The effects of seasonal and regional differences in diet composition on the food requirements of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) were estimated by using a bioenergetic model. The model considered differences in the energy density of the prey, and differences in digestive efficiency and the heat increment of feeding of different diets. The model predicted that Steller sea lions in southeast Alaska required 45–60% more food per day in early spring (March) than after the breeding season in late summer (August) because of seasonal changes in the energy density of the diets (along with seasonal changes in energy requirements). The southeast Alaska population, at 23,000 (±1660 SD) animals (all ages), consumed an estimated 140,000 (±27,800) t of prey in 1998. In contrast, we estimated that the 51,000 (±3680) animals making up the western Alaska population in the Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands consumed just over twice this amount (303,000 [±57,500] t). In terms of biomass removed in 1998 from Alaskan waters, we estimated that Steller sea lions accounted for about 5% of the natural mortality of gadids (pollock and cod) and up to 75% of the natural mortality of hexagrammids (adult Atka mackerel). These two groups of species were consumed in higher amounts than any other. The predicted average daily food requirement per individual ranged from 16 (±2.8) to 20 (±3.6) kg (all ages combined). Per capita food requirements differed by as much as 24% between regions of Alaska depending on the relative amounts of low–energy-density prey (e.g. gadids) versus high–energy-density prey (e.g. forage fish and salmon) consumed. For the first time, lasers have been used to induce a fast all-optical nonresonant nonlinearity at wavelengths well beyond the band edge in a GaAs/GaAlAs multiquantum well waveguide. Using a Q-switched diode laser, which gave optical pulses of 3.5 ps duration and 7 W peak power, an intensity-dependent transmission was recorded that was consistent with the presence of two photon absorption in the waveguide. The measured two photon absorption coefficient was 11 ± 2cm/GW.

In fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) prestressed concrete applications, an FRP tendon must sustain high axial tensile stresses and, if cracks occur, additional dowel forces. The tendon may also be exposed to solutions and so the combined axial-shear stress performance after long-term environmental exposure is important. Experiments were conducted to investigate the combined axial-shear stress failure envelope for unidirectional carbon FRP tendons which had been exposed to either water, salt water or concrete pore solution at 60 °C for approximately 18 months. The underlying load resisting mechanisms were found to depend on the loading configuration, restraint effects and the initial stress state. When saturated, CFRP tendons are likely to exhibit a reduced shear stiffness. However, the ultimate limit state appeared to be fibre-dominated and was therefore less susceptible to reductions due to solution uptake effects. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

At low mass flow rates axial compressors suffer from flow instabilities leading to stall and surge. The inception process of these instabilities has been widely researched in the past - primarily with the aim of predicting or averting stall onset. In recent times, attention has shifted to conditions well before stall and has focussed on the level of irregularity in the blade passing signature in the rotor tip region. In general, this irregularity increases in intensity as the flow rate through the compressor is reduced. Attempts have been made to develop stall warning/avoidance procedures based on the level of the flow irregularity, but little effort has been made to characterise the irregularity, or to understand its underlying causes. Work on this project has revealed for the first time that the increase in irregularity in the blade passing signature is highly dependent on both tip-clearance and eccentricity. In a compressor with small, uniform, tip-clearance, the increase in blade passing irregularity which accompanies a reduction in flow rate will be modest. If the tip-clearance is enlarged, however, there will be a sharp rise in irregularity at all circumferential locations. In a compressor with eccentric tip-clearance, the increase in irregularity will only occur in the part of the annulus where the tip-clearance is largest, regardless of the average clearance level. In this paper, some attention is also given to the question of whether this irregularity observed in the pre-stall flow field is due to random turbulence, or to some form of coherent flow structure. Detailed flow measurements reveal that the latter is the case. From these findings, it is clear that a stall warning system based on blade passing signature irregularity will not be viable in an aero-engine where tip-clearance size and eccentricity change during each flight cycle and over the life of the compressor. 借助细胞培养和电镜技术,揭示了鳜球形病毒(Siniperca chuatsi spherical virus,SCSV)与鳜弹状病毒(Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus,SCRV)在草鱼鳍细胞(Grass carp fins,GCF)中共感染的现象。在筛选到敏感鱼类细胞系和建立了 鳜病毒体外增殖系统的基础上,取息典型病毒感染出血症的鳜组织,制备组织悬液,接种到GCF细胞中传代培养, 在攻毒后间隔不同时间收集细胞,对攻毒细胞的超薄切片进行电镜观察。揭示两种形态的鳜病毒可在同一个GCF

