The memoirs were written in 2000 in California and contains some of the author's diary entries during the years of the family's emigration and reminiscences of the author's father. Detailed description of family history going back to the early 19th century. The author's grandfather Moses Stern had a rawproduct business in Gelsenkirchen, Westphalia. His father Max Stern took his graduate exam (Abitur) at the Jacobsohn boarding school in 1904 and was sent to a business school in Brussles, Belgium. Work in the family business M. Stern AG. World War One and rise of the family business with branches throughout Germany and offices in New York, London, Milan and Stockholm. Due to political unrest at the end of the war the business administration moved to Essen. Description of the family background of Beate Herzberg, the author's mother. Courtship of his parents and marriage in 1922. Birth of his sister Annelore in 1923. Martin Stern was born in 1924. Description of the family household and domestic life in a well-to-do family the 1920s. Friday visits to the synagogue and celebration of Jewish holidays. Mount Scopus Lodge in Malden, Massachusetts was a Masonic Lodge established in 1930 by Bertram E. Green and George Kramer. Named for the mountain from which Roman legions and crusaders conducted their assaults on Jerusalem, the Lodge had a strong following in the first ten years of their existence. This collection contains by-laws, concert programs, and a booklet with a historical sketch.

Esta dissertação aborda a temática do Estado Novo (1937-1945), mas utiliza-se da perspectiva municipal, ou seja, visa reconhecer os projetos do regime pela perspectiva do município de São Gonçalo. Para tal estudo foi escolhida a gestão de Nelson Corrêa Monteiro como interventor municipal pelo período de 1940 a 1945. Utilizamos como documentação os relatórios administrativos de Nelson Corrêa Monteiro, referentes aos cinco anos de sua atuação e as reportagens e publicações oficiais presentes no Jornal O São Gonçalo, que no ano de 1940 tornou-se órgão oficial da Prefeitura. Como eixos de reflexão, abordaremos três temáticas principais, por serem problemas centrais compartilhados no discurso estadonovista e nas propostas de Nelson Corrêa: a Saúde, a Educação e as Vias de Comunicação. Este trabalho torna-se uma fonte para futuras pesquisas que abordam o Estado Novo, o regime estadonovista na esfera municipal, e a contribui para a valorização e melhor compreensão da história e construção social, política e econômica do Município de São Gonçalo no Estado do Rio de Janeiro.

O presente estudo apresenta dados de uma pesquisa de caráter histórico, que visa contribuir para as análises de representações acerca dos perfis femininos nos anos de 1920 a 1940, a partir do diálogo com personagens criadas pelo escritor Monteiro Lobato em alguns de seus livros infantis do mesmo período. Os livros analisados são Serões de Dona Benta (1937), Histórias de tia Nastácia (1937), Reinações de Narizinho (1931), Memórias de Emília (1936) títulos selecionados, pois cada um possui como protagonista uma das personagens femininas analisadas ; História do mundo para crianças (1933), História das Invenções (1937) e O poço do Visconde (1937) em que as questões da modernidade e da história são destacadas pelo autor. Os livros compõem a coleção Obras Completas de Monteiro Lobato Literatura Infantil (2a série). Neste estudo, inserido no campo da história da educação, o principal corpus documental é o material literário e, por isso, foi necessária a aproximação com a história cultural, com a história do impresso e com a micro-história. Em um primeiro momento, ressalta-se a interferência das inovações tecnológicas e culturais na trajetória do intelectual Monteiro Lobato, que desempenhou diferentes papéis escritor, editor e distribuidor no circuito de comunicações no âmbito brasileiro nas primeiras décadas da República. Ademais, de maneira interdisciplinar, através de pesquisa bibliográfica, o estudo se debruça sobre o conceito de modernidade, que possibilitou a apreensão das relações da escrita fictícia de Lobato com discursos e práticas femininas, aos quais se teve acesso por meio de cartas e impressos da época analisada, assim como revistas e manuais de civilidade. Observa-se que as caracterizações das personagens apresentavam a modernidade ligada principalmente aos meios culturais, artefatos tecnológicos e ao debate educacional. Todavia, as práticas desses discursos renovadores dependeram, igualmente, das origens sociais, étnicas e econômicas das personagens representadas naquele contexto
