O presente trabalho teve como objetivo principal analisar as mudanças nas formas de venda e consumo do açaí na Região Metropolitana de Belém (RMB), e sua relação com a identidade de lugar de seus consumidores. O interesse pelo tema teve origem na observação da ocorrência da globalização do açaí, alimento base da dieta das populações amazônicas de origem ribeirinha que hoje é largamente consumido fora da Região Amazônica, em padrões muito diferentes daqueles nela estabelecidos. A escolha da RMB como lócus de pesquisa se justifica pelo fato de que nela se concentra alto consumo de açaí, nos padrões tradicionais e nos modernos, suscitando questionamentos sobre os efeitos dessa convivência na vida cotidiana dos que a habitam. Teoricamente, a pesquisa articula a definição de identidade de lugar de Abe-Lima (2012) com as elaborações de Henri Lefèbvre (1991) sobre a vida cotidiana no mundo moderno e com teoria dos circuitos econômicos de Milton Santos (2008). Metodologicamente, foi adotada uma estratégia multimétodos, envolvendo pesquisa documental, um painel de especialistas com 5 entidades de acompanhamento da produção de açaí, observações pautadas na etnografia urbana em 9 locais de venda e entrevistas semiabertas com 40 consumidores de açaí, maiores de 18 anos e residentes na RMB, recrutados por meio de cadeia tipo bola de neve. Além dos roteiros de entrevistas, foram utilizados como estratégias de coleta de dados diários de campo e fotografias. O conjunto dos dados foi submetido à técnica da análise de conteúdo temática, com eventual apoio do software QDA Miner Lite. Os resultados situaram a globalização do açaí em meados da década de 1990, momento de intensificação dos efeitos da metropolização em Belém, como o aumento populacional, a segregação espacial e a imposição de um ritmo de vida mais acelerado. As análises apontaram que tal processo significou a entrada do açaí no circuito superior da economia, com um processo produtivo mais organizado, utilizando mais tecnologia e envolvendo maiores volumes financeiros, atingindo escala industrial. No entanto, prevalece na RMB o processamento artesanal, em estruturas de pequeno porte, construídas em alvenaria, de organização simples e controle financeiro ausente. O consumo público aumentou, com grande número de locais especializados na oferta de açaí, em caráter de entretenimento, sendo incipiente a adesão a novos acompanhamentos, como granola e aveia. A preferência pelos acompanhamentos tradicionais, como farinha d’água ou de tapioca, açúcar e peixe, permanece, assim como pelo consumo privado, no âmbito da casa, que tem sido favorecido pela disponibilidade do serviço de entrega, recurso recente. A frequência geral de consumo diminuiu, em função do aumento de preço e de mudanças na rotina, como aumento da distância entre local de trabalho e residência. A pesquisa permitiu reafirmar a importância do açaí na vida cotidiana dos belenenses que o consomem, para os quais ele funciona como elemento de distintividade, continuidade, autoestima e autoeficácia, em estreita relação com aspectos próprios da metrópole. Por esse motivo, torna-se preocupante que o acesso a açaí de qualidade, nos padrões desejados pelos indivíduos, esteja tornando-SE privilégio inacessível aos consumidores de menor poder aquisitivo. Assim, espera-se que o conjunto de dados contribua para a compreensão da importância de políticas públicas voltadas ao açaí que considerem melhor as demandas daqueles que o consomem.

The physical activity of the Swiss population differs considerably depending on the linguistic region. German speakers are more often physically active than people living in the French or Italian-speaking part of Switzerland (Stamm & Lamprecht, 2011). This study analyses how socio-cultural factors correlate with sports participation for adolescents and young adults. In order to analyse this research question, Bourdieu’s concept of habitus (1984) has been adapted and used as a theoretical background. This sport-related concept of habitus considers culturally determined values, the attribution of meaning and patterns of action such as the understanding of sports, the importance of sports, body, health or leisure. On this basis, the sport-related habitus and the practical relevance of sports participation has been empirically reconstructed for adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 25 through a qualitative study including guideline-based interviews with German (n=6) and French (n=4) speaking adolescents and young adults, as well as a quantitative survey in a German (n=106) and a French (n=99) speaking commune of Switzerland. Initial findings reveal that young German speakers associate sports with self-discipline (χ²(1, N=205)= 8.223, p<.005, V=.200) and fitness (χ²(1, N=205)= 21.989, p<.005, V=.328) whereas young French speakers are more likely to relate health (χ²(1, N=205)= 9.455, p<.005, V=.215), effort and perspiration (χ²(1, N=205)= 18.835, p<.005, V=.303) to sports. Similarly, the understanding of body and health as well as the attitude towards leisure differs between the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland. This study illustrates that the concept of sports habitus is culturally shaped and therefore may be fruitful in further analyses. Bourdieu, P. (1984). Distinction. Drawing on the reception of Noh drama by Ezra Pound and William Butler Yeats, the article analyses both the literary and cultural ‘translations’ of this form of Japanese theatre in their works, focusing on Yeats’s play At the Hawk’s Well (1917). I conceptualize ‘cultural translation’ as the staging of relations that mark a residual cultural difference. Referred to as ‘foreignizing’ in translation theory, this method enables what Erika Fischer-Lichte has termed a ‘liminal experience’ for the audience –– an effect Yeats intended for the performance of his play. It evokes situations in which opposites collapse and new ways of acting or new combinations of symbols can be tried out. Yeats’s play will be used to sketch how an analysis of relations could serve as a general model for the study of cultural transfer as cultural translation in general. Sport participation has often been the topic in sports science and it could be shown that in Europe the population of northern and western countries are more often physically active than southern and eastern countries (European Commission, 2014). In Switzerland the physical activity of the Swiss population also differs between the linguistic regions. The German speaking population is more often physically active than the French or Italian speaking part (Stamm & Lamprecht, 2008). To explain the differences in sport participation structural and cultural factors have been discussed. Because within a country homogenous structural conditions can be assumed, the aim of this study is to analyse how socio-cultural factors correlate with sport participation of adolescents and young adults. In order to analyse this research question, Bourdieu’s concept of habitus (1984) has been used as theoretical background. This sport-related concept of habitus considers cultural determined values, the attribution of meaning and patterns of action which is socially determined and have an influence on individual actions and therefore also on the sport practise. On this basis, a qualitative study including guideline-based interviews with German (n=5) and French (n=3) speaking adolescents and young adults at the age of 16 to 24 (M=21.4) were held in two different linguistic regions of Switzerland. To analyse the interviews the documentary method was applied (Bohnsack, 2010). Initial findings reveal that there are different sport related values, attributions of meanings and patterns of action also called framework of orientations concerning topics like body, health and leisure which correlate with the habitual sports practise in the two different linguistic regions. This study illustrates that the habitus is culturally shaped and that it could help to understand the meaning of socio-cultural factors for sport participation.

