In the structure of the title compound, [Mg(H2O)6]2+ 2(C7H5O6S-). 2(H2O), the octahedral complex cations lie on crystallographic inversion centres and are hydrogen-bonded through the coordinated waters to the substituted benzenesulfonate monoanions and the water molecules of solvation, and together with a carboxylic acid O-H...O(sulfonate) association, give a three-dimensional structure.

This paper describes a new method for the preparation of sodium 4-[5-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxo-penta-1,4-dienyl]-2-methoxy-phenolate, DM-1, and 3-oxo-penta-1,4-dienyl-bis (2-methoxy-phenolate), DM-2. The aim of this work was to evaluate the antitumor effects of DM-1 in adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment. Mice bearing mammary adenocarcinomas (Ehrlich ascites tumors) were treated with paclitaxel alone, DM-1 alone, and paclitaxel + DM-1. Tumor samples were used to perform cytological analysis by the Papanicolaou method and apoptosis analysis by annexin V and phosphorylated caspase 3. The paclitaxel + DM-1 group had decreased tumor areas and tumor volumes, and the frequency of metastasis was significantly reduced. This caused a decrease in cachexia, which is usually caused by the tumor. Furthermore, treatment with paclitaxel + DM-1 and DM-1 alone increased the occurrence of apoptosis up to 40% in tumor cells, which is 35% more than in the group treated with paclitaxel alone. This cell death was mainly caused through phosphorylated caspase 3 (11% increase in paclitaxel + DM-1 compared to the paclitaxel group), as confirmed by reduced malignancy criteria in the ascitic fluid. DM-1 emerges as a potential treatment for breast cancer and may act as an adjuvant in chemotherapy, enhancing antitumor drug activity with reduced side effects.

The structures of the 1:1 co-crystalline adduct C8H6BrN3S . C7H5NO4 (I) and the salt C8H7BrN3S+ C7H3N2O7- (II) from the interaction of 5-(4-bromophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine with 4-nitrobenzoic acid and 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid, respectively, have been determined. The primary inter-species association in both (I) and (II) is through duplex R2/2(8) (N-H...O/O-H...O) or (N-H...O/N-H...O) hydrogen bonds, respectively, giving heterodimers. In (II), these are close to planar [dihedral angles between the thiadiazole ring and the two phenyl rings are 2.1(3)deg. (intra) and 9.8(2)deg. (inter)], while in (I) these angles are 22.11(15) and 26.08(18)deg., respectively. In the crystal of (I), the heterodimers are extended into a one-dimensional chain along b through an amine N-...N(thiadiazole) hydrogen bond but in (II), a centrosymmetric cyclic heterotetramer structure is generated through N-H...O hydrogen bonds to phenol and nitro O-atom acceptors and features, together with the primary R2/2(8) interaction, conjoined R4/6(12), R2/1(6) and S(6) ring motifs. Also present in (I) are pi--pi interactions between thiadiazole rings [minimum ring centroid separation, 3.4624(16)deg.] as well as short Br...O(nitro) interactions in both (I) and (II) [3.296(3)A and 3.104(3)A, respectively].

In the title compound, C17H15Cl2NO, the dimethylaminophenyl group is close to coplanar with the central propenone group [dihedral angle =13.1 (1)degrees between the mean planes], while the dichlorophenyl group is twisted from the plane [dihedral angle = 64.0 (1)degrees].In the crystal, C-H center dot center dot center dot O and weak C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions are formed between molecules.

In the title compound, C14H16N2O4 center dot H2O, the dihedral angles between the planes of the 4-hydroxyphenyl and ester groups with the plane of the six-membered tetrahydropyrimidine ring are 87.3 (1) and 75.9 (1)degrees, respectively. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H center dot center dot center dot O and N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding between the water molecule and the organic functionalities.

