Cross-species nuclear transfer (NT) has been used to retain the genetic viability of a species near extinction. However, unlike intra-species NT, most embryos produced by cross-species NT were unable to develop to later stages due to incompatible nucleocytoplasmic interactions between the donor nuclei and the recipient cytoplasm from different species. To study the early nucleocytoplasmic interaction in cross-species NT, two laboratory fish species (zebrafish and rare minnow) from different subfamilies were used to generate cross-subfamily NT embryos in the present study. Suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) was performed to screen out differentially expressed genes from the forward and reverse subtractive cDNA libraries. After dot blot and real-time PCR analysis, 80 of 500 randomly selective sequences were proven to be differentially expressed in the cloned embryos. Among them, 45 sequences shared high homology with 28 zebrafish known genes, and 35 sequences were corresponding to 22 novel expressed sequence tags (ESTs). Based on functional clustering and literature mining analysis, up-and down-regulated genes in the cross-subfamily cloned embryos were mostly relevant to transcription and translation initiation, cell cycle regulation, protein binding, etc. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the determination of genes involved in the early development of cross-species NT embryos of fish. A process is presented for the forming of variable cross-section I-beams by hot rolling. Optimized I-beams with variable cross-section offer a significant weight advantage over prismatic beams. By tailoring the cross-section to the bending moment experienced within the beam, around 30% of the material can be saved compared to a standard section. Production of such beams by hot rolling would be advantageous, as It combines high volume capacity with high material yields. Through controlled variation of the roll gap during multiple passes, beams with a variable cross-section have been created using shaped rolls similar to those used for conventional I-beam rolling. The process was tested experimentally on a small scale rolling mill, using plasticine as the modelling material. These results were then compared to finite element simulations of individual stages of the process conducted using Abaqus/Standard. Results here show that the process can successfully form a beam with a variable depth web. The main failure modes of the process, and the limitations on the achievable variations In geometry are also presented. Finally, the question of whether or not optimal beam geometries can be created by this process Is discussed. © 2011 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA. Weinheim.

We calculate the in-medium nucleon-nucleon scattering cross sections from the G-matrix using the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach. And we investigate the influence of the different representations of the G-matrix to the cross sections, the difference of which is mainly from the different effective masses.

Probing in-medium nucleon-nucleon (NN) cross section sigma(1)(NN)(alpha) in heavy ion collisions has been investigated by means of the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) with the isospin- and momentum- dependent interaction (IMDI(tau)). It is found that there are the very obvious medium effect and the sensitive isospin- dependence of nuclear stopping R on the in-medium NN cross section sigma(1)(NN)(alpha) in the nuclear reactions induced by halo-neutron projectile and the same-mass stable projectile. However, R induced by the neutron-halo projectile is obviously lower than that induced by the corresponding stable projectile. In particular, there is a very obvious dependence of R on the medium effect of sigma(1)(NN)(alpha) in the whole beam energy region for the above two kinds of projectiles. Therefore, the comparison between the results of R's in the reactions induced by the neutron-halo projectile and the corresponding same-mass stable projectile is a more favourable probe for extracting the information of sigma(1)(NN)(alpha) because of adding a new judgement.

Influences of the isospin-dependent in-medium nucleon nucleon cross-section (sigma(iso)(NN) and momentum-dependent interaction (MDI) on the isoscaling parameter a are investigated for two central collisions Ca-40 +Ca-40 and Ca-60+ Ca-60. These collisions are with isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics in the beam energy region from 40 to 60 MeV/nucleon. The isotope yield ratio R-21 (N, Z) for the above two central collisions depends exponentially on the neutron number N and proton number Z of isotopes, with an isoscaling. In particular, the isospin-dependent (sigma(iso)(NN) and MDI induce an obvious de crease of the isoscaling parameter a. The mechanism of the decreases of a by both sigma(iso)(NN) and MDI are studied respectively.

The mirror nuclei N-12 and B-12 are separated by the Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL) at HIRFL from the breakup of 78.6 MeV/u N-14 on a Be target. The total reaction cross-sections of N-12 at 34.9 MeV/u and B-12 at 54.4 MeV/u on a Si target have been measured by using the transmission method. Assuming N-12 consists of a C-11 core plus one halo proton, the excitation function of N-12 and B-12 on a Si target and a C target were calculated with the Glauber model. It can fit the experimental data very well. The characteristic halo structure for N-12 was found with a large diffusion of the protons density distribution.
