This is the report from the Regional Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 10th November 1980. The report contains sections on the proceedings of Local Fisheries Advisory Committees, netting of Flimby Beach, the closure of Preston Docks, a review of fishery byelaws and restocking of fisheries at Authority Reservoirs. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

Lune, Wyre & Furness Fisheries Advisory Committee 10th January, 1980.

This is the report from the Lune, Wyre and Furness Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 10th January 1980. The report contains sections on the minutes of the Special Meeting held on 13th December 1979, net and fixed engine licence duties, the EEC Directive on the quality of freshwaters and terminated angling leases. It also includes the report by the area fisheries officer which looks at river conditions and fishing, fish monitoring at Broadraine, Skerton, Haverthwaite and Duddon Hall stations, and an update on Middleton hatchery. Also covered in the report is an update on the cage rearing of salmon smolts for the River Leven, stockings carried out by the Water Authority, and information on fish disease, fish spawning and net catch figures for 1979. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

This is the report from the Lune, Wyre and Furness Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 10th April 1980. The report contains the minutes of previous meetings, information regarding rod and line licence duties, the pipeline project by British Gas Corporation, fisheries byelaws, a survey of goosanders and mergansers and information on Pedder Pots reservoir. It also includes the report by the area fisheries officer which looks at river conditions and fishing, an update on Middleton Hatchery and the cage rearing of smolts for the River Leven. It also covers stockings carried out by Angling Associations, U.D.N. fish disease and monthly salmon and sea trout catches for the 1979 season. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

River Dart Biological Survey 10th June - 15th July 1968

This is the River Dart Biological Survey from 10th June to 15th July 1968 by the Devon River Authority. This survey was undertaken to investigate the invertebrate bottom fauna of the river and to assess the condition of the river with regard to pollution. It describes the environmental conditions of the River Dart and the biological sampling method used, plus a brief conclusion of the survey. It also contains tables with the different species present and abundance on each sampling stations.

Glossoma intermedium survey. Scotland, April 5th to April 10th 2012

The British Glossomatidae contains seven species, split between the genera Glossosoma, Agapetus and Synagapetus. One species, Glossosoma intermediumhas not been recorded in England since 2003. This was found in a side stream of Hayeswater gill in the Lake District. The main purpose of this survey was to try and locate and record Glossosoma intermedium and was a follow up to a similar survey we carried out in the Glennshee area of Scotland during April 2011. Additionally, as in the 2011 survey it also made sense that while looking for the larvae, pupae and adults of Glossosoma intermediumwe could also record other species of caddisfly (Trichoptera), mayfly (Ephemeroptera) and stonefly (Plecoptera).

Aquatic ecology monitoring: water quality, fish, fish catch, sanitation and disease vectors: monitoring no. 8, 6– 10th April 2011

The result reported were from a monitoring survey no.8 undertaken between 6th and 10th April 2011 during construction period of the Bujagali Hydropwer Project (BHPP). Two pre-construction, baseline surveys in April 2000 and April 2006 were conducted and so far,durin construction phase of the project, seven monitoring surveys have been undertaken i.e. in September 2007, April 2008, April 2009,October 2009, April 2010, September 2010 and the present one, in April 2011. Since 2009 biannual monitoring surveys have been conducted at an upstream and a downstream transect of the BHPP with emphasis on the following aspects: Water quality determinants Biology and ecology of fishes and food webs Fish stock and fish catch including economic aspects of catch and Sanitation/vector studies (bilharzias and river blindness)

A redescription of Diogenes senex Heller, 1865, sensu stricto (Decapoda: Anomura: Paguridea: Diogenidae)

Diogenes senex Heller, 1865 sensu stricto is redescribed from specimens collected in Australia, particularly in and around the type locality of Sydney. A neotype has been designated. Comparisons of this material with other specimens identified as D. senex by a number of authors has shown that at present only the Australian material truly represents Heller's taxon.

Classification of jinjiang oysters Crassostrea rivularis (Gould, 1861) from China, based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis

The jinjiang oyster Crassostrea rivularis [Gould, 1861. Descriptions of Shells collected in the North Pacific Exploring Expedition under Captains Ringgold and Rodgers. Proc. Boston Soc. Nat. Hist. 8 (April) 33-40] is one of the most important and best-known oysters in China. Based on the color of its flesh, two forms of C rivularis are recognized and referred to as the "white meat" and 11 red meat" oysters. The classification of white and red forms of this species has been a subject of confusion and debate in China. To clarify the taxonomic status of the two forms of C. rivularis, we collected and analyzed oysters from five locations along China's coast using both morphological characters and DNA sequences from mitochondrial 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase 1, and the nuclear 28S rRNA genes. Oysters were classified as white or red forms according to their morphological characteristics and then subjected to DNA sequencing. Both morphological and DNA sequence data suggest that the red and white oysters are two separate species. Phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences obtained in this study and existing sequences of reference species show that the red oyster is the same species as C. ariakensis Wakiya [1929. Japanese food oysters. Jpn. J. Zool. 2, 359-367.], albeit the red oysters from north and south China are genetically distinctive. The white oyster is the same species as a newly described species from Hong Kong, C. hongkongensis Lam and Morton [2003. Mitochondrial DNA and identification of a new species of Crassostrea (Bivalvia: Ostreidae) cultured for centuries in the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, China. Aqua. 228, 1-13]. Although the name C. rivularis has seniority over C. ariakensis and C. hongkongensis, the original description of Ostrea rivularis by Gould [1861] does not fit shell characteristics of either the red or the white oysters. We propose that the name of C. rivularis Gould [1861] should be suspended, the red oyster should take the name C. ariakensis, and the white oyster should take the name C. hongkongensis.
