Introduction: The elderly population has increased, and the aging process is responsible for physical and metabolic changes in the body. For the elderly remain independent, with a better quality of life, preventing and treating diseases responsible for this increased of mortality should remain physically active. Objective: To investigate the influence of two types of exercise intervention on physical fitness and physical activity levels in older practitioners of Rio Claro-SP. Method: The study included 18 older adults with mean age 65.8 years (± 2.88) divided into two groups, Program in Physical Exercises Health Unit (PEFUS, n = 9) and Adapted Volleyball (n = 9). Classes of PEFUS were held twice a week lasting 60 min with strength, aerobic endurance, agility, coordination and balance exercises. Classes of Volleyball Adapted were performed 2 times per week lasting 120 minutes, divided into volleyball fundamental exercises and game. For evaluation of physical skills (strength, agility, coordination and flexibility), was performed the AAHPERD test battery. All participants were assessed at the baseline and after 3 months of interventions. The statistical analysis used was the repeated measures ANOVA, through the SPSS version 17.0 and significance level p <0.05. Result: After the interventions there was an increase of leisure time from 362.2 ± 214.9 min / week and 16.7 ± 28.3 min / week to 541.7 ± 137.2 and 44.4 ± 44.8 min / week to Adapted Volleyball and PEFUS, respectively. The variable coordination showed significant improvements after the interventions, decreasing from 12.1 ± 0.7 to 10.8 ± 0.5 sec for Volleyball Adapted and from 14.8 ± 0.9 to 12.1 ± 0, 9 sec for PEFUS (p <0.05). Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o efeito de um período de treinamento com uma aula coreografada na resistência de força de membros inferiores e na aptidão aeróbia em mulheres. Participaram do estudo, 11 mulheres ativas (Idade = 31,8  8,04 anos, Massa corporal = 60,5  6,49 kg e Estatura = 160,7  4,35cm). Foram realizados antes e após o período de treinamento os seguintes procedimentos: 1) Teste progressivo de Bruce, para a estimativa do consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO2max); 2) Teste de repetições máximas, para estimar a resistência de força (RF) e; 3) Aula coreografada. O treinamento foi realizado em um período de 6 semanas, com frequência semanal de 2 sessões. Houve um aumento significante na RF (de 30,4 3,98 para 37,2 6,25) e no VO2max (de 28,2 6,25 para 34,3 6,24 ml/kg/min) após o período de treinamento. Portanto, um período de treinamento composto por aulas coreografadas envolvendo saltos e um alto número de repetições proporciona uma melhora na resistência de força de membros inferiores e na aptidão aeróbia e mulheres ativas

The practice of regular physical activity has been considered a protective factor against the degenerative processes of the body, acting as a promoter of health, especially for risk groups such as obese and resistant groups exercise adherence as among the intellectually disabled (ID) . This study involved the administration of a training protocol and the physical parameters of longitudinal health in a subject about 43 years, intellectually deficient, hypertensive, obese and with a strong predisposition to develop diabetes and heart disease. The main objective of long-term program was to reduce body weight and normalize blood pressure (BP) after the student's physical activity and preferentially interfere with BP values at rest (ie before the daily schedule). The other objective was to improve general physical fitness. The protocol involved four meetings per week lasting one hour, in addition to participation in the program PROEFA (twice a week with sessions of one hour each), totaling 57 sessions spread over five months. The evaluation protocol included in each session the following tests: blood pressure measurements and heart rate, and amount of physical activity recorded via pedometer. Tests applied before and after the training included: anthropometric assessment, agility test, flexibility test, test drive through vertical and horizontal jumps and endurance to the test bench. The mass (kg) and BMI corresponded to the initial values of 127.7 kg and 42.05 kg m-2, and 5 months after 113.2 kg and 37.48 kg m-2, respectively. The waist-hip ratio was close to 1 after the intervention and this value corresponded to 0.98. For the test of agility (shuttle run) was not found improvement in performance. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of unilateral isokinetic strength training at high speed (180°.s-1) of the dominant leg on the rate of force development (RFD) of the contralateral limb. The study included 18 male individuals, apparently healthy, with an average of 23 years, and without regular practice of physical activities. The subjects were divided randomly into two groups: control group (GC) and isokinetic group (GISOC). Assessments were made of the values of peak isometric torque (PT isom) and RFD of both lower limbs in the pre-training. So, the GISOC underwent an isokinetic strength training with high speed (180°.s-1) for 6 weeks, with the dominant leg only and then reassessed. It was found that there was no significant improvement in value of PT isom (p> 0.05), and the RFD for the dominant limb had a significant improvement (p< 0.05) compared to the pre-training and that there was no transfer of values to the contralateral side (p> 0.05). It can be concluded that the isokinetic training at high speed was not enough for significant cross education

