Central configurations of nested rotated regular tetrahedra

In this paper we prove that there are only two different classes of central configura- tions with convenient masses located at the vertices of two nested regular tetrahedra: either when one of the tetrahedra is a homothecy of the other one, or when one of the tetrahedra is a homothecy followed by a rotation of Euler angles = = 0 and = of the other one. We also analyze the central configurations with convenient masses located at the vertices of three nested regular tetrahedra when one them is a homothecy of the other one, and the third one is a homothecy followed by a rotation of Euler angles = = 0 and = of the other two. In all these cases we have assumed that the masses on each tetrahedron are equal but masses on different tetrahedra could be different.

Criteria for the Evaluation and Disposition of Low-Traffic-Count Secondary Roads, HR-139, 1969

The State of Iowa has too many roads. Although ranking thirty-fourth in population, twenty-fifth in area, and twentieth in motor vehicle registration, it ranks seventh in the nation in miles of rural roads. In 1920 when Iowa's rural population was 1,528,000, there were 97,440 miles of secondary roads. In 1960 with rural population down 56 percent to 662,000, there were 91,000 miles of secondary roads--a 7 percent decrease. The question has been asked: "Who are these 'service roads' serving?" This excess mileage tends to dissipate road funds at a critical time of increasing public demand for better and safer roads.

Investigation of Video Crack and Patch Surveying for Pavement Management, MLR-92-01, 1992

The Iowa DOT has been using the AASHTO Present Serviceability Index (PSI) rating procedure since 1968 to rate the condition of pavement sections. A ride factor and a cracking and patching factor make up the PSI value. Crack and patch surveys have been done by sending crews out to measure and record the distress. Advances in video equipment and computers make it practical to videotape roads and do the crack and patch measurements in the office. The objective of the study was to determine the feasibility of converting the crack and patch survey operation to a video recording system with manual post processing. The summary and conclusions are as follows: Video crack and patch surveying is a feasible alternative to the current crack and patch procedure. The cost per mile should be about 25 percent less than the current procedure. More importantly, the risk of accidents is reduced by getting the people and vehicles off the roadway and shoulder. Another benefit is the elimination of the negative public perceptions of the survey crew on the shoulder.

Prevalence and dimensions of sexual orientation in Swiss adolescents: a cross-sectional survey of 16 to 20-year-old students.

AIM: Sexual orientation plays an important part in building identity during adolescence. The aim of this study was to describe patterns of sexual orientation, including sexual attraction, fantasies, affiliations and behaviour. METHODS: The study was based on the analysis of data from computerized self-administered questionnaires of a Swiss national survey on the sexual life of 16 to 20-year-old adolescents (n = 2,075 girls and 2,208 boys.). RESULTS: Overall, 95.0% of girls and 96.2% of boys described themselves as predominantly heterosexual; 1.4% of girls and 1.7% of boys as predominantly homosexual or bisexual; and 2.8% of teenagers (girls: 3.6%; boys: 2.1%) were "unsure" of their sexual orientation. The reported prevalence of homosexual attraction (girls: 2.0%; boys: 2.9%) exceeded homosexual fantasies (girls: 0.4%; boys: 0.5%) and affiliations (girls: 0.3%; boys: 0.5%). Among the 4205 respondents, 31 girls (1.5% of girls) and 56 boys (2.5% of boys) reported sexual behaviour (experience or penetrative intercourse) with a person of the same sex. Among 1.5% of girls and 2.5% of boys who reported sexual behaviour with a person of the same sex, 65% of boys and 80% of girls nevertheless considered themselves as heterosexual. CONCLUSION: For a comprehensive understanding of sexual orientation in adolescence a differentiated look at dimensions of sexual orientation is indispensable. This applies to clinical settings, public health and research.

La formation des psychologues conseillères et conseillers en orientation en Suisse

Il existe quatre filières de formation pour les psychologues conseillères et conseillers en orientation scolaire et professionnelle en Suisse. Une d'entre elles est de niveau universitaire et les trois autres sont de niveau post-grade (deuxième ou troisième cycle). Une des filières post-grade est proposée par une Université de sciences appliquées. Tout en étant spécifiques aux régions linguistiques, ces formations rendent compte d'un profil de compétences défini au niveau national. Le modèle théorique qui fonde généralement ces formations est éclectique. L'apprentissage social et la problématique de l'ajustement au contexte sont également des aspects qui constituent cette approche intégrative.