The conformation about the ethene bond [1.316 (3) angstrom] in the title compound, C25H18BrNO, is E. The quinoline ring forms dihedral angles of 67.21 (10) and 71.68 (10)degrees with the benzene and bromo-substituted benzene rings, respectively. High-lighting the non-planar arrangement of aromatic rings, the dihedral angle formed between the benzene rings is 58.57 (12)degrees.

In the present study, we have tested the cytotoxic and DNA damage activity of two novel bis-1,2,4 triazole derivatives, namely 1,4-bis[5-(5-mercapto-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-methyl)-thio4-(p-tolyl)-1,2 ,4-triazol-3-yl]-butane (MNP-14) and 1,4-bis[5-(carbethoxy-methyl)-thio-4-(p-ethoxy phenyl) -1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]-butane (MNP-16). The effect of these molecules on cellular apoptosis was also determined. The in-vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated by a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay as well as Trypan blue dye exclusion methods against human acute lymphoblastic leukemia (MOLT4) and lung cancer cells (A549). Our results showed that MNP-16 induced significant cytotoxicity (IC50 of 3-5 mu M) compared with MNP-14. The cytotoxicity induced by MNP-16 was time and concentration dependent. The cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry (fluorescence-activated cell sorting [FACS]) revealed that though there was a significant increase in the apoptotic population (sub-G1 phase) with an increased concentration of MNP-14 and 16, there was no cell cycle arrest. A novel triptycene-based dianhydride, 1,4-bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxylphenoxy)]triptycene dianhydride, was prepared from 4-nitro-N-methylphthalimide and potassium phenolate of 1,4-dihydroxytriptycene (1). The aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction between 4-nitro-N-methylphthalimide and I afforded triptycene-based bis(N-methylphthalimide) (2), which hydrolyzed and subsequently dehydrated to give the corresponding dianhydride (3). A series of new polyimides containing triptycene moieties were prepared from the dianhydride monomer (3) and various diamines in in-cresol via conventional one-step polycondensation method. Most of the resulting polyimides were soluble in common organic solvents, such as chloroform, THF, DMAc and DMSO. The polyimides exhibited excellent thermal and thermo-oxidative stabilities with the onset decomposition temperature and 10% weight loss temperature ranging from 448 to 486 degrees C and 526 to 565 degrees C in nitrogen atmosphere, respectively. The glass transition temperatures of the polyimides were in the range of 221-296 degrees C. The polyimide films were found to be transparent, flexible, and tough. The films had tensile strengths, elongations at break, and tensile moduli in the ranges 95-118 MPa, 5.3-16.2%, and 1.03-1.38 GPa, respectively. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that these polyimides were amorphous.

Nine triphenyltin - 2 - (1,2 - ethylenedithio) methylene - 3 - oxo - 5 - aryl - 4 - pentenicates were synthesized. The crystal structure of the title compound 3b (C33H28O3S2Sn) was determined by X - ray diffraction analysis. The crystal belongs to triclinic system, space group P(1)overbar with a = 0.9074 (2) nm, b = 1.6809(3)nm, c = 2.1834(4)nm, alpha =77.57(3)degrees, beta = 88.04(3)degrees, gamma = 89.47(3)degrees, V = 3.2503nm(3), Z = 2, R = 0.0592. In crystal of 3b, there exist intramolecular 0-Sn coordination bonds, with carboxylate group acting as a bidentate ligand: Sn(1)-0(1) = 0.2086(5) and Sn(1)-0(2) = 0.2594nm, having a deformed trigonal bipyramidal geometry.

