Legal document involving John D M’Kay, Thomas Butler, and John Harris, February 5, 1828

Richard Leonard was a member of the 104th Regiment of the British Army. He fought during the War of 1812 at Sackett’s Harbour, Lundy’s Lane and Fort Erie. After the war he settled at Lundy’s Lane and was appointed lieutenant colonel of the 1st Lincoln Militia. He later became the Sheriff of Niagara. He died in 1833 and is buried in the Drummond Hill Cemetery.

Catherine Everingham land grant, 1802 [photocopy]

Catherine (Lemon) Everingham was the widow of James Everingham, a private with the first Battalion of Colo Delancys Regt. of the Jersey Volunteers. He died in the American Revolutionary War in 1796, leaving his wife and two children settled on two hundred acres of land in the Township of Willoughby. No certificate had been awarded to James Everingham for this land. Catherine subsequently petitioned the government to grant her the land that she had settled on with her family.

An article in the St. Catharines Standard announcing Dorothy Rungeling as a new member of council for Pelham Township. The article states, "She is the first woman to be nominated and elected to Pelham township council since it was formed in 1850,"

Johns-Manville (Canada) records, 1949-1977 (non-inclusive).

The Johns-Manville Company was founded in 1901with the merging of the H.W. Johns Manufacturing Company and the Manville Covering Company. Both companies made building materials using asbestos. The new company was based in New York, New York, and made products such as insulation and roofing materials, automotive sheet packing for cylinders, asbestos/cement, acoustical and magnesia products. Significant restructuring has occurred over the years as the company shifted from production of asbestos products to other types of building materials, such as fibre glass and forest products. Since 2001, the Johns-Manville Company has been owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The company began operations in Canada in 1918 in Asbestos, Quebec, where the Jeffrey Asbestos Mine was located. A Canadian plant opened in Port Union, Scarborough Township, in 1956, and another in North Bay, Ontario, in 1957. Both of these plants have since closed. The company currently has two plants in Canada, in Innisfail, Alberta, and Cornwall, Ontario.

Last Will and Testament - James Senior

Last Will and Testament of James Senior of Niagara Township leaving all his goods and chattels and part of Lot 94 in Niagara Township to his friend, Richard Woodruff, August 6, 1832. There are three names listed as witnesses, William Woodruff, Moses Chase and a third name.

Last Will and Testament - Deborah Clow

Probate of the Last Will and Testament of Deborah Clow of the Township of Stamford. Richard Woodruff is the executor. Deborah bequeathed 1/2 of 63 acres of land in Stamford to her friend William Woodruff of St. Davids. The other 1/2 of the land belonged to her sister Levina Wilkinson - instrument no. 3638, Setepmber 4.

Probate of Last Will and Testament - William Smith

Probate of Last Will and Testament of William Smith of the township of Lincoln. Mr. Smith was a farmer. His goods and chattels are left to his children and grandchildren. The document was registered May 9, 1865 - instrument no. 15383 and the original date of the document is January 20, 1856.

Last Will and Testament - David Clow

Last Will and Testament (copy) of David Clow of the Township of Stamford. Richard and William Woodruff are listed as executors. Attached to this will is a document stating that this is a true copy of the will, Sept. 12, 1839.

Last Will and Testament - John Picard

Last Will and Testament of John Picard of the township of Niagara. He leaves his land which consists of part of Lot 113 in the township of Niagara to Annie Mariah Steel. The executors are John Stevens and Gilbert Anderson. The document was registered July 3, 1882 – instrument no. 1743, May 9, 1882.

By-Law no. 12

A by-law begins: "It was then moved by R.S. Kinner and Seconded by George Barnes that by Law No. 12 be read. Whereas by Identure bearing date thirteenth day of August A.D. 1873 made between one George Barnes of the first part thereof and Andrew S. Kinner and Charles Robert Murray of the second part thereof which said Identure was duly registered in the Registry Office for Lands for the said County of Lincoln on the 14th day of August A.D. 1880 in Book 4 for the Township of Louth as No. 1534 the said George Barnes granted and conveyed the Lands and premises therein described to the said Andrew S. Kinner and Charles Robert Murray and their heirs and assigns as joint tenants and not as tenants as common upon the trusts and for the purposes therein expressed. And Whereas the said Andrew S. Kinner died on about the 13th day of June 1877 A.D. without having made any appointment under the provisions of the said in part recited Identure.."

By-Law No. 21

A by-law that reads in part, "Be it therefore enacted by the Ontario Grape Growing & Wines Manufacturing Company Limited, that the said George Plunkett Magann is hereby directed and required to convey premises, namely all and singular that certain parcel or track of land situate lying and being in the Township of Grantham and Louth in the County of Lincoln, containing by the same more or less being composed of parts of lots numbered twenty-one and twenty-three in the third and fourth follows, that is to say etc. etc. Adopted and passed this second day of September A.D. 1901."

Indenture from the Registrar of Lincoln and Haldimand

Indenture from the Registrar of Lincoln and Haldimand (previously listed as Book B - folio 328) stating that Matthew Carnes of Stamford Township sold Adam Hutt of Stamford Township 24 acres in the west end of Lot 12 of Stamford Township. This was registered on April 10, 1804. This document is torn and stained but it does not affect the text, January 12, 1803.

Indenture of bargain and sale from Adam Hutt and his wife Dorothy of Lincoln County regarding 27 acres to Mathias Cairns, of Stamford Township beginning at the northeast angle of Lot 29 of Stamford Township. This was registered on May 16, 1839 in Book U, folio 239 - instrument no. 12448, January 17, 1806.

Indenture regarding land sold by Jacob Cochanour of Flamborough West to Adam Hutt of Stamford Township. This land included 100 acres in Lot. no. 11, Stamford - instrument no. 5057, July 9, 1816.

Indenture Land Sold by Thomas Clark to Lewis Clement, 1817

Indenture regarding land sold by Thomas Clark of Stamford Township to Lewis Clement of Niagara Township. The land includes 50 acres in the northern half of Lot 58 in Niagara Township - instrument no. 5356, January 17, 1817.
