To conserve natural resources and energy, the amount of recycled asphalt pavement has been steadily increasing in the construction of asphalt pavements. The objective of this study is to develop quality standards for inclusion of high RAP content. To determine if the higher percentage of RAP materials can be used on Iowa’s state highways, three test sections with target amounts of RAP materials of 30%, 35% and 40% by weight were constructed on Highway 6 in Iowa City. To meet Superpave mix design requirements for mixtures with high RAP contents, it was necessary to fractionate the RAP materials. Three test sections with actual RAP materials of 30.0%, 35.5% and 39.2% by weight were constructed and the average field densities from the cores were measured as 95.3%, 94.0%, and 94.3%, respectively. Field mixtures were compacted in the laboratory to evaluate moisture sensitivity using a Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device. After 20,000 passes, rut depths were less than 3mm for mixtures obtained from three test sections. The binder was extracted from the field mixtures from each test section and tested to identify the effects of RAP materials on the performance grade of the virgin binder. Based on Dynamic Shear Rheometer and Bending Beam Rheometer tests, the virgin binders (PG 64-28) from test sections with 30.0%, 35.5% and 39.2% RAP materials were stiffened to PG 76-22, PG 76-16, and PG 82-16, respectively. The Semi-Circular Bending (SCB) test was performed on laboratory compacted field mixtures with RAP amounts of 30.0%, 35.5% and 39.2% at two different temperatures of -18 and -30 °C. As the test temperature decreased, the fracture energy decreased and the stiffness increased. As the RAP amount increased, the stiffness increased and the fracture energy decreased. Finally, a condition survey of the test sections was conducted to evaluate their short-term pavement performance and the reflective transverse cracking did not increase as RAP amount was increased from 30.0% to 39.2%.

Situat en una concepció educativa que busca la crisi per créixer humanament, el text fa desfilar els elements que segons l’autora nuen l’experiència educativa amb la realitat present amb la qual conviuen, posant de relleu la configuració d’un quasidiscurs que intenta segrestar la crisi necessària per a l’aprenentatge. No obstant, la reflexió planteja que més enllà de la lògica de relats i pràctiques incapacitadores també hi ha espais, temps i elements, com la humilitat i la indisciplina, que permeten que la potencialitat educativa de la crisi no desaparegui de l’experiència vital de cada criatura.

The main objective of this research is to examine the effects that different methods of RAP stockpile fractionation would have on the volumetric mix design properties for high-RAP content surface mixes, with the goal of meeting all specified criteria for standard HMA mix designs. To determine the distribution of fine aggregates and binder in RAP stockpile, RAP materials were divided by each sieve size. The composition of RAP materials retained on each sieve was analyzed to determine the optimum fractionation method. Fractionation methods were designed to separate the stockpile at a specified sieve size to control the amount of fine RAP materials which contain higher amounts of fine aggregates and dust contents. These fine RAP materials were used in reduced proportions or completely eliminated, thereby decreasing the amount of fine aggregate materials introduced to the mix. Mix designs were performed using RAP materials from four different stockpiles and the two fractionated methods were used with high-RAP contents up to 50% by virgin binder replacement. By using a fractionation method, a mix with up to 50% RAP was successfully designed while meeting all Superpave criteria and asphalt film thickness requirement by controlling the dust content from RAP stockpiles.

La investigación El saber profesional en docentes de educación primaria y sus implicaciones en laformación inicial del profesorado: estudios de caso (Investigación financiada por el Ministerio deEconomía y Competitividad, actualmente en desarrollo, con diez docentes participantes) pretendeubicar el saber profesional de docentes en una relación pensante con lo que sucede ensus aulas, con su alumnado y con ellos mismos.El presente artículo centra el análisis en la investigación realizada con una docente deeducación infantil, Esther, maestra de Educación infantil, de una escuela pública de la localidadcatalana de La Garriga. Tiene a su cargo 13 niñas y 11 niños de 3 años. Se indaga los modosy maneras en como despliega el saber profesional desde una perspectiva analítica de suexperiencia, con la intención de descubrir las claves pedagógicas que guían su práctica, con el objetivo de transferir los conocimientos a la formación universitaria.

L'objectiu d'aquest article és presentar les principals opcions te6riques i metodol6giques d'un projecte d'investigació en curs en el Departament de Psicologia Evolutiva i de l'Educació de la Universitat de Barcelona. El nucli d'aquesta problematica pot definir-se, en una primera aproximació, com I'estudi d'alguns mecanismes d'influéncia educativa que es manifesten en la interacció entre el professor i els alumnes o hi actuen a través seu, en el cas de I'educació escolar, i la interacció entre I'adult i el nen, en el cas de situacions educatives no escolars.

