The soil is one of the main C pools in terrestrial ecosystem, capable of storing significant C amounts. Therefore, understanding the factors that contribute to the loss of CO2 from agricultural soils is critical to determine strategies reducing emissions of this gas and help mitigate the greenhouse effect. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of soil tillage and sugarcane trash on CO2 emissions, temperature and soil moisture during sugarcane (re)planting, over a study period of 15 days. The following managements were evaluated: no-tillage with crop residues left on the soil surface (NTR); without tillage and without residue (NTNR) and tillage with no residue (TNR). The average soil CO2 emission (FCO2) was lowest in NTR (2.16 µmol m-2 s-1), compared to the managements NTNR (2.90 µmol m-2 s-1) and TNR (3.22 µmol m-2 s-1), indicating that the higher moisture and lower soil temperature variations observed in NTR were responsible for this decrease. During the study period, the lowest daily average FCO2 was recorded in NTR (1.28 µmol m-2 s-1), and the highest in TNR (6.08 µmol m-2 s-1), after rainfall. A loss of soil CO2 was lowest from the management NTR (367 kg ha-1 of CO2-C) and differing significantly (p<0.05) from the managements NTNR (502 kg ha-1 of CO2-C) and TNR (535 kg ha-1 of CO2-C). Soil moisture was the variable that differed most managements and was positively correlated (r = 0.55, p<0.05) with the temporal variations of CO2 emission from NTR and TNR. In addition, the soil temperature differed (p<0.05) only in management NTR (24 °C) compared to NTNR (26 °C) and TNR (26.5 °C), suggesting that under the conditions of this study, sugarcane trash left on the surface induced an average rise in the of soil temperature of 2 ºC.

Petroleum and its subproducts are considered a treat for the environmental quality because of the many environmental accidents that may occur during exploitation, transport and storage. A common remediation technique used in the contaminated areas is based on the use of surfactants, mainly the chemical ones, because they have low production costs. In the other hand, some microorganisms have indicate capacities of producing surfactants that emulsify substances and as result, offer a bigger contact surface for the microbiota degradation. This biossurfactants stand out in comparison with the chemical surfactants because they present lower micelar concentration values, are more tolerant for temperature and pH variation, because they are biodegradable, have low toxicity, higher emulsification and hydrocarbon solubilization index. In this way, after the surfactant application, a toxicity evaluation have to be made to identify the treatment effects. In soil, the activity of some microbial enzymes can show the environmental behavior of the contaminant under different treatment conditions. Dehydrogenase is one example of those enzymes that can demonstrate indirectly the effect of the pollutant on the soil microorganisms. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the toxicity after the addition of a surfactant and/or Pseudomonas aeruginosa LBI in soil contaminated by a mineral automotive lubricant. The previous mentioned bacteria are a potential biossurfactant (rhamnolipid) producer. In order to evaluate the toxicity, the dehydrogenase test was run. In this test, trifeniltetrazolium compound (TTC) after utilized as an electron acceptor, turns into trifenil formazan (TPF), that can be indirectly quantified using the absorbance measured by the spectrophotometer UV-visible. Insetos e outros invertebrados desempenham papel chave nos ecossistemas terrestres por estarem envolvidos com processos de decomposição, ciclagem de nutrientes, polinização, dispersão e predação de sementes, etc. A fragmentação de habitats reduz sua área original, podendo causar extinções locais, alteração na composição e abundância de espécies e levar à perda de processos naturais das comunidades. Além disso, modifica os padrões de distribuição dos organismos, leva a uma redução da fonte de recursos disponíveis, interfere na dinâmica metapopulacional e gera efeitos negativos na abundância e diversidade genética, que pode contribuir para o declínio de muitas espécies. Neste estudo foram identificadas as mudanças de uso e ocupação dos solos ocorridas nos últimos 35 anos no entorno da Reserva de Cerrado de Corumbataí e sua influência sobre sua fauna de abelhas, tendo como referência levantamentos de espécies realizados nos anos de 1982, 1983 e 1984 e em seguida nos anos de 2000 e 2001. As espécies de abelha foram separadas por guildas de polinização para refletir melhor sua diversidade funcional na área de estudo. A vegetação visitada por estas abelhas foi separada de acordo com o bioma ao qual pertence e elaborou-se mapas temáticos de uso e cobertura do solo dos anos de 1975, 1981 e 2010 a partir de geoprocessamento no Spring 5.0 e criação de um Plano de Informação contendo a máscara de 10 Km de raio no entorno do fragmento a partir de imagens de composição colorida das bandas 4, 2, 3 (RGB) do LANDSAT 5, resolução de 30 m e LANDSAT 1 e 2 com resolução de 60 m disponibilizadas pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE). Currently the use of pesticides in agriculture is widespread due to their high effectiveness in combating pests, weeds and diseases leading to better productivity and economical performance in agricultural area. The use of pesticides affects the whole world and their use is often performed in an improper and indiscriminate way and for long periods. Several studies have been carried out in order to verify the presence of pesticides in nature, with worrying results. The presence of higher levels of pesticides and their degradation products in soil and surface and groundwater have indicated increasing contamination. Among the most widely used pesticides, herbicides are present and among these trifluralin has occupied an important place due to its widespread use; it is an herbicide originated from benzene derivatives belonging to dinitroanilines family; it is classified as belonging to group C, being possibly carcinogenic for humans, present a high persistence in soil as a result of its low mobility and therefore may affect local edaphic fauna. Diplopods belong to a group of invertebrates considered important in the soil dynamics; due to their close contact with it, these animals can be used as bioindicators of substrates toxicity. This study aimed to expose diplopod specimens of the species R. padbergi to different concentrations of trifluralin and therefore it was mounted five bioassays containing soil from the site where animals were collected (control group) and the same soil mixed to different concentrations of trifluralin herbicide (concentration recommended for agriculture use, that is, the dose recommended by the producer 0.0534g/m2, double, haft and quarter of this dose), animals were exposed for 7 and 90 days. In the present study it was investigated, in plant and population scale, the relationship between the amount of resource and body size, species diversity and abundance and biomass of bruchids and their parasitoids. Possible effects of resource quality (soil quality and concentration of tannins in seeds) in response to the variables mentioned above were also analyzed. Mimosa bimucronata fruits were collected in two areas during the occurrence of bruchids during the years 2009 and 2010. Only the species of bruchid Acanthoscelides schrankiae was found infesting the fruits of M. bimucronata. The parasitoids belong to families Braconidae, Encyrtidae, Eulophidae, Eupelmidae, Eurytomidae and Pteromalidae. Most local-level analysis showed no significant results for both years of collection and study areas. There was only significant result for the relationship between the biomass of parasitoids and the concentration of tannins considering the year 2009 (negative trend). The soil from Lageado showed higher percentages of silt and clay. With respect to chemical analysis, pH, cation exchange capacity, and concentrations of organic matter, potassium, calcium and magnesium were all significantly higher in soil from Lageado. Therefore, it was found that the plants from Lageado are growing in more fertile soils. However, it was found that the amount of fruits and seeds was significantly higher in Rubião. Comparisons of the abundance of bruchids and parasitoids diversity among the areas that showed the highest values were observed in Rubião. In this study it was found that the abundance of bruchids and parasitoids, as well as the diversity of parasitoids was greatest in the area that had higher amounts of fruits and seeds, suggesting a significant relationship between the amount of resources and the abundance and diversity.
