Oxazepam (4a) has been used as overall starting material in the synthesis of novel 2-substituted 1,4-benzodiazepines. By reacting Oxazepam 4a with commercially available hydrazines, hydrazides, semicarbazide, aminoguanidine and N,N-dimethylamino aniline in ethanol under acetic conditions, a series of diazenyl-1,4-benzodiazepines 5a-5i and 2-amino- 1,4-benzodiazepine 5k were obtained in good yields. These novel compounds served as new chemical entities (NCE) for testing in mice. The diazo-benzodiazepine 5d has shown a promising antidepressant effect in initial experiments in vivo at a dose of 5 mg/kg. The highly coloured 2-aminobenzodiazepine derivative 5k showed over a dose range from 5-50 mg/kg an analgesic effect in mice. © Singh et al.

Side chain homologated derivatives of 2-chloro-3-(n-alkylamino)-1,4-naphthoquinone {n-alkyl: pentyl; L-5, hexyl; L-6, heptyl; L-7 and octyl; L-8} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, H-1 NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy and LC-MS. Compounds, L-4, n-alkyl: butyl; L-4}, L-6 and L-8 have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The single crystal X-ray structures reveal that L-4 and L-8 crystallizes in P2(1) space group, while L-6 in P2(1)/c space group. Molecules of L-4 and L-8 from polymeric chains through C-H center dot center dot center dot O and N-H center dot center dot center dot O close contacts. L-6 is a dimer formed by N-H center dot center dot center dot O interaction. Slipped pi-pi stacking interactions are observed between quinonoid and benzenoid rings of L-4 and L-8. Orientations of alkyl group in L-4 and L-8 is on same side of the chain and polymeric chains run opposite to one another to form zip like structure to the alkyl groups. Antiproliferative activities of L-1 to L-8{n-alkyl: methyl; L-1, ethyl; L-2, propyl; L-3 and butyl; L-4} were studied in cancer cells of colon (COLO205), brain (U87MG) and pancreas (MIAPaCa2) where L-1, L-2 and L-3 were active in MIAPaCa2 (L-1 = 1-2 > L-3) and COLO205 (L-2 = L-3 > L-1) and inactive in U87MG. From antiproliferative studies with compounds L-1 to L-8 it can be concluded that homologation of 2-chloro-3-(n-alkylamino)-1,4-napthoquinone with saturated methyl groups yielded tissue specific compounds such as L-2 (for MIAPaCa2) and L-3 (for COLO205) with optimal activity. In order to determine the properties of the bicycloheptatrienyl anion (Ia) (predicted to be conjugatively stabilized by Hückel Molecular Orbital Theory) the neutral precursor, bicyclo[3. 2. 0] hepta-1, 4, 6-triene (I) was prepared by the following route.

Reaction of I with potassium-t-butoxide, potassium, or lithium dicyclohexylamide gave anion Ia in very low yield. Reprotonation of I was found to occur solely at the 1 or 5 position to give triene II, isolated as to its dimers.

A study of the acidity of I and of other conjugated hydrocarbons by means of ion cyclotron resonance spectroscopy resulted in determination of the following order of relative acidities:

H2S ˃ C5H6 ˃ CH3NO2 ˃ 1, 4- C5H8 ˃ I ˃ C2H5OH ˃ H2O; cyclo-C7H8 ˃ C2 H5OH; фCH3 ˃ CH3OH

In addition, limits for the proton affinities of the conjugate bases were determined:

350 kcal/mole ˂ PA(C5 H5-) ˂ 360 kcal/mole

362 kcal/mole ˂ PA(C5H7-, Ia, cyclo-C7H7-) ˂ 377 kcal/mole PA(фCH2-) ˂ 385 kcal/mole

Gas phase kinetics of the trans-XVIII to I transformation gave the following activation parameters: Ea = 43.0 kcal/mole, log A = 15.53 and ∆Sǂ (220°) = 9.6 cu. The results were interpreted as indicating initial 1,2 bond cleavage to give the 1,3-diradical which closed to I. Similar studies on cis-XVIII gave results consistent with a surface component to the reaction (Ea = 22.7 kcal/mole; log A = 9.23, ∆Sǂ (119°) = -18.9 eu).

The low pressure (0.01 to 1 torr) pyrolysis of trans-XVIII gave in addition to I, fulvenallene (LV), ethynylcyclopentadiene (LVI) and heptafulvalene (LVII). The relative ratios of the C7H6 isomers were found to be dependent upon temperature and pressure, higher relative pressure and lower temperatures favoring formation of I. The results were found to be consistent with the intermediacy of vibrationally excited I and subsequent reaction to give LV and LVI.

The electrochemical properties of a series of structurally related fullerooxazoles, [6,6] cyclic phenylimidate C-60 (1), 1,2-benzal-3-N-4-O-cyclic phenylimidate C-60 (2), and 1,4-dibenzyl-2,3-cyclic phenylimidate C-60 (3), are described, and the spectroscopic characterizations of their anionic species are reported. The results show that compounds I and 2 undergo retro-cycloaddition reactions that lead to the formation of C-60 and C61HPh, respectively, upon two-electron-transfer reduction. However, compound 3 demonstrates much more electrochemical stability as no retro-cycloaddition reaction occurs under similar conditions. Natural bond orbital (NBO) calculations on charge distribution show there is no significant difference among the dianions of 1, 2, and 3, indicating that the electrochemical stability of 3 is unlikely to be caused by the charge distribution difference of the dianions of three compounds. Examination on the crystal structure of compound 3 reveals close contacts of the C-H group with the heteroatoms (N and O) of cyclic phenylimidate, suggesting the existence of C-H center dot center dot center dot X (X = N, O) intramolecular hydrogen bonding among the addends, which is further confirmed by NBO analysis.