Provision of left turn lanes is a major problem which lacks an objective approach. Various techniques and procedures in use have been reviewed. Traffic characteristics at typical Iowa intersections have been measured. A rational approach for inclusion of a left turn lane has been developed, based on relating the benefits to the road user to the cost of providing the added turing lane. An analysis of field data gathered under this project indicates that the use of theoretical distribution to describe vehicle headways is not applicable to rural Iowa two lane roads. As an alternate approach the mass of field data gathered were examined using multiple regression techniques to yield equations for predicting stops and delays. The benefit-cost ratio technique is recommended as the criterion for decision making.

Ens proposem estudiar i analitzar l'efecte que ha tingut, en el marc d'un microestudi fet amb un grup d'alumnes de 4t d'ESO, la discriminació positiva envers l'ús del català, discriminació que ha estat regulada jurídicament des de l'any 1983 amb la Llei de normalització lingüística, la Llei de política lingüística de 1998 i la Llei d'Educació de Catalunya. La vila de Palafrugell ha estat sotmesa a freqüents onades migratòries des dels anys cinquanta del segle passat. Aquest mestissatge poblacional queda reflectit en els centres educatius, sobretot des de la darrera onada procedent fonamentalment de Marroc, Amèrica del Sud i països centreeuropeus. Aproximadament una quarta part de la població és estrangera oficialment; tot amb tot, els fills dels estrangers, nascuts a Catalunya, i, per tant, nacionalitzats catalans, segueixen patrons culturals familiars.

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the second most common degenerative dementia after Alzheimer's disease and its Lewy body variant. Clinical pathology can be subdivided in three main neuropathological subtypes: frontal lobe dementia, Pick's disease and FTD with motor neuron disease (MND), all characterised by distinct histological features. Until recently the presence of ubiquitin-positive intraneuronal inclusions in the dentate gyrus, and the temporal and frontal cortex was usually associated with the MND type. Such inclusions were also observed in a few sporadic cases of FTD without or with parkinsonism (FTDP) in the absence of MND. We present here clinical, neuropathological and immunohistochemical data about a Swiss FTD family with FTDP-like features but without MND. Spongiosis and mild gliosis were observed in the grey matter. No neurofibrillary tangles, Pick bodies, Lewy bodies, senile plaques or prion-positive signals were present. However, ubiquitin-positive intracytoplasmic inclusions were detected in various structures but predominantly in the dentate gyrus. These observations support the existence of a familial form of FTDP with ubiquitin-positive intracytoplasmic inclusions (Swiss FTDP family).

In this paper, the theory of hidden Markov models (HMM) isapplied to the problem of blind (without training sequences) channel estimationand data detection. Within a HMM framework, the Baum–Welch(BW) identification algorithm is frequently used to find out maximum-likelihood (ML) estimates of the corresponding model. However, such a procedureassumes the model (i.e., the channel response) to be static throughoutthe observation sequence. By means of introducing a parametric model fortime-varying channel responses, a version of the algorithm, which is moreappropriate for mobile channels [time-dependent Baum-Welch (TDBW)] isderived. Aiming to compare algorithm behavior, a set of computer simulationsfor a GSM scenario is provided. Results indicate that, in comparisonto other Baum–Welch (BW) versions of the algorithm, the TDBW approachattains a remarkable enhancement in performance. For that purpose, onlya moderate increase in computational complexity is needed.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of pelletized or extruded diets, with different levels of carbohydrate and lipid, on the gastrointestinal transit time (GITT) and its modulation in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). One hundred and eighty pacu juveniles were fed with eight isonitrogenous diets containing two carbohydrate levels (40 and 50%) and two lipid levels (4 and 8%). Four diets were pelletized and four were extruded. Carbohydrate and lipid experimental levels caused no changes to the bolus transit time. However, the bolus permanence time was related to diet processing. Fish fed pelletized diets exhibited the highest gastrointestinal transit time. Regression analysis of bolus behavior for pelletized and extruded diets with 4% lipid depicted different fits. GITT regression analysis of fish fed 8% lipid was fitted to a cubic equation and displayed adjustments of food permanence, with enhanced utilization of the diets, either with extruded or pelletized diets. GITT of fish fed extruded diets with 4% lipid was adjusted to a linear equation. The GITT of pacu depends on the diet processing and is affected by dietary levels of lipid and carbohydrate.
