The aim of this study is to analyze the vocalizations of Dendropsophus nanus and its responses to the dominant frequencies of conspecific calls. There were made playback experiments by broadcasting calls of different dominant frequencies towards particular individuals, while their behavioral responses were registered. The results suggest that the playbacks cause behavioral complexity and aggressiveness to increase.

Diversos estudos sobre a biologia reprodutiva dos anfíbios anuros têm sido realizados. Com eles é possível compreender melhor a ecologia desses animais em seu ambiente natural. Desta forma, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo o estudo da biologia reprodutiva da espécie Scinax fuscomarginatus, visando analisar: a) o sítio e turno de vocalização; b) a influência dos fatores bióticos e abióticos na atividade reprodutiva da espécie; c) o comportamento reprodutivo e; d) a distribuição temporal e espacial da espécie. A área de estudos situa-se na represa do Ribeirão Lavapés, localizada na Escola do Meio Ambiente (22º 55’ 23’’S e 48º 27’ 28’’W), Botucatu/SP. A coleta de dados foi realizada de dezembro de 2008 a novembro de 2009. A atividade de vocalização de S. fuscomarginatus ocorreu de dezembro de 2008 a março de 2009. No período de abril a agosto de 2009 a espécie não vocalizou e nenhum indivíduo foi observado na área. A partir do início do mês de setembro a espécie voltou a vocalizar e a ser observada no local. Nos meses de outubro e novembro foi registrada a maior abundância de indivíduos em atividade de vocalização (n=100). O coro era iniciado antes do crepúsculo e o pico de atividade foi entre 20 h e 21 h. Os machos vocalizavam ao redor da represa, geralmente empoleirados na vegetação herbácea. A altura do poleiro variou entre 30 cm e 100 cm. Ressalta-se que muitos machos também foram observados vocalizando no chão. A maioria dos indivíduos observados estava no máximo a 400 cm de distância da margem, externamente ao corpo d’água, porém alguns machos vocalizavam a distâncias maiores. Os girinos de Scinax fuscomarginatus foram localizados nos microambientes de menor profundidade e onde havia maior quantidade de macrófitas e de vegetação ao redor da margem. Acoustic communication is essential in mammals and has three main functions: acquisition of information about the environment, intraspecific communication and detection of predators and prey. Studies indicate that the introduction of sounds produced by anthropogenic activities such as military exercises, use of sonar and activities related to the extraction of oil and natural gas can cause interference in cetacean communication. Recently, the discovery of pre-salt tends to increase these activities. After a decade since the launch date of IBAMA`s licensing and before the imminent increase in exploration activities in Brazil, it is essential to conduct studies to monitor closely the impact of this type of activity on the marine ecosystem. Thus, this study aims to identify potential impacts that the process of oil and natural gas exploration and production might have on the communication of baleen whales. Data from literature on bioacoustics and ecology of these animals were linked with technical-scientific data regarding this type of activity. 310 documents related to the topic were analyzed. Among them only 81 documents are of academic origin, and the others mostly action plans and reports from government agencies. 80% of the documents do not have any species as a focus, and in the remaining 20%, 17% were focused on the Greenland Whale (Balaena mysticetus) and 22% on the gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus). The main impacts identified in this study were the increased frequency and amplitude of vocalization, reduction or cessation of more elaborate songs and masking problems

A musculatura peitoral de anuros gera a potência necessária para a produção das vocalizações, tendo seu perfil histológico descrito para apenas uma espécie. Para esta, a musculatura peitoral apresenta 100% de fibras oxidativas rápidas. Entretanto, a taxa de vocalização apresenta enorme variação interespecífica, mesmo considerando espécies pertencentes a um mesmo gênero, como é o caso do gênero Scinax. Acreditamos que o perfil morfológico e histoquímico da musculatura peitoral, particularmente no tocante à capacidade oxidativa aeróbia, deve covariar com o desempenho aeróbio. Desta forma, o objetivo deste projeto foi realizar uma análise comparativa da morfologia e histoquímica do músculo peitoral de três diferentes espécies de pererecas do gênero Scinax. Os animais foram coletados durante o pico de atividade reprodutiva. Estes foram pesados e eutanaziados para a retirada dos músculos peitorais. Fragmentos musculares foram congelados em nitrogênio líquido e armazenados em freezer -80°C. Cortes histológicos (10μm), obtidos em criostato, foram submetidos à coloração HE (Hematoxilina-Eosina) para avaliação do padrão morfológico das fibras, e NADH-TR (Nicotinamida Adenina Dinucleotídeo-Tetrazólico Redutase), para avaliação do metabolismo oxidativo das fibras. Não houve diferenças qualitativas e quantitativas na morfologia e área das fibras entre as espécies. Provavelmente as diferenças comportamentais interespecíficas devem estar associadas a caracteres ultraestruturais da musculatura como capilarização, volume mitocondrial e tipo de miosina (MHC) presente na fibra muscular. O músculo peitoral de S. perereca e S. fuscovarius apresentou forte reação NADH-TR, o que demonstra alto metabolismo oxidativo, enquanto que Scinax hiemalis apresentou uma população de fibras com metabolismo oxidativo mais moderado; isso está de acordo com dados... The vocals are the most conspicuous means of communication between frogs and can express evolutionary relationships among species. Call descriptions of frogs, in general, not standard acoustic parameters which are greatly diversified and usually restricted to comparisons between closely related taxa. The Atlantic Forest is considered one of the biodiversity hotspots of the world, however, it appears that the number of species to be known is still very large. To anurans from this Brazilian Domain, vocalizations are complex and can vary intra and interpopulations. Thus, we presented a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the work descriptions of anuran advertisement call from the Atlantic Forest, available in the literature so far. The frog species from this Domain and their descriptions of the advertisement call have been raised in the literature, organized into families and threat category IUCN Red List Threatened Species. The analysis of the descriptions were made based on the presence of preset parameters. It was observed that the species which the advertisement call is described within the standard are expected within the Brazilian Atlantic Domain, but efforts to describe the advertisement call of frogs of the Atlantic are concentrated in non-threatened species. Among the descriptions works, there is a large discrepancy between the information presented, giving preference to the use of abiotic data in this kind of work, to the detriment of biotic data about choir where the songs were recorded. The results point to the need for advancements in the descriptions of the advertisement of endangered species or to those with deficient information on their conservation status in the Atlantic Forest, and also for greater communication between works that describe vocalizations of frogs. It will be important to know about the state of the art of descriptions works of frogs in other Brazilian Domains, and relate this information with knowledge...

