The objective of this work was to evaluate the common bean response to N application timing, under no-tillage system, after single corn or intercropped with palisade grass. A randomized complete block experimental design was used in a split-plot arrangement, with four replicates. Plots consisted of: single corn crop or corn intercropped with palisade grass, in two summer cropping seasons precedent to common bean sowing. Subplots consisted of: 100 kg ha-1 N application in three times - before sowing, at sowing, and at side-dressing - and a control treatment without N application. Nitrogen fertilization on common bean increased leaf-N content, the number of pods per plant, and grain yield (33% in the average application timing), only in the cropping after single corn. By providing large mass production and by N cycling, the cultivation of palisade grass intercropped with corn reduced N requirement of common bean in succession, in comparison to previous sole corn cultivation. Early N application before or during common bean sowing time provides grain yield similar to the observed one in the side-dressing application.

This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of increasing clomazone (sprayed alone or in mixture with ametryn) drift simulation on quantitative and qualitative aspects of orange production when applied at two developmental plant stages: flowering and initial fruit development (fruits 2 cm diameter or smaller). Increasing drifts of clomazone, in two formulations, and clomazone in mixtures with ametryn were tested. Fruit morphological features, fruit color, flower and fruit abortion and leaf chlorophyll content were evaluated. Simulated drift similar to the recommended dose of clomazone and clomazone plus ametryn caused fruit abortion in citrus at the stage of fruits 2 cm diameter or smaller. Lower drift doses did not result in fruit abortion. Fruit diameter reduction was observed with drift off above 25% of clomazone alone recommended rate and 50% when in mixture with ametryn or in microcapsule formulation. Clomazone drift at 50% of the recommended rate (alone or in mixture with ametryn ) caused clorotic and necrotic spots in the fruit peel. Drift did not affect juice quality in any of the treatments tested.

A serial of factors related to development of glyphosate-tolerant corn should be approached and best studied. This work was developed to evaluate foliar levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, besides the grain yield of glyphosate-tolerant corn (DKB390 RR hybrid). An experiment was carried out under field conditions, during the crop year of 2010/2011. A randomized complete block design with four repetitions was used to distribute the treatments in the field. Twelve herbicide treatments were studied: glyphosate (720, 1200 and sequential application of 960 plus 720 g ha(-1) of the acid glyphosate equivalent), atrazine (2500 g ha(-1)), nicosulfuron (60 g ha(-1)), mesotrione (192 g ha(-1)), tembotrione (100,8 g ha(-1)), atrazine plus glyphosate (1000 + 960 g ha(-1)), atrazine plus nicosulfuron (1000 + 20 g ha(-1)), atrazine plus mesotrione (1000 + 144 g ha(-1)) and atrazine plus tembotrione (1000 + 75,6 g ha(-1)) and one control treatment without herbicide. The glyphosate and mesotrione alone did not cause no visible injury to corn. The other herbicides caused intoxication symptoms classified as light (<5%). The treatments studied did not affect foliar levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Mn and Zn in the corn plants. But, the plants treated with atrazine plus nicosulfuron had more leaf Fe content, and the plants sprayed with glyphosate (in the three doses) and atrazine, more accumulation of Cu in the leaf. The Grain yield of corn was reduced with application single of glyphosate (1200 g ha(-1)), nicosulfuron, tembotrione and with the mixture atrazine plus nicosulfuron.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate changes in chemical characteristics of soil and yield response of lettuce fertilized with organic compounds from waste and/or raw materials. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with five types and four doses of organic compounds, with four replications, applied to plants grown in pots for 35 days under greenhouse conditions. In the soil, the evaluated variables were: organic matter content, nutrient content -P, K+, Na+, Ca2+ and Mg+2, potential acidity (H+ + Al3+), sum of bases (S value), cation exchange capacity (CEC), base saturation (V%) and pH. In plants, dry matter yield of shoot was assessed. The addition of organic compounds increased the dry matter yield of the lettuce and organic matter content in soil, favoring the increase of phosphorus and exchangeable sodium in soil, also, increase in calcium and potassium were observed, with use of some compounds. Compounds 3 (domestic, urban and industrial residues) and 4 (Commercial Composto - Greenworld), mainly, improve the chemical characteristics of soil and reduce potential acidity.
