A 3 T superconducting magnet with a 70 mm diameter warm bore and energy storage of 47 kJ has been successfully fabricated and tested, which can be used to calibrate Hall sensors in high magnetic field as well as conduct superconducting experiments. The magnet consists of three solenoid coils and an iron yoke. The homogeneity of the magnetic field in the region of interest (ROI) is +/- 6.0 x 10(-5). The coils of the magnet were fabricated with NbTi-Cu superconducting wire and the stray magnetic field is shielded by an iron yoke. The coils and yoke are fully immersed in a helium vessel. The optimized structural design, stress and quench simulation, fabrication and test results are presented in this paper.

Bond covalency and valence of elements in HgBa2Can-1CunO2n+2+delta (n = 1, 2, 3, 4) were calculated and their relationship with T-c was discussed. For both oxygen and argon annealed samples, the results indicated that with the increase of n, the trend of bond covalency of Hg-O and Cu-O was the same or opposite compared with that of superconducting temperature. This may suggest that the magnitudes of Cu-O and Hg-O bond covalency are important in governing the superconducting temperature. For the highest T-c sample, Hg had the lowest valence, implying that lower valence of Hg was preferred in order to produce higher T-c. For fixed n, the valence of Cu in oxygen annealed samples was larger than that in argon annealed samples, indicating that oxygen annealed samples produced more carriers than argon annealed samples.
Dependence of superconducting temperature on chemical bond parameters in YBa2Cu3O6+delta (delta=0-1)
Resumo:
The chemical bond parameters, that is ionicities and average energy gaps, for all types of chemical bonds in YBa2Cu3O6+delta have been investigated with variation of oxygen content delta (delta = 0.0, 0.35, 0.45, 0.58, 0.64, 0.73, 0.78, 0.81, 0.95, 1.00). The theory used is the complex crystal chemical bond theory, which is the development of P-V-L theory. The two plateaus near 90 K and 60 K in superconducting transition temperatures, and the disappearance of superconductivity with the change of oxygen content, were reasonably explained by chemical bond parameters. The results also showed that the Cu-O chains play a vital role in the transition from non-superconductors to superconductors, and the highest transition temperature occurred when the plane-chain reached a coupling state. By doping Sb, Ba and In to the Bi-system and with the variation of nominal atomic ratio of Cu, Sr and Ca, a new possible phase is found with T(c) almost-equal-to 105 K, but with a structure of 2212 phase. Effects of post-sintering treatment from air-quenched to O2-annealed were investigated for the approximately 105 K new phase.

We demonstrate a scalable approach to addressing multiple atomic qubits for use in quantum information processing. Individually trapped 87Rb atoms in a linear array are selectively manipulated with a single laser guided by a microelectromechanical beam steering system. Single qubit oscillations are shown on multiple sites at frequencies of ≃3.5 MHz with negligible crosstalk to neighboring sites. Switching times between the central atom and its closest neighbor were measured to be 6-7 μs while moving between the central atom and an atom two trap sites away took 10-14 μs. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.

We show that two qubits can be entangled by local interactions with an entangled two-mode continuous variable state. This is illustrated by the evolution of two two-level atoms interacting with a two-mode squeezed state. Two modes of the squeezed field are injected respectively into two spatially separate cavities and the atoms are then sent into the cavities to interact resonantly with the cavity field. We find that the atoms may be entangled even by a two-mode squeezed state which has been decohered while penetrating into the cavity.

We report the first experimental generation and characterization of a six-photon Dicke state. The produced state shows a fidelity of F=0.56 +/- 0.02 with respect to an ideal Dicke state and violates a witness detecting genuine six-qubit entanglement by 4 standard deviations. We confirm characteristic Dicke properties of our resource and demonstrate its versatility by projecting out four- and five-photon Dicke states, as well as four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and W states. We also show that Dicke states have interesting applications in multiparty quantum networking protocols such as open-destination teleportation, telecloning, and quantum secret sharing.

We draw an explicit connection between the statistical properties of an entangled two-mode continuous variable (CV) resource and the amount of entanglement that can be dynamically transferred to a pair of noninteracting two-level systems. More specifically, we rigorously reformulate entanglement-transfer process by making use of covariance matrix formalism. When the resource state is Gaussian, our method makes the approach to the transfer of quantum correlations much more flexible than in previously considered schemes and allows the straightforward inclusion of the effects of noise affecting the CV system. Moreover, the proposed method reveals that the use of de-Gaussified two-mode states is almost never advantageous for transferring entanglement with respect to the full Gaussian picture, despite the entanglement in the non-Gaussian resource can be much larger than in its Gaussian counterpart. We can thus conclude that the entanglement-transfer map overthrows the

Finite conductivity in superconductors is taken into account by approximate boundary conditions imposed directly when deriving pair summatory equations, which are solved using the Galerkin method and the basis describing the edge singularity.
