Mineralogy of the clay fraction from Cenozoic Strata at DSDP Leg 94

Leg 94 Sites are located in a large geographic area of the northeastern Atlantic. Clay mineral analyses of the sediments recovered on Leg 94 (Eocene to the present), together with results obtained from previous DSDP legs (47B, 48, 80, 81, 82), provide greater insight into the paleoenvironmental evolution of the northeastern Atlantic. The characteristics of Eocene clay sediments are regional, reflecting, in the absence of strong bottom currents, the influence of neighboring petrographic environments: basic volcanic rocks (Sites 403-406, 552, and 608) and acid volcanic rocks (Sites 508 to 510). During the Oligocene, atmospheric circulation patterns left their mineralogical signatures in the southern part of the area investigated (Sites 558 and 608), whereas during the Miocene the intrusion of northern water masses led to the gradual homogenization of the clay sedimentation throughout the North Atlantic. In the late Pliocene, input from glacial sources became widespread.

Carlos Barral : memorias de la cultura de España

La presente comunicación propone un acercamiento a las Memorias de Carlos Barral (1928-1989). Este libro publicado en 2001 es el texto que reúne la trilogía: Años de penitencia (1975), Los años sin excusa (1978) y Cuando las horas veloces (1988). Cada uno de ellos nos brinda no sólo la posibilidad de adentrarnos en el recorrido de la vida del autor sino también comprender la mirada que construye sobre la situación española. Varias son las motivaciones que me llevan a considerar este texto. En primer término, el lugar de colocación del autor, Carlos Barral fue un editor, un poeta, un escritor y un político, pero -sobre todo- un eslabón imprescindible de la cultura española del siglo pasado. En segundo término, la condición memorialista/autobiográfica del texto en tanto posibilidades del género. En esta comunicación me referiré a Años de penitencia que atraviesa la niñez y los años de formación de Barral, situados en su ciudad natal y con el trasfondo de una España y Europa convulsionadas, desde los años previos a la Guerra Civil Española hasta la segunda conflagración mundial. Asimismo, Años de penitencia establece una vinculación con su poesía.

Trayectorias de jóvenes que se relacionan con actividades delictivas en las grandes metrópolis de Argentina

El presente trabajo fue realizado como trabajo final integrador en el marco de la Especialización en Nuevas Infancias y Juventudes. En el mismo, se encontrará una recopilación teórica de investigaciones con trabajos de campo, desarrollados por distintos autores e investigadores argentinos en las grandes metrópolis del país en las últimas dos décadas con aquellos jóvenes que se relacionan con actividades delictivas. Dichos autores pertenecen a las disciplinas de la sociología y la antropología. La idea de recopilar investigación con trabajos de campo tiene que ver con poder analizar no sola la dimensión estructural sino la dimensión más individual y subjetiva de las trayectorias de aquellos jóvenes que se relaciones con actividades ilícitas. El trabajo estará organizado de la siguiente manera: un primer apartado en el que el tema es abordado mediante las estadísticas existentes. Seguido se encontrará las trayectorias de los jóvenes organizadas en: los jóvenes y sus familiar; los jóvenes y el contexto barrial; los jóvenes y sus trayectorias educativas y laborales; los jóvenes, el delito y el consumo de drogas; los jóvenes y las fuerzas de "seguridad", los jóvenes y sus vidas en proyecto. Time series of zooplankton abundance at station L4 in the English Channel from 1988 to 2011

Ongoing zooplankton research at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory has established a time series of zooplankton species since 1988 at L4, a coastal station off Plymouth. Samples were collected by vertical net hauls (WP2 net, mesh 200 µm; UNESCO 1968) from the sea floor (approximately 50 m) to the surface and stored in 4% formalin. Much of the zooplankton analysis has been to the level of "major taxonomic groups" only, and a number of different analysts have participated over the years. The level of expertise has generally been consistent, but the user should be aware that levels of taxonomic discrimination may vary during the course of the dataset. The dominant calanoid copepods are generally well discriminated to species throughout. Calanus has not been routinely examined for species determination, the assumption being that the local population is entirely composed of Calanus helgolandicus. In certain years there has been a particular interest in Temora stylifera, Centropages cherchiae and other species reflected in the dataset. The lack of records in other previous years does not necessarily reflect species absence. We view it as essential for all users of L4 plankton data to establish and maintain contact with the nominated current data originators as well as fully consulting the metadata. While not impinging on free data access, this ensures that this large, species-rich but slightly complex species database is being used in the correct way, and any potential issues with the data are clarified. Furthermore, a proper dialogue with these local experts on the time series will enable where appropriate the most recent sampling timepoints to be used.
