This paper provides location estimation based power control strategy for cellular radio systems via a location based interference management scheme. Our approach considers the carrier-to-interference as dependent on the transmitter and receiver separation distance and therefore an accurate estimation of the precise locations can provide the power critical mobile user to control the transition power accordingly. In this fully
distributed algorithms, we propose using a Robust Extended Kalman Filter (REKF) to derive an estimate of the mobile user’s closest mobile base station from the user’s location, heading and altitude. Our analysis demonstrates that this algorithm can successfully track the mobile users with less system complexity, as it requires measurements from only one or two closest mobile base stations and hence enable the user to transmit at the rate that is sufficient for the interference management. Our power control
algorithms based on this estimation converges to the desired power trajectory. Further, the technique is robust against system uncertainties caused by the inherent deterministic nature of the mobility model. Through simulation, we show the accuracy of our prediction algorithm and the simplicity of its implementation.

In this paper we discuss the ghost node problem found when triangulation of 2 or more nodes is required. We present and discuss a simple algorithm, termed ABLE (Angle Based Location Estimation), that will position randomly placed emitters in a wireless sensor network using a mobile antenna array. The individual nodes in the network are relieved of the localization task by the mobile antenna system and require no modifications to account for location determination. Furthermore, no beacon nodes (i.e. nodes that know their own position) are required. We provide analysis that indicates a reasonably small number of measurements are required to guarantee the successful
localization of the emitting nodes and demonstrate our results through simulation.

In wireless mobile computing, location management is introduced whenever users move from one place to another. In order to track a mobile user, the system must store information about their current location and report new locations to a home base station. Numerous techniques have been proposed to optimally manage the location of mobile hosts in mobile networks. This paper attempts to present a more structured and comprehensive analysis of the current location management techniques architectures and their technology enablers. We discuss some of the principal issues involved in location management and present a taxonomy and survey of location management strategies that have been proposed in the literature over the years for mobile computing systems.

This paper discusses a computer-aided methodology for thickness strain analysis (TSA) of sheet metal stampings using geometry and strain information that is extracted from finite element analysis (FEA) results. The system utilises both FEA results and an ultrasonic gauge capability expert system to assist press shop personnel, providing them with capabilities such as optimum measurement point location and an estimate of gauge error. Key advantages of this enhanced TSA methodology are related to overall efficiency and accuracy gains.

This study aimed to examine cost disparity and nutritional choices within the
City of Yarra (Yarra), targeting three suburbs that have low- and high-rise
estates: Richmond, Fitzroy, and Collingwood. The healthy food basket
(HFB) was modeled on the Queensland Healthy Food Access Basket for a
six-person family for a fortnight and was constructed to include food items
that are common to ethnic groups living in Yarra. The HFB food item costs
were sampled across 29 food outlets in Yarra. The average cost of HFB per fortnight
for a family of six was significantly lower in Richmond (Mean = $419.26)
than in Collingwood (Mean = $519.28) and in Fitzroy (Mean = $433.98). While
costs for cereal groups, dairy, meats and alternatives, and non-core were
comparable across the suburbs, significant differences were noticed for fruit,
legumes and vegetables. Geographic location alone explained 54% of the
variance in HFB price (F2,26 = 15.23, p < 0.001) and 32.7% in the variance of
fruit, vegetable and legumes (F2,26 = 7.72, p < 0.001). The effect of geographic
location remained consistent after controlling for the type of food
outlets. The type of food outlets had a non-significant effect on the variance
of prices. Richmond had a greater number variety of fruit, vegetables, and
legumes (F2, 26 = 5.7, p < 0.01) and an overall lower number of missing items
(F2, 26 = 3.9, p < 0.05) than Collingwood and Fitzroy. The diversity of food
available in the three suburbs was more likely to reflect the Vietnamese,
Chinese and East-Timorese shopping pattern than the rest of other ethnic

Knowledge workers frequently lack sufficient expertise to perform work effectively. This paper describes a recently developed expertise locator system based on automated key-phrase identification of experts from electronic mail (e-mail) messages. The paper provides an analysis of the key socio-ethical challenges involved in the implementation and use of the e-mail expertise locator system. Findings include a set of complex socio-ethical challenges, and their managerial and theoretical implications are discussed. The paper highlights possible sensitivities of employees with respect to their potential identification by the system as domain experts. It also highlights the potential for employee misuse of e-mail expertise locator systems, which must be carefully managed to reduce the risks involved.

