This paper reports that the transmission of O6+ ions with energy of 150keV through capillaries in an uncoated Al2O3 membrane was measured, and agreements with previously reported results in general angular distribution of the transmitted ions and the transmission fractions as a function of the tilt angle well fitted to Gaussian-like functions were observed. Due to using an uncoated capillary membrane, our c is larger than that using a gold-coated one with a smaller value of E-p/q, which suggests a larger equilibrium charge Q(infinity) in our experiment. The observed special width variation with time and a larger width than that using a smaller E-p/q were qualitatively explained by using mean-field classical transport theory based on a classical-trajectory Monte Carlo simulation.

In this paper, a simple route for the preparation of Pt nanoparticles is described. PtCl62- and [tetrakis-(N-methylpyridyl)porphyrinato] cobalt (CoTMPyP) were assembled on a 4-aminobenzoic acid modified glassy carbon electrode through the layer-by-layer method. The three-dimensional Pt nanoparticle films are directly formed on an electrode surface by electrochemical reduction of PtCl62- sandwiched between CoTMPyP layers. Regular growth of the multilayer films is monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy verifies the constant composition of the multilayer films containing Pt nanoparticles. Atomic force microscopy proves that the as-prepared Pt nanoparticles are uniformily distributed with average particle diameters of 6-10 nm. The resulting multilayer films containing Pt nanoparticles on the modified electrode possess catalytic activity for the reduction of dissolved oxygen. Rotating disk electrode voltammetry and rotating ring-disk electrode voltammetry confirm that Pt nanoparticle containing films can catalyze an almost four-electron reduction of O-2 to water in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution.

The spatial distribution of some large tintinnid species (nominally>76 mu m) was investigated according to samples collected by vertical towing in cruises to the southern Yellow Sea in summer 2000-2002 and 2004. Eight species were identified: Codonellopsis mobilis, Leprotintinnus netritus, Tintinnopsis karajacensis, T. japonica, T. kiaochowensis, T. butschlii, T. radix, and Parafavella sp. With maximum abundance of 158.2 ind/L in June 2004, C mobilis was the dominant species, lasting from May to July 2004. Tintinnid communities were patchy and distributed mainly in shallow waters along the shore.

Consider the problem of scheduling sporadically-arriving tasks with implicit deadlines using Earliest-Deadline-First (EDF) on a single processor. The system may undergo changes in its operational modes and therefore the characteristics of the task set may change at run-time. We consider a well-established previously published mode-change protocol and we show that if every mode utilizes at most 50% of the processing capacity then all deadlines are met. We also show that there exists a task set that misses a deadline although the utilization exceeds 50% by just an arbitrarily small amount. Finally, we present, for a relevant special case, an exact schedulability test for EDF with mode change.