用 Siemens P4四圆衍射仪,测得了1,4-二丙氧基-2,3-二氰基萘的晶体结构。晶体属单斜晶系,空间群为 C2/C。晶格参数 a=14.987(3)A,b=10.527(2),c=11.755(2),β=118.98°(3),晶胞体积 V=1622.4(6)3,Z=4,Dc=1.205Kg/m~3,μ(MoK_α)=0.079mm~(-1),F(000)=624,T=293(2)K_o晶体结构应用直接法,解出最后的偏离因子 R=0.0554[1425个Ⅰ≥2σ(Ⅰ)衍射点]。结构分析表明,萘环的1,4和2,3位碳原子上的氢原子分别被丙氧基和氰基所取代,由于取代基的引入使萘环的结构有所改变。

In this paper strontium-site-deficient Sr2Fe1.4Co0.1Mo0.5O6-δ-based perovskite oxides (SxFCM) were prepared and evaluated as the cathode materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). All samples exhibited a cubic phase structure and the lattice shrinked with increasing the Sr-deficiency as shown in XRD patterns. XPS results determined that the transition elements (Co/Fe/Mo) in SxFCM oxides were in a mixed valence state, demonstrating the small polaron hopping conductivity mechanism existed. Among the samples, S1.950FCM presented the lowest coefficient of thermal expansion of 15.62 × 10-6 K-1, the highest conductivity value of 28 S cm-1 at 500 °C, and the lowest interfacial polarization resistance of 0.093 Ω cm2 at 800 °C, respectively. Furthermore, an anode-supported single cell with a S1.950FCM cathode was prepared, demonstrating a maximum power density of 1.16 W cm-2 at 800 °C by using wet H2 (3% H2O) as the fuel and ambient air as the oxidant. These results indicate that the introduction of Sr-deficiency can dramatically improve the electrochemical performance of Sr2Fe1.4Co0.1Mo0.5O6-δ, showing great promise as a novel cathode candidate material for IT-SOFCs.

Quinones and their radical ion intermediates have been much studied by vibrational spectroscopy to understand their structure-function relationships in various biological processes. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of vibrational spectra in the structure-sensitive region of both the naphthoquinone (NQ) and 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone (MQ, menaquinone) radical anions using time-resolved resonance Raman and ab initio studies. Specific vibrational mode assignments have been made to all the vibrational frequencies recorded in the experiment. It is observed that the carbonyl and C-C stretching frequencies show considerable coupling in NQ and MQ radical anions. Further, the asymmetric substitution present in MQ with respect to NQ shows important signatures in the radical anion spectrum. It is concluded that assignments of vibrational frequencies of asymmetrically substituted quinones must take into consideration the influence of asymmetry on structure and reactivity.

O presente trabalho descreve o estudo da actividad e antimicrobiana de quarto derivados da quinoxalina N,N-dióxido: quinoxalina 1,4-dióxido, 2-metilquinoxalina 1,4- dióxido, 6-cloro-2,3-dimetilquinoxalina 1,4-dióxido e 3-benzoil-2-metilquinoxalina 1,4- dióxido contra as estirpes bacterianas Geobacillus stearothermophilus ATCC 10149, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Escherichia coli HB101, Escherichia coli (blaTEM, blaCTX-M) e Salmonella (blaCTX-M), assim como contra a estirpe de levedura Saccharomyces cerevisiae PYCC 4072. A determinação da concentração mínima inibitória (MIC) foi realizada pelo método de diluição. Os valores de MIC’s foram estimados para cada composto e estirpe. Os resultados obtidos sugerem potenciais novas drogas para quimioterapia.

Cultivation of an endophytic fungus Aspergillus niger EN-13 that was isolated from the inner tissue of the marine brown alga Colpomenia sinuosa resulted in the characterization of a new naphthoquinoneimine derivative, namely, 5,7-dihydroxy-2-[1-(4methoxy-6-oxo-6H-pyran-2-yl)-2-phenylethylaniino]-[1,4]naphthoquinone. The structure of the new compound was established on the basis of various NMR spectroscopic analyses including 2D NMR techniques, EI-MS, and HR-ESI-MS. Lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) reacts with latent fingermark deposits on paper surfaces to yield purple-brown impressions of ridge details which are also photoluminescent; this compound represents the first in a completely new class of fingermark detection reagents.

In this paper, we present our preliminary studies into naphthoquinones as novel reagents for the detection of latent fingermarks on paper. Latent fingermarks deposited on paper substrates were treated with solutions of selected naphthoquinones in ethyl acetate/HFE-7100, with subsequent heating. The selected compounds were 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate, 2-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone and 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone. All of the tested compounds yielded purple-brown visible fingermarks, which also exhibited photoluminescence when illuminated with a high intensity filtered light source at 555nm and viewed through red goggles. Indirect heat using an oven at 150 ◦C for 1 h was found to be superior to direct heat with an iron, which while providing faster development lead to increased levels of background colouration. Luminescence spectrophotometry revealed differences in photoluminescence characteristics for fingermarks developed with the different naphthoquinones, with excitation over the range 530–590 nm. Luminescence spectrophotometry of developed lysine, glycine and serine spots on paper was used to confirm that the naphthoquinones were reacting with amino acids in the latent fingermark.
