Standard form contracts are typically developed through a negotiated consensus, unless they are proffered by one specific interest group. Previously published plans of work and other descriptions of the processes in construction projects tend to focus on operational issues, or they tend to be prepared from the point of view of one or other of the dominant interest groups. Legal practice in the UK permits those who draft contracts to define their terms as they choose. There are no definitive rulings from the courts that give an indication as to the detailed responsibilities of project participants. The science of terminology offers useful guidance for discovering and describing terms and their meanings in their practical context, but has never been used for defining terms for responsibilities of participants in the construction project management process. Organizational analysis enables the management task to be deconstructed into its elemental parts in order that effective organizational structures can be developed. Organizational mapping offers a useful technique for reducing text-based descriptions of project management roles and responsibilities to a comparable basis. Research was carried out by means of a desk study, detailed analysis of nine plans of work and focus groups representing all aspects of the construction industry. No published plan of work offers definitive guidance. There is an enormous amount of variety in the way that terms are used for identifying responsibilities of project participants. A catalogue of concepts and terms (a “Terminology”) has been compiled and indexed to enable those who draft contracts to choose the most appropriate titles for project participants. The purpose of this terminology is to enable the selection and justification of appropriate terms in order to help define roles. The terminology brings an unprecedented clarity to the description of roles and responsibilities in construction projects and, as such, will be helpful for anyone seeking to assemble a team and specify roles for project participants.

In developing techniques for monitoring the costs associated with different procurement routes, the central task is disentangling the various project costs incurred by organizations taking part in construction projects. While all firms are familiar with the need to analyse their own costs, it is unusual to apply the same kind of analysis to projects. The purpose of this research is to examine the claims that new ways of working such as strategic alliancing and partnering bring positive business benefits. This requires that costs associated with marketing, estimating, pricing, negotiation of terms, monitoring of performance and enforcement of contract are collected for a cross-section of projects under differing arrangements, and from those in the supply chain from clients to consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers. Collaboration with industrial partners forms the basis for developing a research instrument, based on time sheets, which will be relevant for all those taking part in the work. The signs are that costs associated with tendering are highly variable, 1-15%, depending upon what precisely is taken into account. The research to date reveals that there are mechanisms for measuring the costs of transactions and these will generate useful data for subsequent analysis.

Il presente lavoro di tesi si inserisce nel contesto dei sistemi ITS e intende realizzare un insieme di protocolli in ambito VANET relativamente semplici ma efficaci, in grado di rilevare la presenza di veicoli in avvicinamento a un impianto semaforico e di raccogliere quelle informazioni di stato che consentano all’infrastruttura stradale di ottenere una stima il più possibile veritiera delle attuali condizioni del traffico in ingresso per ciascuna delle direzioni previste in tale punto. Si prevede di raccogliere i veicoli in gruppi durante il loro avvicinamento al centro di un incrocio. Ogni gruppo sarà costituito esclusivamente da quelle vetture che stanno percorrendo uno stesso tratto stradale e promuoverà l’intercomunicazione tra i suoi diversi membri al fine di raccogliere e integrare i dati sulla composizione del traffico locale. Il sistema realizzato cercherà di trasmettere alle singole unità semaforiche un flusso di dati sintetico ma costante contenente le statistiche sull’ambiente circostante, in modo da consentire loro di applicare politiche dinamiche e intelligenti di controllo della viabilità. L’architettura realizzata viene eseguita all’interno di un ambiente urbano simulato nel quale la mobilità dei nodi di rete corrisponde a rilevazioni reali effettuate su alcune porzioni della città di Bologna. Le performance e le caratteristiche del sistema complessivo vengono analizzate e commentate sulla base dei diversi test condotti.

L’obiettivo dell’elaborato è mostrare come, partendo da una robusta base teorica nelle discipline del Project Management e del Business Process Reengineering, sia possibile ridefinire un sistema di gestione dei progetti (a livello singolo e di aggregato) e sviluppare, presso il personale coinvolto, le competenze necessarie a sostenere autonomamente ed a migliorare il sistema così creato. La reingegnerizzazione della progettazione nell’azienda in esame si è sviluppata nell’arco di un quadriennio: nel 2010 è stata concretizzata la prima release dei processi di gestione del progetto singolo e dell’aggregato, nel 2011 è maturata la seconda release, mentre nel biennio 2012-2013 si sono “congelati” i risultati ottenuti e si è sviluppata l’autonomia dei Project Manager interni e del Project Management Office. Dall’analisi è emersa l’importanza di un solido approccio metodologico negli interventi di innovazione organizzativa.

Vengono individuate le criticità e tramite un elenco di metodi e strumenti di gestione delle risorse umane si vuole indirizzare il project manager ad attivare quelli più inerenti alla risoluzione dei problemi che generalmente si presentano durante l'esecuzione di un progetto.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic disease. Today we are able to propose an adapted and efficient management to the patients with this rare disorder (and their families) thanks to a strong collaboration of clinicians and researchers. Recent knowledge regarding the genetics of OI permits an accurate diagnosis of the specific type of OI and its own molecular mechanism, a genetic counseling for family planning and prenatal diagnosis, and in addition more targeted therapeutic options. A specific support with re-education for patients with OI is necessary and efficient. Con la creciente popularidad de las soluciones de IT como factor clave para aumentar la competitividad y la creación de valor para las empresas, la necesidad de invertir en proyectos de IT se incrementa considerablemente. La limitación de los recursos como un obstáculo para invertir ha obligado a las empresas a buscar metodologías para seleccionar y priorizar proyectos, asegurándose de que las decisiones que se toman son aquellas que van alineadas con las estrategias corporativas para asegurar la creación de valor y la maximización de los beneficios. Esta tesis proporciona los fundamentos para la implementación del Portafolio de dirección de Proyectos de IT (IT PPM) como una metodología eficaz para la gestión de proyectos basados en IT, y una herramienta para proporcionar criterios claros para los directores ejecutivos para la toma de decisiones. El documento proporciona la información acerca de cómo implementar el IT PPM en siete pasos, el análisis de los procesos y las funciones necesarias para su ejecución exitosa. Además, proporciona diferentes métodos y criterios para la selección y priorización de proyectos. Después de la parte teórica donde se describe el IT PPM, la tesis aporta un análisis del estudio de caso de una empresa farmacéutica. La empresa ya cuenta con un departamento de gestión de proyectos, pero se encontró la necesidad de implementar el IT PPM debido a su amplia cobertura de procesos End-to-End en Proyectos de IT, y la manera de asegurar la maximización de los beneficios. Con la investigación teórica y el análisis del estudio de caso, la tesis concluye con una definición práctica de un modelo aproximado IT PPM como una recomendación para su implementación en el Departamento de Gestión de Proyectos.

Communities are increasingly empowered with the ability and responsibility of working with national governments to make decisions about marine resources in decentralized co-management arrangements. This transition toward decentralized management represents a changing governance landscape. This paper explores the transition to decentralisation in marine resource management systems in three East African countries. The paper draws upon expert opinion and literature from both political science and linked social-ecological systems fields to guide exploration of five key governance transition concepts in each country: (1) drivers of change; (2) institutional arrangments; (3 institutional fit; (4) actor interactions; and (5) adaptive management. Key findings are that decentralized management in the region was largely donor-driven and only partly tranferred power to local stakeholders. However, increased accountability created a degree of democracy in regards to natural resource governance that was not previously present. Additionally, increased local-level adaptive management has emerged in most systems and, to date, this experimental management has helped to change resource user's views from metaphysical to more scientific cause-and-effect attribution of changes to resource conditions.
