Construction and decoding of BCH codes over finite commutative rings

BCH codes over arbitrary finite commutative rings with identity are derived in terms of their locator vector. The derivation is based on the factorization of xs -1 over the unit ring of an appropriate extension of the finite ring. We present an efficient decoding procedure, based on the modified Berlekamp-Massey algorithm, for these codes. The code construction and the decoding procedures are very similar to the BCH codes over finite integer rings. © 1999 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

On the construction and labelling of geometrically uniform signal sets in ℤ2 matched to additive quotient groups

We establish the conditions under which it is possible to construct signal sets satisfying the properties of being geometrically uniform and matched to additive quotient groups. Such signal sets consist of subsets of signal spaces identified to integers rings ℤ[i] and ℤ[ω] in ℤ2. © 2008 KSCAM and Springer-Verlag.

Construction and validation of the brazilian questionário de respostas socialmente habilidosas segundo relato de professores (QRSH-PR)

Behavioral problems in preschool children are one of the most frequent motives for seeking psychological care by parents and caregivers. Instruments are considered necessary, created from a Social Skills Training theoretical-practical perspective, which may systematically assist the identification of social skills and behavioral deficits, helping professionals in the prevention and/or reduction of behavioral problems. The purpose of this study was to test the psychometric validity and reliability of an instrument for evaluation of Socially Skilled Responses, from a teacher's perspective (QRSH-PR For this purpose, 260 preschool children were evaluated, differentiated in subgroups without and without behavioral difficulties, based on the Child Behavior Scale (Escala de Comportamento Infantil/ECI-Professor Studies were conducted for construct, discrimination, concurrent and predictive validity. The Cronbach Alpha was calculated to evaluate internal consistency. The obtained results pointed to positive indicators in reference to construct, discrimination, and predictive validity, and even for good internal consistency, indicating that the items consistently measure the construct of social skills, and differentiated children with and without behavioral problems. The questionnaire is considered to be gauged for evaluation of socially skilled responses from preschool children, and applicable in educational and clinical environments. Construction and test of low cost X-ray tomography scanner for physical-chemical analysis and nondestructive inspections

X-ray computed tomography (CT) refers to the cross-sectional imaging of an object measuring the transmitted radiation at different directions. In this work, we describe the development of a low cost micro-CT X-ray scanner that is being developed for nondestructive testing. This tomograph operates using a microfocus X-ray source and contains a silicon photodiode as detectors. The performance of the system, by its spatial resolution, has been estimated through its Modulation Transfer Function - MTF and the obtained value at 10% of MTF is 661 μm. It was built as a general purpose nondestructive testing device. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.

Vectorized algorithms for quadtree construction and descent

This paper presents vectorized methods of construction and descent of quadtrees that can be easily adapted to message passing parallel computing. A time complexity analysis for the present approach is also discussed. The proposed method of tree construction requires a hash table to index nodes of a linear quadtree in the breadth-first order. The hash is performed in two steps: an internal hash to index child nodes and an external hash to index nodes in the same level (depth). The quadtree descent is performed by considering each level as a vector segment of a linear quadtree, so that nodes of the same level can be processed concurrently. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

A novel LTCC electrochemical cell construction and characterization: A detection compartment for portable devices

In this work we described for the first time the construction of a 25 μL electrochemical cell from low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) material and carbon screen-printed electrode applicable in portable devices. Firstly, a carbon screen-printed electrode was prepared and characterized by cyclic voltammetry and scanning electron microscopy. Afterwards carbon polymeric film and metal pastes were dropped into the LTCC cell cavities in order to determine the device electrodes, and this arrangement was also electrochemically characterized. The great advantage of this promising device is the simple construction method and its widespread applicability in reusable portable devices. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Construction and validation of an instrument to assess the reading comprehension of students from the third to the fifth grades of elementary school

Objetivo:Este estudo teve como objetivo construir e validar um instrumento de avaliação da compreensão de leitura a fim de caracterizar o perfil de leitura e detectar dificuldades de compreensão em escolares do terceiro ao quinto ano do Ensino Fundamental.Métodos:Participaram 378 escolares divididos em trés grupos para avaliação da compreensão de proposições literais e inferenciais de micro e macroestruturas de dois textos expositivos e dois textos narrativos por meio de questões de múltipla escolha.Resultados:Os dados analisados estatisticamente indicaram valores do teste alfa de Cronbach apresentando consisténcia interna nos quatros textos aplicados para os trés grupos.Conclusão:Foi possível constatar que os escolares apresentaram menor número de erros com o aumento da escolarização e que cada tipo de texto apresentou uma dificuldade específica para os escolares.

Diagnóstico dos resíduos de construção e demolição: uma contribuição à elaboração e implantação da gestão integrada dos RCD no município de Guaratinguetá – SP

The problem of solid waste has caused discussions about the huge amount that is generated in Brazilian cities, in particular the waste from construction and demolition (CDW), called spoil. In many cases these wastes are disposed of improperly and even criminally in urban areas, causing serious economic, social and environmental problems. Due to the lack of public policies and appropriate management of such waste came up with the CONAMA, in its resolution nº 307 of 2002, the obligation of municipalities in deploy the integrated management of construction and demolition wastes for the resolution of problems caused by inadequate management and disposal of such waste. By following a methodology suggested by Pinto & González (2005), with adaptations of other authors, it is proposed in this work the lifting of a diagnosis of the CDW in the municipality of Guaratinguetá-SP, through theoretical analysis and field research, with purpose to guide the public servants in the elaboration and implementation of integrated management. The results must contain information necessary for that end, such as the knowledge of generators, agents, collectors and transporters, disposition areas and the disposal of waste

Construction and decoding of BCH codes over chain of commutative rings

In this paper, we present a new construction and decoding of BCH codes over certain rings. Thus, for a nonnegative integer t, let A0 ⊂ A1 ⊂···⊂ At−1 ⊂ At be a chain of unitary commutative rings, where each Ai is constructed by the direct product of appropriate Galois rings, and its projection to the fields is K0 ⊂ K1 ⊂···⊂ Kt−1 ⊂ Kt (another chain of unitary commutative rings), where each Ki is made by the direct product of corresponding residue fields of given Galois rings. Also, A∗ i and K∗ i are the groups of units of Ai and Ki, respectively. This correspondence presents a construction technique of generator polynomials of the sequence of Bose, Chaudhuri, and Hocquenghem (BCH) codes possessing entries from A∗ i and K∗ i for each i, where 0 ≤ i ≤ t. By the construction of BCH codes, we are confined to get the best code rate and error correction capability; however, the proposed contribution offers a choice to opt a worthy BCH code concerning code rate and error correction capability. In the second phase, we extend the modified Berlekamp-Massey algorithm for the above chains of unitary commutative local rings in such a way that the error will be corrected of the sequences of codewords from the sequences of BCH codes at once. This process is not much different than the original one, but it deals a sequence of codewords from the sequence of codes over the chain of Galois rings.
