Aplicació Android per estudiants universitaris

Mi proyecto es una aplicación Android llamada PACK_UAB que permite a los estudiantes consultar diferentes páginas de nuestra universidad, como el expediente académico y la página de los laboratorios para la consulta o inscripción a los grupos de prácticas. Estas páginas están parseadas para que solamente aparezca la información importante para el estudiante y además están adaptadas a la pantalla del teléfono. Este proyecto es una solución para los estudiantes porque pueden hacer estas tareas desde cualquier sitio con su teléfono Android si disponen de conexión a Internet y solamente pulsando un botón.

Evaluation of the early changes occurring in the draining lymph node upon subcutaneous stimulation

Adjuvants have been shown since many years to have an important role in enhancing the immune responses against the co-administered antigens used as vaccines. The continuous study of the mechanism of action of adjuvants is necessary to develop further safe and efficacious vaccines. Complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) is currently in use as adjuvant to induce some autoimmune diseases in murine models, therefore the study of the mechanisms involved in the generation of the related immune responses could be instrumental for the understanding of the induction of inflammatory Thl7 responses. In the present work, we showed in C57B1/6 mice that CFA peripheral administration induces very early, at 6 h, a potent influx of CDllb+ cells, mainly neutrophils (CD11b+Ly6GhighLy6Cint) and monocytes (CD11b+Ly6GlowLy6Chigh), in the draining lymph node. By investigating the route by which neutrophils reach the lymph node we observed that, around 20% of them arrive from the afferent lymph and the majority stains positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We also observed a correlation between the influx of neutrophils and an increase in IL-23 and IL-Ιβ, together with several inflammatory chemokines, in the draining lymph node. Concomitantly, we detected the expression of the IL-23 receptor on CDllc+ DCs. Moreover, we confirmed the ability of murine neutrophils to express IL-23 both, in vitro by stimulating bone-marrow extracted PMNs with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and on total cells from draining lymph node by immunohistochemistry. We also observed by in vivo priming a reduction in the percentage of IFN-γ and CXCR3 expressing Τ cells upon depletion of neutrophils. Altogether, we show that upon stimulation from the periphery, the draining lymph node undergo changes in cytokine/chemokine production leading to the recruitment of different leukocytes subpopulations. Here we show that CFA induces a rapid influx of neutrophils which are responsible for the production of IL-23 that in turn influences the generation of Τ helper cells.

Desenvolupament d'una aplicació Android per a Moodle

L'evolució que la tecnologia de les comunicacions sense fils ha experimentat en els darrers anys permet que avui en dia els dispositius mòbils proporcionin una resposta més que acceptable. Ja s'han superat molts dels problemes de mobilitat, d'infraestructura i d'ample de banda que fins ara dificultaven l'ús d'aquests dispositius. Aquest fet ha fomentat l'expansió de diferents sistemes dels que es pot destacar Android, iPhone OS i Windows Mobile/Windows Phone 7. Els dos primers són els que actualment es disputen el lideratge del mercat dels dispositius i aplicacions mòbils i és Android el que ha experimentat el major creixement els darrers anys. Paral·lelament, la constant introducció de programari d'e-learning destinat a activitats de formació no presencial basades en Internet ha permès arribar a milions d'usuaris en diferents àmbits, com ara universitats, empreses i institucions d'arreu del món. D'aquest conjunt de programari destaca Moodle, suite de codi obert que permet crear llocs web de formació en línia de forma senzilla i eficaç.Aquest Projecte de Final de Carrera, emmarcat en l'àrea de Xarxes de Computadors, conjugaaquests tres conceptes mitjançant el desenvolupament d'una aplicació per a dispositius mòbils Android que connecta a un servidor Moodle. La comunicació entre ells utilitza intensivament les xarxes sense fils i fa crides als serveis que aquest ofereix gràcies als Web Services, mètode de comunicacions composat d'un conjunt de protocols i de programari que permet la comunicació entre dos dispositius a través de la xarxa.

Comparison between splenic and lymph node aspirations as sampling methods for the parasitological detection of Leishmania chagasi infection in dogs

The sensitivities of spleen and lymph node cultures for the diagnosis of canine visceral leishmaniasis were compared in 64 anti-Leishmania antibody positive dogs from an endemic area in Brazil. The sensitivity of spleen cultures for Leishmania detection was 97.9%; in lymph node cultures it was 25%. Positive spleen culture was more frequent (p = 0.048, Fisher's exact probability test) in symptomatic (28 out of 33 animals) than in asymptomatic animals (19 out of 31 animals). These results support the use of spleen instead of lymph node aspiration as the choice method for the parasitological diagnosis of the infection.

