We present a search for exclusive Z boson production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using the CDF II detector at Fermilab. We observe no exclusive Z->ll candidates and place the first upper limit on the exclusive Z cross section in hadron collisions, sigma(exclu) gammagamma->p+ll+pbar, and measure the cross section for M(ll) > 40 GeV/c2 and |eta(l)|

We present a measurement of the $WW+WZ$ production cross section observed in a final state consisting of an identified electron or muon, two jets, and missing transverse energy. The measurement is carried out in a data sample corresponding to up to 4.6~fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV collected by the CDF II detector. Matrix element calculations are used to separate the diboson signal from the large backgrounds. The $WW+WZ$ cross section is measured to be $17.4\pm3.3$~pb, in agreement with standard model predictions. A fit to the dijet invariant mass spectrum yields a compatible cross section measurement.

Antipyrine complexes of eight rare-earth nitrates of the composition M(C11H12N2O)3 (NO3)3 where M = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Er, and Y, have been prepared by a new, simple method and characterised. The complexes undergo exothermic decomposition at ~3oo°C. Infrared and U.V. spectral studies of the complexes indicate that antipyrine coordinates to metal through oxygen. The nature of the nitrate bonding is discussed in the light of infrared evidence, and conductivity studies in nitromethane and dimethylformamide.

Species specific LTR retrotransposons were first cloned in five rare relic species of drug plants located in the Perm’ region. Sequences of LTR retrotransposons were used for PCR analysis based on amplification of repeated sequences from LTR or other sites of retrotransposons (IRAP). Genetic diversity was studied in six populations of rare relic species of plants Adonis vernalis L. by means of the IRAP method; 125 polymorphic IRAP markers were analyzed. Parameters for DNA polymorphism and genetic diversity of A. vernalis populations were determined.

We report a measurement of the top quark mass $M_t$ in the dilepton decay channel $t\bar{t}\to b\ell'^{+}\nu'_\ell\bar{b}\ell^{-}\bar{\nu}_{\ell}$. Events are selected with a neural network which has been directly optimized for statistical precision in top quark mass using neuroevolution, a technique modeled on biological evolution. The top quark mass is extracted from per-event probability densities that are formed by the convolution of leading order matrix elements and detector resolution functions. The joint probability is the product of the probability densities from 344 candidate events in 2.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions collected with the CDF II detector, yielding a measurement of $M_t= 171.2\pm 2.7(\textrm{stat.})\pm 2.9(\textrm{syst.})\mathrm{GeV}/c^2$.

The rare-earth trichloroacetates having the formula Ln(Cl3CCOO)3. 3H2O, where Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd or Y, were investigated by conductimetric, cryoscopic and infrared methods. The results suggest a structure in which the acetate anion coordinates to the metal through both the oxygen and the water molecules remain outside the coordination sphere.

Rare earth perchlorate-antipyrine (ap) complexes of the formula Ln (ClO4)3.6 ap have been prepared and characterised. Infrared and electronic spectra showed the co-ordination through carbonyl oxygen. Conductivity and molecular weight data indicated a co-ordination number of six for these complexes.

Dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) complexes of rare-earth perchlorates of the formula M(ClO4)3·n DMSO (M = La, Ce, Pr and Nd, n = 8; M = Sm, Gd and Y, n = 7) have been prepared. I.r. studies indicate co-ordination through oxygen. Cryoscopic and conductivity data show co-ordination number of 7 and 8.

We search for b to s\mu^+\mu^- transitions in B meson (B^+, B^0, or B^0_s) decays with 924pb^{-1} of p pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find excesses with significances of 4.5, 2.9, and 2.4 standard deviations in the B^+ to \mu^+\mu^-K^+, B^0 to \mu^+\mu^-K^*(892)^0, and B_s^0 to \mu^+\mu^-\phi decay modes, respectively. Using B to J/psi h (h = K^+, K^*(892)^0, phi) decays as normalization channels, we report branching fractions for the previously observed B^+ and B^0 decays, BR(B^+ to \mu^+\mu^-K^+)=(0.59\pm0.15\pm0.04) x 10^{-6}, and BR(B^0 to \mu^+\mu^-K^*(892)^0)=(0.81\pm0.30\pm0.10) x 10^{-6}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second is systematic. These measurements are consistent with the world average results, and are competitive with the best available measurements. We set an upper limit on the relative branching fraction BR(B_s^0 to \mu^+\mu^-\phi)/BR(B_s^0 to J/\psi\phi)

The cross section for jets from b quarks produced with a W boson has been measured in ppbar collision data from 1.9/fb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron. The W+b-jets process poses a significant background in measurements of top quark production and prominent searches for the Higgs boson. We measure a b-jet cross section of 2.74 +- 0.27(stat.) +- 0.42(syst.) pb in association with a single flavor of leptonic W boson decay over a limited kinematic phase space. This measured result cannot be accommodated in several available theoretical predictions.

We present the results of a search for pair production of the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (the stop quark $\tilde{t}_{1}$) decaying to a $b$-quark and a chargino $\chargino$ with a subsequent $\chargino$ decay into a neutralino $\neutralino$, lepton $\ell$, and neutrino $\nu$. Using a data sample corresponding to 2.7 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we reconstruct the mass of candidate stop events and fit the observed mass spectrum to a combination of standard model processes and stop quark signal. We find no evidence for $\pairstop$ production and set 95% C.L. limits on the masses of the stop quark and the neutralino for several values of the chargino mass and the branching ratio ${\cal B}(\chargino\to\neutralino\ell^{\pm}\nu)$.

We present the results of a search for supersymmetry with gauge-mediated breaking and $\NONE\to\gamma\Gravitino$ in the $\gamma\gamma$+missing transverse energy final state. In 2.6$\pm$0.2 \invfb of $p{\bar p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$$=$1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector we observe no candidate events, consistent with a standard model background expectation of 1.4$\pm$0.4 events. We set limits on the cross section at the 95% C.L. and place the world's best limit of 149\gevc on the \none mass at $\tau_{\tilde{\chi}_1^0}$$

We report the most restrictive direct limits on masses of fourth-generation down-type quarks b′, and quarklike composite fermions (B or T5/3), decaying promptly to tW∓. We search for a significant excess of events with two same-charge leptons (e, μ), several hadronic jets, and missing transverse energy. An analysis of data from pp̅ collisions with an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb-1 collected with the CDF II detector at Fermilab yields no evidence for such a signal, setting mass limits mb′, mB>338 GeV/c2 and mT5/3>365 GeV/c2 at 95% confidence level.
