El presente Vallejo experimental se realiz a partir del 18 de Agosto de 1989, da en que se realiz la siembra de postrera en la hacienda "Las Mercedes, evalundose la rotacin de cultivos y diferentes mtodos de control de malezas en el cultivo de sorgo. Dicho experimento culmin el 2 de Diciembre del mismo ao. Se utiliz el diseo de Bloques Completos al Azar en parcelas divididas, siendo el factor A: el cultivo antecesor; sorgo, maiz y pepinillo; y el factor los mtodos de control de malezas; Atrazina (en pre-emergencia a dosis de 1.5 kg/ha), Limpia mecnica en periodo crtico (5ta y 6ta hoja) y limpia peridica cada 15 das con azadon. Los resultados demuestran que tanto en los cultivos antecesores al sorgo como en los diferentes mtodos de control se present el Cypenis rotundus como presdominante, seguido por las Poceas, en donde sobresale la Rottboellia cochichinensis , observndose ms individuos cuando anteceda el sorgo y en la aplicacin de Atrazina. Esto permiti una mayor acumulacin de biomasa de malezas al momento de la cosecha en ambos casos (monocultivo sorgo y mtodo de control con atrazina). En las variables de crecimiento, desarrolla y rendimiento del sorgo los cultivos antecesores presentaron diferencias significativas en: El dimetro del tallo, longitud de panoja y peso de mil semillas. Referente al efecto de los diferentes mtodos de control de malezas sobre dichos caracteres en el cultivo de sorgo hubo diferencias significativas en la longitud de panoja, peso seco de paje y en el rendimiento. Siendo la rotacin maz - sorgo la que present los mejores resultados en las diferentes variables evaluadas. El mtodo de control de malezas que mejor comportamiento tuvo fue la limpia en periodo crtico principalmente en las variables como el rendimiento que obtuvo 2,822.19 kg/he y peso de mil semillas de 14.53 gramos. Es importante sealar el alto rendimiento que se obtuvo con la rotacin antes mencionada, lo cual es de 3,190.49 kg/ha, sin embargo no presentaron diferencias significativas.

In this paper, the rigid particle filled polymer is studied in the hope to understand the real damage mechanisms. Two damage parameters were introduced and measured. One is the macro-damage of the materials calculated from the modulus measured, another is micro-damage describing the interfacial debonding or the percentage of the particle debonded from the matrix. The damage rate of the macro damage decreases, while the micro damage increases with the applied stress.

In this paper, effect of strain gradient on adiabatic shear instability in particle reinforced metal matrix composites is investigated by making use of the strain gradient dependent constitutive equation developed by Dai et al. [9] and the linear perturbation analysis presented by Bai [10]. The results have shown that the onset of adiabatic shear instability in metal matrix composites reinforced with small particles is more prone to occur than in the composites reinforced with large particles. This means that the strain gradient provides a strong deriving force for onset of adiabatic shear instability in metal matrix composites.

We present a slice-sampling method and study the ensemble evolution of a large finite nonlinear system in order to model materials failure. There is a transitional region of failure probability. Its size effect is expressed by a slowly decaying scaling law. In a meso-macroscopic range (similar to 10(5)) in realistic failure, the diversity cannot be ignored. When finding out all the dimensionless variables governing this kind of flow, their physical meanings are subsequently elucidated. Then, a numerical approach of sensitivity analysis is adopted to quantify their corresponding dominance degree among the similarity parameters. In this way, we may finally identify major scaling law in different parameter range and demonstrate the respective effects of viscosity, permeability and injection rate.</span>

Se estudi el comportamiento agroindustrial de seis variedades de caa de azcar en caa planta (CP.73-1547; Cp. 74-2005 Cp. 63-588; CP.72-1210) en comparacin con la variedad L 72-3 utilizada como testigo: La plantacin se realiz el 10 de diciembre de 1986, en terrenos de la Estacin Experimental de caa de Azcar. Sobre un suelo rojo (serie Chila matillo), bajo condiciones de riego; realizndose la cosecha a los 12 meses de edad , el 10 de diciembre de 1987: como criterios de evaluacin se determinaron; brotacion; altura, poblacin, floracin, rendimiento agrcola, industrial y agro-industrial, utilizndose un diseo de bloques completos al azar y sometiendo los resultados anlisis de varianza y prueba de Duncan al 5%: las variedades que obtuvieron el mejor comportamiento en el rendimiento agrcola fueron: CP. 63-538; Cp. 72-2036 y Cp. 74-303; Cp.72-2086; CP 73-1547 y Cp.63-583.

The anisotropy and gradient of the elastic modulus and the hardness of teeth were investigated by means of instrumented indentation method. Such properties are attributed to the unique microstructures of teeth based on scanning electron microscopic analysis. By comparing the relationship between the ratio of hardness to the reduced elastic modulus and the ratio of elastic unloading work to the total work of teeth in course of indentation to those of other materials, we found that the material behaviors of teeth display metal-like characteristics rather than ceramics as considered traditionally. These material behaviors and relevant functions are discussed briefly.

Detailed investigations on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the wing membrane of the dragonfly are carried out. It is found that in the direction of the thickness the membrane was divided into three layers rather than a single entity as traditionally considered, and on the surfaces the membrane displays a random distribution rough microstructure that is composed of numerous nanometer scale columns coated by the cuticle wax secreted. The characteristics of the surface structure are measured and described. The mechanical properties of the membranes taken separately from the wings of live and dead dragonflies are investigated by the nanoindentation technique. The Young's moduli obtained here are approximately two times greater than the previous result, and the reasons that yield the difference are discussed.
