Bog manganese was long ago reported from various places in Columbia county (1:54) and it seemed well to reexamine these occurrences. According to W. W. Mather in his report of the First District Survey, 1836-42, " in the counties of Columbia and Dutchess 50,000 tons of manganese could be procured without any great expense, if carefully prepared." He also stated that some of the bog manganese showed on analysis as high as 68.5 per cent manganese oxide and less than 5 per cent silica. At the direction of the State Geologist the writer has devoted most of the summer of 191 7 to this work. The results of this investigation, though not in any way confirming the quantitative results of Mr Mather, are herewith published as a matter of record and as an account of the manner of the occurrence and the genesis of postglacial bog manganese.

So what do you want to know? I was in Paris between ‘75 and ‘78. But about half way through, Sylvère published the Anti-Oedipus issue of Semiotext(e) and, actually, that was for me one of the deciding events that made me decide to come to the United States, to come study at Columbia University. There appeared to be this little group working at Columbia working around these issues. In 1970, in Paris even, Deleuze was a cult – there was an incredibly small number of people following Deleuze... A transcript of my Interview with Kwinter about the Architectural Reception of Deleuze in America, which took place at Jerry’s,' Soho, New York, 15 January 2003. The transcript appeared as an Appendix at the back of my Masters Thesis undertaken at Yale School of Architecture, printed May 2003.

This study identifies a measure of the cultural importance of an area within a city. It does so by making use of origindestination trip data and the bike stations of the bike share system in New York City as a proxy to study the city. Rarely is movement in the city studied at such a small scale. The change in strength of the similarity of movement between each station is studied. It is the first study to provide this measure of importance for every point in the system. This measure is then related to the characteristics which make for vibrant city communities, namely highly mixed land use types. It reveals that the spatial pattern of important areas remains constant over differing time periods. Communities are then characterised by the land uses surrounding these stations with high measures of importance. Finally it identifies the areas of global cultural importance alongside the areas of local importance to the city.