A model gas turbine burner was employed to investigate spray flames established under globally lean, continuous, swirling conditions. Two types of fuel were used to generate liquid spray flames: palm biodiesel and Jet-A1. The main swirling air flow was preheated to 350°C prior to mixing with airblast-atomized fuel droplets at atmospheric pressure. The global flame structure of flame and flow field were investigated at the fixed power output of 6 kW. Flame chemiluminescence imaging technique was employed to investigate the flame reaction zones, while particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) was utilized to measure the flow field within the combustor. The flow fields of both flames are almost identical despite some differences in the flame reaction zones. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A 3(rd) order complex band-pass filter (BPF) with auto-tuning architecture is proposed in this paper. It is implemented in 0.18 mu m standard CMOS technology. The complex filter is centered at 4.092MHz with bandwidth of 2.4MHz. The in-band 3(rd) order harmonic input intercept point (IIP3) is larger than 19dBm, with 50 Omega as the source impedance. The input referred noise is about 80 mu V-rms. The RC tuning is based on Binary Search Algorithm (BSA) with tuning accuracy of 3%. The chip area of the tuning system is 0.28x0.22mm(2), less than 1/8 of that of the main-filter which is 0.92x0.59mm(2). After tuning is completed, the tuning system will be turned off automatically to save power and to avoid interference. The complex filter consumes 2.6mA with a 1.8V power supply.

提出了一个基于存储层次的新并行计算模型DRAM(h),并在该模型下对两个经典并行数值计算算法的不同实现形式:四种形式并行了三角方程求解(PTRS)和六种形式无列选主元并行LU分解(PLU),进行了分析。模型分析表明,具有近乎相同时间和空间复杂性的同一算法不同实现形式在该模型下会有完全不同的存储复杂度。作者在日立公司SR2201 MPP并行机、曙光3000超级服务器和中国科学院科学与工程计算国家重点实验室(LSEC)的128节点Linux Cluster等三种并行计算平台上对模型分析结果进行了实验验证。结果表明,该模型分析在绝大数情况下都能较好地与不同实验枰台上的实验结果吻合。个别出现偏差的分析结果,在根据计算平台的存储层次特点修改模型分析的假定后,也能够进行解释。这说明了该模型以不同形式的算法实现进行存储访问模式区分的有效性。对在计算模型中加入指令/线程级并行的可行性和方法的研究是下一步的工作。

动态多层Web系统在运行时会受到许多不确定性因素的影响.同时,在不同的负载模式下具有不同的性能特性,需要不同的性能模型进行描述.为消除不确定性因素对系统性能的影响,基于反馈控制原理设计的性能保障机制主要采用单一、固定的系统性能模型,对动态Web系统变化的性能特征考虑不够.在负载呈波动且具有不可预测特性的Internet环境中,这会降低性能目标的精确性和稳定性.采用自适应控制的思想,以满足请求平均响应时间为目标,提出了一种基于在线评估系统性能模型的保障机制,并采用两个不同类型的事务性Web测试基准,对所提方法进行了评价.结果表明,该方法能够有效减轻变化负载模式下响应时间与预期目标的偏离程度.

Infrared absorption experiments have been performed on hydrogenated and deuterated bulk boron- and aluminum-doped-Si and implanted P, As, and Sb donors in silicon. A first evidence of complex formation in bulk p-type Si is obtained and the spectra confirm the anomalous 3.3-cm-1 deuterium frequency shift with respect to boron isotopes. The ratio of the D-B-11 and D-B-10 peak areas is found to be the same as that of the two boron isotopes natural abundance. In donor-implanted silicon, a quantitative analysis of the obtained data has allowed a rough estimate of the passivating rate due to diffusing deuterium. While the frequencies of the various vibrational lines are found to be in agreement with those reported in the literature, the data on the broad line at 1660 cm-1 (H) or 1220 cm-1 (D) seem to suggest an assignment of this peak to a complex in the bulk involving some type of defect due to the implantation process.
