The main purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility of articulating Political Discourse Theory (PDT) together with Organizational Studies (OS), while using the opportunity to introduce PDT to those OS scholars who have not yet come across it. The bulk of this paper introduces the main concepts of PDT, discussing how they have been applied to concrete, empirical studies of resistance movements. In recent years, PDT has been increasingly appropriated by OS scholars to problematize and analyze resistances and other forms of social antagonisms within organizational settings, taking the relational and contingent aspects of struggles into consideration. While the paper supports the idea of a joint articulation of PDT and OS, it raises a number of critical questions of how PDT concepts have been empirically used to explain the organization of resistance movements. The paper sets out a research agenda for how both PDT and OS can together contribute to our understanding of new, emerging organizational forms of resistance movements.

São aqui analisados os discursos sobre as tendências gerais na teoria de Serviço Social. Estes discursos sobre o papel do Serviço Social são tratados no contexto da sociedade, bem como do cliente -assistente sócial -agência. A teoria da prática representa um discurso entre as perspectivas de Serviço Social nos seus aspectos transformacionais, terapêuticos e de ordem social. São também abordadas as suas várias combinações e interacções em todo o tipo de prática e organização de Serviço Social. O discurso sobre a eficácia baseia¬se em estudos comprovados da construção social, potenciação (empowerment), e realismo crítico ainda polémico. A prática reflectiva e crítica constitui os modelos actuais que interligam a teoria e a prática.

RESUMO: A linguagem é o traço distintivo do ser humano. É por meio dela que nos comunicamos, formamos todos os nossos conceitos, temos uma estória e cultura. A capacidade humana para adquirir um sistema de regras tão complexo como é a linguagem verbal, em um espaço de tempo relativamente curto, tem despertado o interesse de estudiosos ao longo do tempo. Conforme a literatura consultada, a linguagem, de caráter inato, é adquirida em um meio de falantes, seguindo etapas universais de desenvolvimento. Interrogamo-nos então se, nos tempos atuais, marcados pela globalização, esse processo mantem-se igual ou pode sofrer modificações. Esta dissertação resulta de um estudo feito durante os anos 2007/2009, com uma criança brasileira, e teve como objetivo principal descrever o percurso de aquisição da linguagem nos tempos atuais, utilizando a metodologia do estudo de caso. Os dados coletados foram analisados sob os cinco componentes da linguagem: Fonologia, Morfologia, Sintaxe, Semântica e Pragmática, e comparados ao referencial teórico, no intuito de identificar semelhanças e/ou diferenças entre ambos. ABSTRACT: The language is the human‟s differential trace. It is whereby that we communicate, we form all our concepts, we have a story and culture. The human capacity to acquire a rules system such complex as the verbal language, in a relatively short time space, has been awaking the interest of studious along time. According to the consulted literature, the languae, of innate character, is acquired in a way of speakers, following universal stages of development. So, we asked us if, in the current times, marked by globalization, this process keep equal or can suffer modifications. This dissertation results from a study reayized during years 2007/2008, with a Brazilian child, and it had as main goal to describe the language acquisition route in the current times, using the case study as methodology. The collected data were analyzed under the five language components: Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantic and Pragmatic, and compared to theory, intending identifying similarities and/or differences between both.

Although stock prices fluctuate, the variations are relatively small and are frequently assumed to be normal distributed on a large time scale. But sometimes these fluctuations can become determinant, especially when unforeseen large drops in asset prices are observed that could result in huge losses or even in market crashes. The evidence shows that these events happen far more often than would be expected under the generalized assumption of normal distributed financial returns. Thus it is crucial to properly model the distribution tails so as to be able to predict the frequency and magnitude of extreme stock price returns. In this paper we follow the approach suggested by McNeil and Frey (2000) and combine the GARCH-type models with the Extreme Value Theory (EVT) to estimate the tails of three financial index returns DJI,FTSE 100 and NIKKEI 225 representing three important financial areas in the world. Our results indicate that EVT-based conditional quantile estimates are much more accurate than those from conventional AR-GARCH models assuming normal or Student’s t-distribution innovations when doing out-of-sample estimation (within the insample estimation, this is so for the right tail of the distribution of returns).

From Here to Diversity: Globalization and Intercultural Dialogues sees interculturalism as movement, transit, travel, the dynamics between cultures. Contemporary intercultural travel is a global journey, a circumnavigation at the speed of light that underwrites all the comings and goings, the departures and arrivals, the transmissions and receptions that are implicit in this title. Hence, From Here to Diversity examines the motivations, characteristics and implications of cultural interactions in their perpetual movement, devoid of spatial or temporal borders, in a dangerous but stimulating indefinition of limits. In the contemporary intercultural dialogue, new voices are making themselves heard, as valuable sources of study: the voices of women; non-occidentals; the non-powerful; forgotten narratives of a past that was as intercultural as the present (after all, what is colonialism other than a perverse form of interculturality?); global entertainment; tourism; oral literature; diaries; mythical narratives; the cinema; ethnography; new teachings, among so many others. Because this project is also intercultural at its source and subject, From Here to Diversity: Globalization and Intercultural Dialogues adds to the coherence of the project by including contributions from the most wide-ranging backgrounds and nationalities, without fear of the alterity that, after all, we propose to study.

In this paper is presented a Game Theory based methodology to allocate transmission costs, considering cooperation and competition between producers. As original contribution, it finds the degree of participation on the additional costs according to the demand behavior. A comparative study was carried out between the obtained results using Nucleolus balance and Shapley Value, with other techniques such as Averages Allocation method and the Generalized Generation Distribution Factors method (GGDF). As example, a six nodes network was used for the simulations. The results demonstrate the ability to find adequate solutions on open access environment to the networks.

Neste trabalho, com base na análise de diferentes formas de conceber e entender a integração didática na perspetiva curricular portuguesa e da consideração do trinómio didático - globalização da aprendizagem / motivação / ensino e aprendizagem integrados nos primeiros anos de escolaridade –, propomos, do ponto de vista científico - didático, uma reflexão sobre os princípios e fundamentos da sequenciação didática e da construção de unidades didáticas integradoras, com o objetivo de dar contributos significativos para que, desde a formação de professores, se possam criar bases teórico-práticas de definição de percursos de ensino e aprendizagem com potencial efetivo de integração nas dimensões epistemológica e curricular.

The development of children's school achievements in mathematics is one of the most important aims of education in Poland. The results of research concerning monitoring of school achievements in maths is not optimistic. We can observe low levels of children’s understanding of the merits of maths, self-developed strategies in solving problems and practical usage of maths skills. This article frames the discussion of this problem in its psychological and didactic context and analyses the causes as they relate to school practice in teaching maths

We have generalized earlier work on anchoring of nematic liquid crystals by Sullivan, and Sluckin and Poniewierski, in order to study transitions which may occur in binary mixtures of nematic liquid crystals as a function of composition. Microscopic expressions have been obtained for the anchoring energy of (i) a liquid crystal in contact with a solid aligning surface; (ii) a liquid crystal in contact with an immiscible isotropic medium; (iii) a liquid crystal mixture in contact with a solid aligning surface. For (iii), possible phase diagrams of anchoring angle versus dopant concentration have been calculated using a simple liquid crystal model. These exhibit some interesting features including re-entrant conical anchoring, for what are believed to be realistic values of the molecular parameters. A way of relaxing the most drastic approximation implicit in the above approach is also briefly discussed.