This article reviews the evolution of the concept of culture industries, when neither industry nor culture themselves are today what they were at the time when the term was coined. It attempts to explain the dilution of the term into more nebulous terms (“leisure industries,” “entertainment industries” or “creative industries”) and suggests new challenges for the research on culture industries. What is at stake is no longer an application of a Fordist production to culture, a one-directional mass communication and a mediation by experts, but rather: (1) a cultural experience which is no longer clearly separated from other activities (leisure in general, consumption and even work); (2) the communicative explosion of all industrial production in a media environment, where industrialized symbolic products are mixed with culturalized industrial products; and (3) the empowerment of the recipient, which on one hand ignores the traditional experts and on the other leads to post-productive (recreational and even creative) cultural practices.

Discourse is a giant field of research and gender related rights are still a disputed area of thinking. Thus, when Arab transnational satellite televisions produce dialogues, images, stories and narratives about the disputed “universal” gender rights in the Middle East, the big questions remain how and why. According to De Beauvoir (1949), one becomes woman and to Butler (1990) one is not born a gender at all but is “done” and “undone” to become one via discourse. Islamic feminism speaks of a cultural/religious specificity in defending women rights and even gender diversity based on new Quranic interpretations. The gender, “Al-Naw’u”, remains synonym to sex “Al Jins” as gender and queer theories never developed in Arabic in tandem with the European institutions or the theories of the19th century– especially those ideas emerging from studies of the mental asylum. This research tries to understand gender related “rights” and “wrongs” as manifest in the discursive institutions owned by media mogul Prince Al Waleed Ben Talal Al Saud. The trouble of such a study is lexical, ideological and institutional at the same time. Since we lack a critique of the discourses and narratives addressed in the pan-Arab satellite channels, in general it is difficult to understand their significance and influence in everyday life practices. What language is used to speak of gender rights or wrongs? Which ideology is favoured in this practice of legitimisation and/or policing? Using case studies, CDA of social and religious talk shows, narrative analysis of Arabic cinemas, this research adapted triangulation to show the complexity of conversing and narrating gender related content at the micro and macro levels within an institution of power. Using semi-structured interviews from fieldwork in Egypt (2009) and Lebanon (2011), archive research and online ethnography, the research exposes the power structure under which gender discourses evolve. It emerges that gender content is abundant on the Pan Arab satellite space, “manufactured” on talk shows and plotted tactfully in the cinematic “creative-act”. The result is a complex discourse of gender content that scratches the surface calling for interpretation. So how and why do gender rights and wrongs find place on Prince Al Waleed’s Media Empire?

Considering that urban interventions, planned and executed recently at Natal, RN, should put Ribeira - one of the town centers - in the new limits of the expanded center of the city, this work examines the use of this new accessibility for the benefit of the development of an infrastructure to support a type of tourism currently seen as an alternative to diversification into areas dominated by entertainment tourism (the case of Natal). A local with city's traditional cultural facilities and holder of a set built that is a synthesis of the images of the neighborhood, it fears that this increase in the potential for movement and flows of use stimulate speculation and deployment of a bulk type of activity incompatible with the preservation the architectural heritage. Important economy for the city, tourism has been showing a factor propellant processing urban related changes in accessibility. It is argued that cultural tourism, often used in plans and projects of revitalization across the country, may be factor for sustainable development and conserve the assets, and contributes to the process of revitalization of the historic cultural center as Ribeira. Intended to illustrate the need to consider other information that might help in the revitalization of the neighborhood, this research presents the offer cultural tourism of Ribeira and identifies and maps certain physical attributes that, combined with functional attributes, can stimulate or inhibit the diversity and vitality in the region
