Although some researchers have published friction and wear data of Plasma Nitride (PN) coatings, the tribological behavior of PN/PN Pairs in high vacuum environment has not been published so far In order to bridge this knowledge gap, tribological tests under dry conditions have been conducted on PN/PN Pairs for varying temperatures of 25, 200, 400 and 500 degrees C in high vacuum (1.6 x 10(-4) bar) environment. The PN coatings showed good wear resistance layer on the ring surface. The PN coatings were removed only from the pin surface for all the tests since it contacts at a point. The friction and wear were low at lower temperatures and it eliminated adhesion between the contact surfaces until the coating was completely removed from the pin surface. This paper focuses on understanding the seismic response of geosynthetic reinforced retaining walls through shaking table tests on models of modular block and rigid faced reinforced retaining walls. Reduced-scale models of retaining walls reinforced with geogrid layers were constructed in a laminar box mounted on a uniaxial shaking table and subjected to various levels of sinusoidal base shaking. Models were instrumented with ultrasonic displacement sensors, earth pressure sensors and accelerometers. Effects of backfill density, number of reinforcement layers and reinforcement type on the performance of rigid faced and modular block walls were studied through different series of model tests. Performances of the walls were assessed in terms of face deformations, crest settlement and acceleration amplification at different elevations and compared. Modular block walls performed better than the rigid faced walls for the same level of base shaking because of the additional support derived by stacking the blocks with an offset. Type and quantity of reinforcement has significant effect on the seismic performance of both the types of walls. Displacements are more sensitive to relative density of the backfill and decrease with increasing relative density, the effect being more pronounced in case of unreinforced walls compared to the reinforced ones. Acceleration amplifications are not affected by the wall facing and inclusion of reinforcement. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Este trabajo se realizó en dos investigativas La primera estuvo orientada en determinar si el tamaño de la semilla de sorgo T-43, tenía influencia en la viabilidad, lo cual se comprobó a nivel de campo y laboratorio, donde los porcentajes diferencias en ambos porcentajes. Cabe hacer mención que los datos obtenidos no son concluyentes, por carecer de repeticiones suficientes, pero si presentan tendencias en favor de la semilla clasificada con tamiz 10, el cual mostró los mayores porcentajes de germinación: de ello podemos deducir que la semilla para uso en la siembra se debe clasificar por tamaño. La segunda fase consisto en cosechar en tres épocas diferentes (tres diferentes humedades de semilla), los que se secaron al sol a 13 porciento de humedad, almacenándose en dos ambientes diferentes (cuarto frió, ambiente natural), los resultados no fueron concluyentes, ya que no se obtuvieron diferencias significativas en lo que se refiere a los ambientes de almacenamiento y los momentos de recolecta; por lo que la pérdida de viabilidad observada se atribuyen a otros factores no controlados en el curso de este trabajo. Por otra parte, la semilla se sorgo T-43, muestra su más alto porcentaje de germinación 90,80,y 85 a los 100 días , con rangos de temperatura y humedad relativa de 25-27ªC y 60-65 por ciento respectivamente, esto para los momentos de recolecta 27.70 y 19.37% de humedad.

Near threshold, mixed mode (I and II), fatigue crack growth occurs mainly by two mechanisms, coplanar (or shear) mode and branch (or tensile) mode. For a constant ratio of ΔKIKII the shear mode growth shows a self-arrest character and it would only start again when ΔKI and ΔKII are increased. Both shear crack growth and the early stages of tensile crack growth, are of a crystallographic nature; the fatigue crack proceeds along slip planes or grain boundaries. The appearance of the fracture surfaces suggest that the mechanism of crack extension is by developing slip band microcracks which join up to form a macrocrack. This process is thought to be assisted by the nature of the plastic deformation within the reversed plastic zone where high back stresses are set up by dislocation pile-ups against grain boundaries. The interaction of the crack tip stress field with that of the dislocation pile-ups leads to the formation of slip band microcracks and subsequent crack extension. The change from shear mode to tensile mode growth probably occurs when the maximum tensile stress and the microcrack density in the maximum tensile plane direction attain critical values.

Conclusão das votações na Comissão de Sistematização. Na discussão sobre Anisitia, foram rejeitadas as propostas que previam o pagamento de atrasados aos anistiados. Uma delas foi a emenda do Deputado Brandão Monteiro (PDT-RJ), que estendia os benefícios da Anistia aos membros da Marinha e Aeronáutica. Aprovada emenda do Deputado José Maria Eymael (PDC-SP) estabelecendo que a lei ordinária irá criar uma compesação financeira para os pilotos da Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB) cassados depois de março de 1964. Aprovado destaque do Deputado José Costa (PMDB-AL), que possibilita às vítimas cassadas após 1964, recorrerem à justiça para terem seus direitos revistos. A Anistia foi também estendida aos trabalhadores do setor privado com a emenda do Deputado João Paulo Vasconcellos (PT-MG). Aprovada a emenda de Nelson Carneiro (PMDB-RJ), que regula a aplicação do parlamentarismo nos Estados. A Deputada Raquel Cândido (PFL-RO) tem a sua emenda aprovada, que cria o Código de Defesa do Consumidor. A duração do mandato do Presidente José Sarney gera polêmica entre os constituintes. Opinam os Deputados: Elizer Moreira (PFL-MA), João Carlos Barcelar (PMDB-BA) e João Hermann Neto (PMDB-SP).

For the first time in its history, the International Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation migrated to a site outside of the United States. Thus the Eighteenth edition was hosted by the Mazatlán Research Unit of the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología of the Mexican National Autonomous University (UNAM) in Mazatlán, Sinaloa (Mexico) where it was held from 3-7, March, 1998. Above all, our symposium is prominent for its dynamism and enthusiasm in bringing together specialists from the world´s sea turtle populations. In an effort to extend this philosophy, and fully aware of how fast the interest in sea turtles has grown, the organizers paid special attention to bring together as many people as possible. With the tremendous efforts of the Travel Committee and coupled with a special interest by the Latin American region´s devotees, we managed to get 653 participants from 43 countries. The number of presentations increased significantly too, reaching a total of 265 papers, ranging from cutting-edge scientific reports based on highly sophisticated methods, to the experiences and successes of community-based and environmental education programs. A priority given by this symposium was the support and encouragement for the construction of "bridges" across cultural and discipline barriers. We found success in achieving a multinational dialogue among interest groups- scientists, resource managers, decision makers, ngo's, private industry. There was a broad representation of the broad interests that stretch across these sectors, yet everyone was able to listen and offer their own best contribution towards the central theme of the Symposium: the conservation of sea turtles and the diversity of marine and coastal environments in which they develop through their complicated and protracted life cycle. Our multidisciplinary approach is highly important at the present, finding ourselves at a cross roads of significant initiatives in the international arena of environmental law, where the conservation of sea turtles has a key role to play. Many, many people worked hard over the previous 12 months, to make the symposium a success.