A complete understanding of residential housing markets, particularly in relation to variations in house prices both within and between suburbs, continues to present challenges to property researchers and forecasters. Factors affecting changes in housing demand are not yet completely understood, and accordingly market changes cannot always be confidently predicted. Most urban cities contain precincts that have high or low house values at the same time, regardless of characteristics such as distance to the city centre, location of transport or topography. Exactly why these variations in suburb values occur is often unclear, although local residents are able to easily identify differences between the status of each suburb, especially when one area is clearly perceived as superior to another. Consequently, houses in premium suburbs are sold for substantially more than houses in other areas, primarily due to this perceived higher demand. An understanding of reasons behind varying levels of buyer demand has always been difficult to fully encapsulate in housing studies, even though clear links have been observed between housing affordability and the type of inhabitant that would live in a particular area. This study confirms that traditional economic indicators can not always observe the degree of purchaser and vendor willingness in the residential property market, as per the International Valuation Standards Committee definition of market value, and substantial consideration must also be given to characteristics of individual buyers and sellers within the marketplace. No longer can the focus be narrowly focussed just on endogenous factors such as interest rates and inflation levels.
Accordingly, this research draws the disciplines of demography and housing research closer together and looks to social indicators for an insight into the level of house prices. To establish this link, a two-stage process is adopted where social area analysis initially identifies the characteristics of suburbs within an urban area. This information is then used to examine variations in suburb values, resulting in a clearer understanding of the relationship between demographic variables and house prices. This research analysed changes in the value of established residential house prices in Melbourne, Australia as well as the relationship with social structure. The added dimension of time highlighted change, with data drawn from 1996 and 2001. The results confirmed the existence of strong linkages between social constructs and established house prices. Whilst acknowledging that the overall level of house values is influenced by external economic and political factors, differences between suburb values can be explained by demographic variables. The results confirm that increased emphasis must be placed upon demography when seeking to understand variations in residential property values between urban areas.

Principal Topic Internationalisation strategies are important for company expansion because New Zealand, with its four million people, has such a small market. There may or may not exist ”agency costs” in the use of Outside Directors. Ownership patterns may also influence Internationalisation.

Methodology/Key Propositions This study uses Principal Component Analysis both in a grounded theory approach and in a confirmatory approach.

Results and Implications We find evidence that in New Zealand, contrary to some previous research elsewhere, outside Directors actually have less influence on Internationalisation than Inside Directors. Private ownership also seems to have a greater association with Internationalisation than other ownership types. A highly reliable sample of 1989 New Zealand company directors showed that such factors as gender, age and location and even industry sector were irrelevant. Two factors were important in explaining whether a company goes off-shore. These are the size and magnitude of the company as well as the ownership type and role of the CEO. In essence, this study validates New Zealand’s present strategy of ”picking winners”, that is, selecting firms based upon factor components. This study adds strength to that strategy because it identifies the concrete components that should be taken into account when picking companies for special treatment, e.g. export promotion.

The rapid recall of influenza virus-specific CD8+ T cell effector function is protective, although our understanding of T cell memory remains incomplete. Recent debate has focused particularly on the CD62L lymph node homing receptor. The present analysis shows that although functional memory can be established from both CD62Lhi and CD62Llo CD8+ T cell subsets soon after initial encounter between naive precursors and antigen, the optimal precursors are CD8+CD44hiCD25lo immune lymphocytes isolated from draining lymph nodes on day 3.5 after influenza virus infection. Analysis of primed T cells at different times after challenge indicates that the capacity to transfer memory is diminished at the peak of the primary cytotoxic T lymphocyte response, challenging speculations that the transition to memory first requires full differentiation to effector status. It seems that location rather than CD62Lhi/lo phenotype may be the more profitable focus for further dissection of the early establishment of T cell memory.

This study explored families’ views and experiences of their residential location in relation to their children's health. Thematic analysis of interviews with mothers revealed that decisions to live in an outer Melbourne municipality were strongly influenced by ideals around children however; all spoke of experiencing difficulties in raising children in terms of accessing services, recreation facilities, transport and work. Analysis of these findings using Bronfenbrenner's Social Ecology Model revealed how factors could interact to affect children's health and wellbeing. The study findings highlight the importance of parental perceptions of residential location in understanding the relationship between children's health and place.

In this paper, we introduce a single-walled boron nitride nanotube (SWBNNT)-based cantilever biosensor, and investigate its bending deformation. The BNNT-based cantilever is modelled by accounting that the surface of the cantilever beam is coated with the antibody molecule. We have considered two main approaches for the mechanical deformation of the BNNT beam. The first one is differential surface stress produced by the binding of biomolecules onto its surface, and the second one is the charge released from the biomolecular interaction. In addition, other parameters including length of beam, variation of beam’s location and chiralities of the BNNT have been taken into consideration to design the cantilever biosensor. The computed results are in good agreement with the well known electrostatic equations that govern the deformation of the cantilever.

