Visible photoluminescence (PL) was observed for the first time at room temperature in structurally disordered calcium strontium tungstate powder, Ca0.60Sr0.40WO4 (CSW), obtained by the polymeric precursor method. The PL behavior of CSW powders has been analyzed as a function of the disorder rate, based on experimental and theoretical studies. Quantum mechanical theory based on density functional theory at the B3LYP level has been employed to study the electronic structure of two periodic models representing both crystalline and disordered powders. Their electronic structures have been analyzed in terms of density of states, band dispersion and charge densities. The calculations indicate a break in symmetry when passing from crystalline to disordered models, creating localized electronic levels above the valence band. Moreover, a negative charge transfer process takes place from the [WO3] cluster to the [WO4] cluster. The polarization induced by the break in symmetry and the existence of localized levels favors the creation of trapped holes and electrons, originating the PL phenomenon. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. It is shown that the two-loop Kac-Moody algebra is equivalent to a two-variable-loop algebra and a decoupled β-γ system. Similarly WZNW and CSW models having as algebraic structure the Kac-Moody algebra are equivalent to an infinity of versions of the corresponding ordinary models and decoupled abelian fields.

The topic of occupational health and safety (OHS) has been investigated for many years and continues to be a concept often researched today. Generally speaking OHS research has been centered around food safety, construction safety, transportation safety, fire safety, drug and alcohol testing, health and medical management, and industrial hygiene to name a few. However, the concept of OHS concerning female commercial sex workers (FCSWs) has rarely been investigated, often neglected, seldom discussed and is lacking in sound research. Although regarded as the "oldest profession", commercial sex work (CSW) has consistently been ignored, disregarded and under-researched due to the illegality and stigmatization of prostitution. This paper reviews occupational safety and health issues faced by FCSWs in Tema and Accra, Ghana, through in-depth interviews, visits to women's homes, field work, informal conversations and participant observations with FCSWs over a period of two months. Facets of OHS that emerged among FCSWs included sexually transmissible infections, risks associated with harassment and violence from police and clients, alcohol and drug use, irregular hospital visits and/or lack of hospital visits, immigration issues, legal and policing risks. We argue that CSW be viewed as an occupation in great need of interventions to reduce workplace risks and improve the health and safety of FCSWs^

A quantitative analysis was carried out of planktonic diatoms (biogenic opal) and calcareous nannofossils (biogenic calcite) in late Quaternary sediments (MIS 1-6) from four cores along a N-S transect east of New Zealand from 39°50'S to 50°04'S across the E-W-trending submarine ridge, the Chatham Rise. This was done to trace movements of oceanic fronts and to improve calcareous nannofossil stratigraphy for the last 130 000 yr in the SW Pacific. Sites ODP 1123 and Q 858 are below present day subtropical surface waters north of Chatham Rise. Site DSDP 594 is below present-day mixed temperate-subantarctic surface water south of the rise, and site ODP 1120 is below subantarctic surface water. The more diverse and opportunistic planktonic diatoms provided marker species for subtropical surface waters (Alveus marina, Fragilariopsis doliolus, Rhizosolenia bergonii and Azpeitia nodulifer) and others for subantarctic surface waters (Nitzschia kerguelensis, Thalassiosira lentiginosa). Application of these tracers permits the following conclusions: (1) subtropical conditions persisted north of Chatham Rise throughout the past 130 000 yr, in spite of the cooling of surface waters during colder periods; (2) during warm times (MIS 5 and MIS 3, and in MIS 1), the sporadic occurrence of subtropical species south of Chatham Rise indicates occasional admixture of subtropical surface waters that far south; (3) subantarctic waters extended to the southern slopes of the Chatham Rise during MIS 5b, late MIS 5a to early MIS 4, during the warmer time intervals in early MIS 3, and during latest MIS 3 to early MIS 2; (4) subantarctic frontal conditions existed over southern Chatham Rise during early MIS 4 and late MIS 3 to early MIS 2; and (5) it is probable that during cooler times, MIS 6, MIS 5b, and in MIS 2, intensified particle transport from the Bounty Trough to the northern flank of Chatham Rise occurred by intensified boundary currents. The larger abundance fluctuations in both microfossil groups at the sites south of Chatham Rise than north of Chatham Rise reflect northward shifts of the Circumpolar Subantarctic Water (CSW) and a contemporaneous disappearance of Australasian Subantarctic Water (ASW), implying an elevated temperature gradient between the surface water masses north and south of the Chatham Rise at the times of such northward shifts of CSW. Calcareous nannofossils are less diverse than diatoms, and are less specialised. Some calcareous nannofossil species show abundance shifts at the same time at different latitudes. Two of these abundance shifts can be used for correlation between subtropical and subantarctic sediments in the SW Pacific: (1) reversal in the relative abundance of Calcidiscus leptoporus and Coccolithus pelagicus associated with the MIS 2/1 boundary; and (2) drop in abundance of Gephyrocapsa muellerae or medium-sized Gephyrocapsa at the MIS 4/3 boundary. An additional abundance shift seems to be restricted to subtropical to mixed temperate-subtropical-subantarctic surface waters: (3) increase in abundance of G. muellerae or medium-sized Gephyrocapsa at the beginning of MIS 2 below the Okareka tephra.

