SiO2-CaO-P2O5 gel bioglass (BG) nanoparticles with the diameter of 40 nm were synthesized by sol-gel approach. The surface of BG nanoparticles was grafted through the ring-open polymerization of the L-lactide to yield poly (L-lactide) (PLLA) grafted gel particle (PLLA-g-BG). The PLLA-g-BG was further blended with poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) to prepare the nanocomposites of PLLA-g-BG/PLGA with the various blend ratios of two phases. PLLA-g-BG accounted 10%, 20% and 40% in the composite, respectively. TGA, ESEM and EDX were used to analyze the graft ratio of PLLA-g-BG, the dispersion of nano-particles and the surface elements of the composites respectively. The rabbit osteoblasts were seeded and cultured on the thin films of composites in vitro. The cell adhesion, spreading and growth of osteoblasts were analyzed with FITC staining, NIH Image J software and MTT assay. The change of cell cycle was monitored by flow cytometry (FCM). The results demonstrated that the Surface modification of BG with PLLA could significantly improve the dispersing of the particles in the matrix of PLGA. The nanocomposite with 20% PLLA-g-BG exhibited superior surface properties, including roughness and plenty of silicon, calcium and phosper, to enhance the adhesion, spreading and proliferation of osteoblasts.

To improve the mechanical properties of the composites of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA, LA/GA = 80/20) and the carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHAP) particles, the rice-form or claviform CHAP particles with 30-40 nm in diameter and 100-200 nm in length were prepared by precipitation method. The uncalcined CHAP particles have a coarse surface with a lot of global protuberances, which could be in favor of the interaction of the matrix polymer to the CHAP particles. The nanocomposites of PLGA and surface grafted CHAP particles (g-CHAP) were prepared by solution mixing method. The structure and properties of the composites were subsequently investigated by the emission scanning electron microscopy, the tensile strength testing, and the cell culture. When the contents of g-CHAP were in the range of 2-15 wt %, the PLGA/g-CHAP nanocomposites exhibited an improved elongation at break and tensile strength. At the 2 wt % content of g-CHAP, the fracture strain was increased to 20%) from 4-5% for neat PLGA samples. Especially at g-CHAP content of 15 wt %, the tensile strength of PLGA/g-CHAP composite was about 20% higher than that of neat PLGA materials. The tensile moduli of composites were increased with the increasing of filler contents, so that the g-CHAP particles had both reinforcing and toughening effects on the PLGA composites. The results of biocompatibility test showed that the higher g-CHAP contents in PLGA composite facilitated the adhesion and proliferation properties of osteoblasts on the PLGA/g-CHAP composite film.

The luminescence properties of silica gels and silica gels doped with two rare earth complexes, Eu(TTA)(3) and Tb(o-CBA)(3) (TTA=thenoyltriffuocetate, o-CBA=o-chlorobenzoic acid) are reported and discussed. Pure silica gels show a blue luminescence, and the maximum excitation and emission wavelengths depend strongly on the solvents used. Both of the studied rare earth complexes exhibit the characteristic emissions of the rare earth ions in silica gels, i.e., Eu3+5D0-->F-7(J)(J=0,1,2,3,4), Tb3+5D4-->F-7(J)(J=3,4,5,6) transitions. Compared with the pure RE-complexes powder, the silica gels doped with RE-complexes show fewer emission lines of the rare earth ions. Furthermore the rare earth ion (Tb3+) presents a longer lifetime (1346 mu s) in silica gel doped with Tb(o-CBA)3 than in pure Tb((o-CBA)(3) powder (744 mu s). The reasons responsible for these results are discussed in the context.

Thirteen title complexes ROCOCH2CH2SnCl3 . L(R = C(1 similar to 5)alkyl;L = DBSO,HMPA) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR,H-1 NMR. The crystal structure of n -PrOCOCH2CH2SnCl3 . DBSO was determined by the X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal belongs to orthorhombic system, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with a = 1.062, b = 1.427, c = 1.635nm; Z = 4. The complex exists as a discrete molecule, and the tin atom attains a distorted octahedral geometry via the coordination of intramolecular carbonyl oxygen and the Lewis base donor atom. The transesterification of CH3OCOCH2CH2SnCl3 . L with alcohol was studied, and the intramolecular Lewis acid catalytic mechanism was suggested.

In this paper, the reaction and structure of the complexes of alkaline earth metal (Ca, Sr, Ba) with 2-(4'-chloro-2'-phosphonazo)-7-(2', 6'-dibromo-4'-chlorophenylazo 1, 8-dihydroxy-3, 6-naphthalene disulfonic acid (Chlorophosphonazo-DBC) have been studied. This ligand has eight forms under different acidity. The protonation reactions take place at [H+] > 0.36 mol.dm-3. The ligand begins dissociations at pH > 0.5. Two protons are released in the complexes formation reactions(Me2+ + 2HI half-arrow-pointing-left and half-arrow-pointing-right MeL2 + 2H+). The stability constants of the complexes of Calcium, Strontium and Barium have been determined by Yoe-Jone method, Majumder-Chakrabartty method and calculation method. The order of the stability of complexes is as follows: Sr > Ba > Ca. The structure of the complexes have also been studied by infrared spectroscopy, Laser Raman spectroscopy, NMR, and EPR. The results show that these groups of N = N, PO3H2 and OH are active groups in the complex reactions. The structure of the complexes of Strontium, Barium and Calcium with chlorophosphonazo-DBC are represented and the reaction and the complex bonds are discussed in this paper.

A series of nano-sized Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/La-Al2O3 catalysts that possess high activities for NH3 decomposition have been successfully synthesized by a coprecipitation method. The catalytic performance was investigated under the atmospheric conditions and a significant enhancement in the activity after the introduction of La was observed. Aiming to study the influence of La promoter on the physicochemical properties, we characterized the catalysts by N-2 adsorption/desorption, XRD, H-2-TPR, chemisorption and TEM techniques. Physisorption results suggested a high specific surface area and XRD spectra showed that nickel particles are in a highly dispersed state. A combination of XRD, TEM and chemisorption showed that Ni-0 particles with the average size lower, than 5.0 nm are always obtained even though the Ni loading ranged widely from 4 to 63 %. Compared with the Ni/Al2O3 catalysts, the Ni/La-Al2O3 ones with an appropriate amount of promoter enjoy a more open mesoporous structure and higher dispersion of Ni. Reduction kinetic studies of prepared catalysts were investigated by temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) method and the fact that La additive partially destroyed the metastable Ni-Al mixed oxide phase was detailed. In situ IR measurements for CO adsorption and preferential CO oxidation in H-2-rich gases over Ag/SiO2 catalysts are presented in this paper. CO adsorbed on the Ag/SiO2 pretreated with oxygen shows a band centered around 2169 cm(-1), which is assigned to CO linearly bonded to Ag+ sites. The amount of adsorbed CO on the silver particles ( manifested by an IR band at 2169 cm(-1)) depends strongly on the CO partial pressure and the temperature. The steady-state coverage on the Ag surface is shown to be significantly below saturation, and the oxidation of CO with surface oxygen species is probably via a non-competitive Langmuir Hinshelwood mechanism on the silver catalyst which occurs in the high-rate branch on a surface covered with CO below saturation. A low reactant concentration on the Ag surface indicates that the reaction order with respect to Pco is positive, and the selectivity towards CO2 decreases with the decrease of Pco. On the other hand, the decrease of the selectivity with the reaction temperature also reflects the higher apparent activation energy for H-2 oxidation than that for CO oxidation.