This paper investigates the bending deformation of a cantilever biosensor based on a single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and single-walled boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) due to bioparticle detection. Through 3-D modeling and simulations, the performance of the CNT and BNNT cantilever biosensors is analyzed. It is found that the BNNT cantilever has better response and sensitivity compared to the CNT counterpart. Additionally, an algorithm for an electrostatic-mechanical coupled system is developed. The cantilever (both BNNT and CNT) is modelled by accounting that a conductive polymer is deposited onto the nanotube surfaces. Two main approaches are considered for the mechanical deformation of the nanotube beam. The first one is differential surface stress produced by the binding of biomolecules onto the surface. The second one is the charge released from the biomolecular interaction. Also, different ambient conditions are considered in the study of sensitivity. Sodium Dodisyl Sulphate (SDS) provides better bending deformation than the air medium. Other parameters including length of beam, variation of beam's location, and chiralities are considered in the design. The results are in excellent agreement with the electrostatic equations that govern the deformation of cantilever.

The sport industry has identified the importance of using the internet as a tool that can benefit the organisation. Much like the purpose of entering into sponsorship of sporting events, corporate partners are also attracted to the opportunities that professional sport team websites offer to fulfil similar objectives. The major purpose of this research is to explore the various ways in which sponsor logos are represented across professional sport websites and to extend previous advertising research, specifically the work developing advertising attribute typologies. The subjects for this research are professional sport websites and a qualitative approach is adopted with a content analysis as the main method of analysis used. To ensure reliability and validity within the coding instruments used, percentage agreement and Cohen’s kappa were adopted as indexes to verify this. The findings show sponsors’ logos exist on most professional sport websites and are represented in a variety of ways. Furthermore, a typology for sponsor representation and location across sport websites has been established to present a reliable foundation for future research in the area of consumer attitudes, behaviour and response towards sponsors and their presence on sport websites.

Latin-american countries passed from predominantely rural to predominantely urban within few decades. The level of urbanisation in Brazil progressed from 36% in 1950, 50% in 1970, and scalating to 85% in 2005. This rapid transformation resulted in many social problems, as cities were not able to provide appropriate housing and infrastructure for the growing population. As a response, the Brazilian Ministry for Cities, in 2005, created the National System for Social Housing, with the goal to establish guidelines in the Federal level, and build capacity and fund social housing projects in the State and Local levels. This paper presents a research developed in Gramado city, Brazil, as part of the Local Social Housing Plan process, with the goal to produce innovative tools to help social housing planning and management. It proposes and test a methodology to locate and characterise/rank housing defficiencies across the city combining GIS and fractal geometry analysis. Fractal measurements, such as fractal dimension and lacunarity, are able to differentiate urban morphology, and integrated to infrastructure and socio-economical spatial indicators, they can be used to estimate housing problems and help to target, classify and schedule actions to improve housing in cities and regions. Gramado city was divided in a grid with 1,000 cells. For each cell, the following indicators were measured: average income of households, % of roads length which are paved (as a proxy for availability of infrastructures as water and sewage), fractal dimension and lacunarity of the dwellings spatial distribution. A statistical model combining those measurements was produced using a sample of 10% of the cells divided in five housing standards (from high income/low density dwellings to slum's dwellings). The estimation of the location and level of social housing deficiencies in the whole region using the model, compared to the real situation, achived high correlations. Simple and based on easily accessible and inexpensive data, the method also helped to overcome limitations of lack of information and fragmented knowledge of the area related to housing conditions by local professionals.

During the image formation process of the camera, explicit 3D information about the scene or objects in the scene are lost. Therefore, 3D structure or depth information has to be inferred implicitly from the 2D intensity images. This problem is com- monly referred to as 3D reconstruction. In this work a complete 3D reconstruction algorithm is presented, capable of reconstructing dimensionally accurate 3D models of the objects, based on stereo vision and multi-resolution analysis. The developed system uses a reference depth model of the objects under observation to improve the disparity maps, estimated. Only a few features are extracted from that reference model, which are the relative location of the discontinuities and the z-dimensional extremes of objects depth. The maximum error deviation of the estimated depth along the surfaces is less than 0.5mm and along the discontinuities is less than 1.5mm. The developed system is invariant to illuminative variations, and orientation, location and scaling of the objects under consideration, which makes the developed system highly robust.