Three title compounds were prepared and the structure of title compound 2 was characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR spectroscopy and the crystal structure of compound 2a was determined by X-ray analysis with the final R indices[I >2 sigma (I)] R-1 = 0.0350 and R-2,R-omega = 0.0888. The crystal of compound 2a belongs to triclinic system, space group P1 with a = 1.0598(6) nm, b = 1.307 4(10) nm, c = 1.378 6(10) nm, alpha = 62.666(7)degrees, beta = 72.530(2)degrees, gamma = 80. 680(2)degrees, V = 1.618 0 nm(3), D-x = 1. 444 g (.) cm(-3), Z = 1, F (000) = 728. The bond length of Sn1-O1 is 0. 2076 nm and Sn1 . . . O2 distance is 0.301 3 nm. The coordination about the tin atom can be considered as a distorted tetrahedral. The detail values of H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR, (2)J(119Sn-1H) and J(119Sn-13C) were obtained. delta (119Sn) = 23.836, (2)J(119Sn-1H) = 88.0 Hz, (1)J(119Sn-13C) = 347.1 Hz, (2)J(119Sn-13C) = 45.6 Hz.

In chloroform, [RuCl2(nbd)(py)(2)] (1) (nbd = norbornadiene; py = pyridine) reacts with 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,2,3,4-tetramethyl-1,3-butadiene (1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS) to give the dimer [Ru2Cl3(eta(4)-1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(2)]Cl (2a), whereas, in THF [RuCl2(1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(PY)(2)] (3) is isolated as the sole product of reaction. Compound 2 exists as a 4:1 mixture of two noninterconverting isomers, the major with C, symmetry and the minor with either C, or C-2 symmetry. A single-crystal X-ray analysis of [Ru2Cl3 (eta(4)-1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(2)] [SbF6] (2b), the hexafluoroantimonate salt of 2a, revealed that the diphosphine coordinates in an unusual manner, as a eta(4)-six-electron donor, bonded through both P atoms and one of the double bonds of the butadiene tether. Compounds 2a and 3 react with 1,2-ethylenediamine (en) in THF to afford [RuCl2(1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(en)] (4), which rapidly dissociates a chloride ligand in chloroform to give [RuCl(eta(4)-1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(en)] [Cl] (5a). Complexes 4 and 5a cleanly and quantitatively interconvert in a solvent-dependent equilibrium, and in THF 5a readily adds chloride to displace the eta(2)-interaction and re-form 4. A single-crystal X-ray structure determination of [RuCl(eta(4)-1,2,3,4-Me-4-NUPHOS)(en)][ClO4] (5b) confirmed that the diphosphine coordinates in an eta(4)-manner as a facial six-electron donor with the eta(2)-coordinated double bond occupying the site trans to chloride. The eta(4)-bonding mode can be readily identified by the unusually high-field chemical shift associated with the phosphorus atom adjacent to the eta(2)-coordinated double bond. Complexes 2a, 2b, 4, and 5a form catalysts that are active for transfer hydrogenation of a range of ketones. In all cases, catalysts formed from precursors 2a and 2b are markedly more active than those formed from 4 and 5a.

it has been established that triazinyl bipyridines (hemi-BTPs) and bis-triazinyl pyridines (BTPs), ligands which are currently being investigated as possible ligands for the separation of actinides from lanthanides in nuclear waste, are able to form homoleptic complexes with first row transition metals such as cobalt(IT), copper(II), iron(II), manganese(II), nickel(II) and zinc(II). The metal complexes exhibit six-co-ordinate octahedral structures and redox states largely analogous to those of the related terpyridine complexes. The reactivity of the different redox states of cobalt bis-hemi-BTP complex in aqueous environments has been studied with two-phase electrochemistry by immobilisation of the essentially water-insoluble metal complexes on graphite electrodes and the immersion of this modified electrode in an aqueous electrolyte. It was found that redox potentials for the metal-centred reactions were pH-independent whereas the potentials for the ligand-centred reactions were strongly pH-dependent. The reductive degradation of these complexes has been investigated by computational methods. Solvent extraction experiments have been carried out for a range of metals and these show that cobalt(II) and nickel(II) as well as palladium(II), cadmium(II) and lead(II) were all extracted with the ligands 1e and 2c with higher distribution ratios that was observed for americium(III) under the same conditions. The implications of this result for the use of these ligands to separate actinides from nuclear waste are discussed. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
