram model. Geochemical data were used and the following cases were studied: regular versus irregular sampling grade, presence of 'outliers' values, skew distributions due to a high variability of the data and estimation using a kriging procedure. -from English summary

The densitometrical interpretation is a technical resource that removes both the subjectivity of conventional interpretation and the high operational cost of automatic interpretation. Meanwhile, the densitometric lecture presents variability and this work has the objective of examinating, through Chi-square test, if there exists significative differences of cone overture of the densitometer as to the filter used. The results were the following: the variation that happened in this densitometric lecture, when different cone overture and filter were used, have not invalidated the values that were obtained; the extreme values variations have to be used with attention, so will not be overstep of values among the different elements of soil covering have to be used discerniment to classify this values; the study was in consonance with other authors. -from English summary

The results indicated potassium as the most important for the discrimination between groups of samples, followed by magnesium, calcium and sodium. As the area has been under intense sugar cane industrialisation, the soil and the river waters of the region receive a high content of vinasse rich in potassium. -from English summary

This piece of work focuses the application of a computational method to obtain clinographic maps, by using C.K. Wentworth's method. The developed program to construct the clinographic maps is completely structured in Basic Language and it uses Line PC Micro-Computers. As an exercise for practical application, in this study we defined a certain region, where the topographic base map is that of Brazil, 1:250 000 scale, Marilia contour map, having as the study area the region near the city of Assis (SP). -English summary

This work presents the design and procedure of a DC-to-AC converter using a ZVS Commutation Cell developed by Barbi and Martins (1991) and applied to the family of DC-to-DC PWM converters. Firstly, we show the cell applied to buck converter. The stages of operation and the main current and voltage equations of the resonant devices are presented. Next, we adapt the converter to the regenerative operation mode. Hence, the full bridge converter at low frequency operation is conected on the DC-to-DC stage (at high frequency) output ends (Seixas, 1993). Commutation of zero voltage for all switches, PWM at constant frequency and neither overvoltage nor additional current stress are observed by digital simulation. The design example and experimental results obtained by prototype rated at 275 V, 1 kW and 40 kHz are also presented.

The influence of biogenic opal sediment input (mainly diatom skeletons) on the fluorine budget of marine sediments will be shown for 24 sampling stations of the antarctic regions of Bransfield Strait, Powell Basin, South Orkney Plateau and northwestern Weddell Sea. 4 bulk samples, one from each sedimentation area, contain 9 to 28 wt.-% of biogenic opal , the clay fraction of the 24 samples investigated have 2 to 82 wt.-%. The fluorine concentration in the amorphous biogenic component is 15 ppm. 300 to 800 ppm of fluorine were measured in the clay fractions, 330 to 920 ppm in their lithogenic components. Biogenic opal causes a decrease in fluorine concentration of the sediment by a considerable amount: 6 to 56 % relative to the clay fraction, due to the proportions involved. Biogenic opal is therefore taken into account as a 'diluting' factor for the fluorine budget in marine sediments.