Due to motor difficulties, children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) doesn't feel motivated to do physical activities, sometimes resulting in a decline of their physical fitness, but it isn't really known for sure the reasons that induct children with DCD to low performances in physical fitness tests, because a lot of tasks that are part of the battery of tests of physical performance are complex in the coordination and/or motor control point of view, like the vertical jump for example. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the factors that induct children with DCD to low performances in physical fitness tests, especially in the vertical jump task. For that, cinematic (duration of the eccentrical phase, duration of the concentrical phase, shift of the mass center and velocity of the mass center), kinetic (potency peak and force peak) and vertical jump performance analysis in two conditions (with the use of arms and without it) were realized in a force platform. The results indicated that children with DCD show a lower performance compared to their peers with typical development (TD), due to a lower potency production

As mudanças demográficas decorrentes do envelhecimento populacional têm contribuído substancialmente para o aumento de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis relacionadas à idade, dentre elas está a osteoporose, considerada um dos principais problemas de saúde pública, por sua prevalência crescente e pela associação a fraturas em diversas áreas do corpo, com graves repercussões clínicas e sociais. Com isso vem se buscando cada vez mais alternativas de exercício físico válidas para o combate e prevenção a estas doenças ósseas. Como possível alternativa têm se estudado os efeitos e benefícios dos treinamentos realizados em Plataformas Vibratórias, equipamento que através de baixa amplitude e alta freqüência pode vir a influenciar positivamente nas capacidades físicas. Portanto, devido à escassez de informações acerca dos efeitos do exercício na plataforma vibratória sobre a microarquitetura dos ossos em indivíduos idosos e já acometidos pela osteoporose, o objetivo deste estudo foi, com um modelo animal, descrever através de imagens de Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV), a reação do tecido ósseo de ratas idosas ovariectomizadas ao exercício em Plataforma Vibratória. Para execução deste estudo foram utilizadas 20 ratas Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus Albinus Wistar), separadas em 4 grupos: Sedentário Controle (S), Sedentário Ovariectomizado (SO), Treinado Controle (T) e Treinado Ovariectomizado (TO). Como protocolo de treinamento a plataforma vibratória foi regulada com freqüência de 35 Hz e amplitude baixa (1 a 2 mm) e consistiu de uma fase de adaptação ao exercício e à vibração e após este período uma fase de treinamento. Para análise a região do osso selecionada foi o terço proximal da diáfise do fêmur. Exercise, in general have the ability to promote health, reduce loss of physical fitness, reduce declines in body composition and prevent disease, and promote improvements in athletic performance, and that's consensual today. Through analysis of body composition and physical fitness, you can diagnose the possible individuals at risk of developing diseases, and fractures caused by falls in the elderly. The DXA tests were used (densitometry by dual beam X-ray) to assess body composition and regional, 1 RM test to evaluate the maximum strength and girth measurements, diameters and skin folds in order to analyze the balance of power muscle with both body composition as regional. The results showed that the variance in bone mass between older content related to the change in the maximum muscular strength of the upper and lower limbs, but the force values are not related to increased muscle mass. The development of muscle strength fulfills a dual function in aging which is to maintain or reduce the rate of loss of lean body mass, and also so the body bone health

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid widely used to treat allergic and inflammatory processes. This drug is used in three main situations, are used to contain acute or chronic inflammatory processes, or like immunosuppressive drug's. In these cases the patient will receive high doses for a chronic period and, therefore, has a much greater chance of adverse side effects, such as hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Dexamethasone promotes deleterious effects on the arachidonic acid pathway, when administered in high doses, because it is a potent anti-inflammatory drug. We recently demonstrated that dexamethasone significantly reduces the protein expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in both skeletal muscle and heart, but the mechanisms involved remain unclear. Meanwhile, exercise has been shown to be effective against high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia, promoting, among other factors, the increase in VEGF and angiogenesis. One possible explanation for these effects would be the creation of new vessels mediated by inflammation, or by the stimulation of the formation of products of the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA), such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and VEGF, by increasing the stimulation of the enzymes cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 (COX-1 and COX-2). Little is known about the preventive effects of training on the action of dexamethasone in the arachidonic acid pathway. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether aerobic exercise training, performed before and concomitant treatment with dexamethasone, was able to prevent the effects of the dexamethasone in the protein expression of COX-2 and VEGF. For this, we used young Wistar rats (n = 40) which were randomly divided into 4 groups: sedentary control (SC), sedentary and treated with dexamethasone (SD), trained control (TC) and trained and treated with dexamethasone (TD).
