Bibliometric analysis of biological invasions research during the period of 1991 to 2007

The objective of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of all biological invasions-related publications in the Science Citation Index (SCI) from 1991 to 2007. The indicator citation per publication (CPP) was used to evaluate the impact of articles, journals, and institutions. In the 3323 articles published in 521 journals, 7261 authors from 1905 institutions of 100 countries participated. As the most productive country of biological invasions research, the US will benefit from more collaboration between institutions, countries, and continents. In addition, analysis of keywords was applied to reveal research trends.

Bibliometric analysis of nicotine research in China during the period of 1991 to 2007

With the widespread exposure of people to nicotine through recreational use of tobacco products, research into nicotine has attracted increasing attention. Tobacco smoking is by far the most important cause of lung cancer. As the world's largest producer and consumer of tobacco products, China bears a large proportion of the global burden of smoking-related disease; therefore, information on nicotine publications should be collected to formulate future research policy. In the present study, we investigated nicotine-related research articles published by Chinese authors that were indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) from 1991 to 2007. An indicator "citations per publication" (CPP) was used in the study to evaluate the impact of journals, articles, and institutes. The quantity of publications has increased at a quicker pace than the worldwide trend. Article visibility, measured as the frequency of being cited, also increased during the period. However, the overall quality of articles, based on the impact factor of journals publishing those articles, dropped behind the worldwide average level. There has been an increase in international collaboration, mainly with researchers in the USA. The average CPP of international co-authorship articles was higher than that of single country publications. Besides the USA, nicotine research in China will benefit from more collaboration with Taiwan, England, and Germany. Some 110 of 264 articles were published by a single institute, and the top six institutes were compared from various angles. Seventy-two subject categories were covered, and trends (in terms of both quantity and quality) of nicotine research in China were compared with worldwide trends. In addition, analysis of keywords in both nicotine and lung cancer research fields was applied to indicate research interests. Mutual cooperation among multiple disciplines needs further strengthening.

TRAIL in the mandarin fish Siniperca chuatsi: Gene and its apoptotic effect in HeLa cells

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is one of the TNF superfamily members, participating in many biological processes including cell proliferation and apoptotic death. In this study, a TRAIL gene was cloned from a perciform fish, the mandarin fish Siniperca chuatsi, a major cultured fish in China's aquaculture, and is named as SCTRAIL for S. chuatsi TRAIL. The full-length cDNA of SCTRAIL is 1359 bp, encoding a 283-amino-acid protein. This deduced protein contains the CYS231, a 23-mer fragment of transmembrane region, a glycosylation site and a TNF family signature, all of which are conserved among TRAIL members. SCTRAIL gene consists of six exons, with five intervening introns, spaced over approximately 9 kb of genomic sequence. Southern blotting demonstrated that the SCTRAIL gene is present as a single copy in mandarin fish genome. A 620 bp promoter region obtained by genome walking contains a number of putative transcription factor binding sites, such as Oct-1, Sp-1, NF-1, RAP-1, C/EBPaLp, NF-kappa B and AP-1. The SCTRAIL is constitutively expressed in all the analyzed tissues, as revealed by RT-PCR, which is confirmed by Western blotting analysis using polyclonal antibody against bacteria-derived recombinant SCTRAIL protein. As an apoptosis-inducing ligand, the overexpression of SCTRAIL but not the mutant SCTRAIL-C203S in HeLa cells induced changes characteristic of apoptosis, including chromatin condensation, nucleus fragmentation, DNA ladder, and increase of sub-G0/G1 cells in FACS analysis. HIRFL-CSR commissioning in 2006 and 2007

HIRFL-CSR, a new heavy ion cooler-storage-ring system at IMP, had been in commissioning since the beginning of 2006. In the two years of 2006 and 2007 the CSR commissioning was finished, including the stripping injection (STI), electron-cooling with hollow electron beam, C-beam stacking with the combination of STI and e-cooling, the wide energy-range synchrotron ramping from 7 MeV/u to 1000 MeV/u by changing the RF harmonic-number at mid-energy, the multiple multi-turn injection (MMI), the beam accumulation with MMI and e-cooling for heavy-ion beams of Ar, Kr and Xe, the fast extraction from CSRm and single-turn injection to CSRe, beam stacking in CSRe and the RIBs mass-spectrometer test with the isochronous mode in CSRe by using the time-of-flight method.

2007年辽宁省特大暴风雪形成过程与危害

2007年3月初辽宁发生了有气象记录以来最大的暴风雪灾害。在对2007年3月3—5日辽宁特大暴风雪和寒潮天气全面调查的基础上,系统分析了这次天气的强度、时空分布、形成过程和造成的危害。结果表明:本次暴风雪在辽宁省绝大部分地区出现了强降雪、降温及大风的天气特征,其中48h内全省平均积雪达20cm以上,最大降水量达106mm;最大风速为32m.s-1;主要的天气过程是500hPa高空槽、850hPa急流和切变及地面气旋的共同作用所致。这次特大暴风雪灾害给全省各行业造成了极大的经济损失。针对这场灾害的特点,提出了减轻和应对类似暴风雪灾害的建议和相应措施。

Molecular phylogenetic analysis of attached Ulvaceae species and free-floating Enteromorpha from Qingdao coasts in 2007

Based on the sequence data of the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) 1, 5.8 S, and ITS 2, the molecular phylogeny was analyzed on Ulvaceae species collected from Qingdao coasts in summer of 2007, including 15 attached Ulva and Enteromorpha samples from 10 locations and 10 free-floating Enteromorpha samples from seven locations. The result supported the monophyly of all free-floating Enteromorpha samples, implying the unialgal composition of the free-floating Enteromorpha, and the attached Ulvaceae species from Qingdao coasts were grouped into other five clades, suggesting that they were not the biogeographic origin of the free-floating Enteromorpha in that season.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo estimar o custo de produção da arroba do boi gordo no Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, com preços de setembro de 2007, usando como base o sistema de produção mais freqüentemente adotado pelos pecuaristas da região de Campo Grande, MS (sistema modal). Essa ação é parte de um projeto coordenado pela Embrapa, que visa a analisar os sistemas e custos de produção dos principais produtos da agropecuária do País.