We discuss experiences gained by porting a Software Validation Facility (SVF) and a satellite Central Software (CSW) to a platform with support for Time and Space Partitioning (TSP). The SVF and CSW are part of the EagleEye Reference mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). As a reference mission, EagleEye is a perfect candidate to evaluate practical aspects of developing satellite CSW for and on TSP platforms. The specific TSP platform we used consists of a simulate D LEON3 CPU controlled by the XtratuM separation micro-kernel. On top of this, we run five separate partitions. Each partition ru n s its own real-time operating system or Ada run-time kernel, which in turn are running the application software of the CSW. We describe issues related to partitioning; inter-partition communication; scheduling; I/O; and fault-detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR)

The main advantage of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is that it does not require any priori weights for inputs and outputs and allows individual DMUs to evaluate their efficiencies with the input and output weights that are only most favorable weights for calculating their efficiency. It can be argued that if DMUs are experiencing similar circumstances, then the pricing of inputs and outputs should apply uniformly across all DMUs. That is using of different weights for DMUs makes their efficiencies unable to be compared and not possible to rank them on the same basis. This is a significant drawback of DEA; however literature observed many solutions including the use of common set of weights (CSW). Besides, the conventional DEA methods require accurate measurement of both the inputs and outputs; however, crisp input and output data may not relevant be available in real world applications. This paper develops a new model for the calculation of CSW in fuzzy environments using fuzzy DEA. Further, a numerical example is used to show the validity and efficacy of the proposed model and to compare the results with previous models available in the literature.

At national and European levels, in various projects, data products are developed to provide end-users and stakeholders with homogeneously qualified observation compilation or analysis. Ifremer has developed a spatial data infrastructure for marine environment, called Sextant, in order to manage, share and retrieve these products for its partners and the general public. Thanks to the OGC and ISO standard and INSPIRE compliance, the infrastructure provides a unique framework to federate homogeneous descriptions and access to marine data products processed in various contexts, at national level or European level for DG research (SeaDataNet), DG Mare (EMODNET) and DG Growth (Copernicus MEMS). The discovery service of Sextant is based on the metadata catalogue. The data description is normalized according to ISO 191XX series standards and Inspire recommendations. Access to the catalogue is provided by the standard OGC service, Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW 2.0.2). Data visualization and data downloading are available through standard OGC services, Web Map Services (WMS) and Web Feature Services (WFS). Several OGC services are provided within Sextant, according to marine themes, regions and projects. Depending on the file format, WMTS services are used for large images, such as hyperspectral images, or NcWMS services for gridded data, such as climatology models. New functions are developped to improve the visualization, analyse and access to data, eg : data filtering, online spatial processing with WPS services and acces to sensor data with SOS services.