Toxicity at three years with and without irradiation of the internal mammary and medial supraclavicular lymph node chain in stage I to III breast cancer (EORTC trial 22922/10925).

INTRODUCTION: The EORTC 22922/10925 trial investigated the potential survival benefit and toxicity of elective irradiation of the internal mammary and medial supraclavicular (IM-MS) nodes Accrual completed in January 2004 and first results are expected in 2012. We present the toxicity reported until year 3 after treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: At each visit, toxicity was reported but severity was not graded routinely. Toxicity rates and performance status (PS) changes at three years were compared by chi(2) tests and logistic regression models in all the 3,866 of 4,004 patients eligible to the trial who received the allocated treatment. RESULTS: Only lung (fibrosis; dyspnoea; pneumonitis; any lung toxicities) (4.3% vs. 1.3%; p < 0.0001) but not cardiac toxicity (0.3% vs. 0.4%; p = 0.55) significantly increased with IM-MS treatment. No significant worsening of the PS was observed (p = 0.79), suggesting that treatment-related toxicity does not impair patient's daily activities. CONCLUSIONS: IM-MS irradiation seems well tolerated and does not significantly impair WHO PS at three years. A follow-up period of at least 10 years is needed to determine whether cardiac toxicity is increased after radiotherapy.

Projecte UD-WIFI

La Universitat de Deusto al seu campus de San Sebastià pretén amb aquest projecte gestionar centralitzadament els espais amb cobertura WIFI corresponents a ubicacions concretes i localitzades. Per a això s'acollirà al programa 'Accés a Internet i mobilitat amb WI-FI' promogut per la SPRI (Societat per a la Promoció i Reconversió Industrial), que ofereix subvencions per a la instal·lació de xarxes sense fil amb tecnologia WI-FI ubicades dins de la Comunitat Autònoma de País Basc.

Fluid flow regulates stromal cell organization and CCL21 expression in a tissue-engineered lymph node microenvironment.

In the paracortex of the lymph node (LN), T zone fibroblastic reticular cells (TRCs) orchestrate an immune response by guiding lymphocyte migration both physically, by creating three-dimensional (3D) cell networks, and chemically, by secreting the chemokines CCL19 and CCL21 that direct interactions between CCR7-expressing cells, including mature dendritic cells and naive T cells. TRCs also enwrap matrix-based conduits that transport fluid from the subcapsular sinus to high endothelial venules, and fluid flow through the draining LN rapidly increases upon tissue injury or inflammation. To determine whether fluid flow affects TRC organization or function within a 3D network, we regenerated the 3D LN T zone stromal network by culturing murine TRC clones within a macroporous polyurethane scaffold containing type I collagen and Matrigel and applying slow interstitial flow (1-23 microm/min). We show that the 3D environment and slow interstitial flow are important regulators of TRC morphology, organization, and CCL21 secretion. Without flow, CCL21 expression could not be detected. Furthermore, when flow through the LN was blocked in mice in vivo, CCL21 gene expression was down-regulated within 2 h. These results highlight the importance of lymph flow as a homeostatic regulator of constitutive TRC activity and introduce the concept that increased lymph flow may act as an early inflammatory cue to enhance CCL21 expression by TRCs, thereby ensuring efficient immune cell trafficking, lymph sampling, and immune response induction.

StatusDroid : aplicació d'accés a la xarxa StatusNet per Android

Actualment en el món de les xarxes i el de les aplicacions mòbils està en contínua evolució i cada dia sorgeixen noves idees e implementacions que aprofundeixen en aquests aspectes. Aquest projecte uneix en un mateix desenvolupament tots dos punts presentant una aplicació Android per a connectar-se a la xarxa de microblogging lliure StatusNet.

GPS Sport Sniffer : aplicació de seguiment de rutes GPS desenvolupat en QT i C++

En aquest projecte s'ha dut a terme la implementació d'una aplicació per telèfons mòbils que faciliti el seguiment de rutes GPS d'activitats esportives a l'aire lliure. S'inclou també el vídeo de presentació del projecte final de carrera.

Modelling and Prospects for Audience Measurement of Outdoor Advertising using GPS Devices

The paper describes how to integrate audience measurement and site visibility as the main research approaches in outdoor advertising research in a single concept. Details are portrayed on how GPS is used on a large scale in Switzerland for mobility analysis and audience measurement. Furthermore, the development of a software solution is introduced that allows the integration of all mobility data and poster location information. Finally a model and its results is presented for the calculation of coverage of individual poster campaigns and for the calculation of the number of contacts generated by each billboard.