Natural history studies aim to know where the organisms live, what they do, and their relationships within the environment, including the other organisms. The anurans, among other vertebrates, exhibits the greatest variety of reproductive modes as well as a high complexity of social organization, that may enable a lot of naturalist studies. Anurans modes of organization are direct related to parental care, vocalization of chorus organization, and with males territoriality. In general, the social organization is influenced by species reproductive pattern. This study aim to get information about the natural history of Hypsiboas albopunctatus (perereca-cabrinha) a species of the family Hylidae, on the region of Rio Claro Municipality, São Paulo State, Brazil. The major aspects discussed were: seasonality, spatial distribution, acoustic and visual communication, reproductive mode, reproductive site, abiotic factors influences, territoriality, courtship behaviour, satellite male behavior, embrace and defensive behavior. To obtain this data, nocturnal field excursions were realized monthly. Two sites of Rio Claro county where chosen as studies sites, the sítio Cantaclaro (22o19’36’’S; 47o42’57’’O), on the District of Itapé and Floresta Estadual Edmundo Navarro de Andrade (FEENA) (22o24’58’’S; 47o31’26’’O).

This article aims at the application of semiotic theory of French line to soap advertisements publicized in the magazine O Cruzeiro in the year 1949. Our objective is to reconstruct the women’s figure present in these texts and to establish its relation to the persuasion of the reader who is led to acquire not only the products, but mainly the values hidden in the announced objects. From the theory we use the generative course of meaning, focusing on the discourse level and assimilating the consumption axiologies proposed by each advertisement. Finally, we intend to assimilate the standard behavior of that society post-Second World War.

Inflation targeting regime is a monetary policy adopted by several countries in the 1990s, Brazil being among them, which adopted it in 1999 after a currency crisis. With a theoretical framework inspired by the new-classical theory, this regime is adopted by countries attempting to achieve price stability and it brings the prior announcement of a numerical target for inflation as a key feature. The present work aims at discussing the use of IPCA (Consumer Price Index) as a measuring index for Brazil's inflation after briefly explain the theoretical basis of the IT regime.

Objective: To verify whether the professionals who make use of advertising in Dentistry by means of billboards respect the ethical aspects determined by the Federal Council of Dentistry Resolution No 71, 2006. Methods: This was an observational study in which 178 billboards of dental clinics in the municipality of São Paulo were assessed. Results: Among the billboards analyzed, 91.4% belonged to private persons and 9.6% to corporate bodies. With regard to the ethical aspects related to the advertisement, only 44.9% of the billboards presented all the mandatory items in accordance with the Federal Council of Dentistry. The item found the least number of times in the advertisements was the registration number in the Regional Council of Dentistry (34.8%). Among the items allowed by the Federal Council of Dentistry, the telephone number (65.2%) was the most commonly found. Among the ethical infractions, 1.7% of the billboards advertised the terms of payment. Conclusion: Professionals are not following the ethical precepts established by the Code of Ethics in Dentistry, and awareness of these professionals needs to be aroused, so that information about their services is communicated and divulged in an ethical manner.

The objective of this study was to analyze the business cards used as the initial strategy of marketing Dentists, based on the Code of Dental Ethics, Law No. 5081 / 24/08/1966 and the principles of marketing. It is a cross-sectional study, which evaluated the 54 cards of Dental Clinics of Municipalities of the Northwest Region of São Paulo. Among the cards reviewed, based on the Code of Ethics, only 59.63% contained the registration number in the Regional Council of Dentistry, in 32.22% of the cards noted misuse of the term “general practice”, rather than “GP.” The item was on the cards unless found the specification of the profession Surgeon / Dental Surgeon (57.41%). According to Law No. 5081 / 1966, which regulates dentists, 37.22% of the cards improperly determined that the exercise more than two professional specialty; contained 19.26% of total ad price and terms of service payment. Thus, it appears that business cards are an important means of dissemination of professional work, but some Dentists have neglected ethical and legal principles. Thus, it emphasizes the need for awareness among professionals about the issues related to advertising and marketing.
