Except for a History that is mobilized, nowadays, much more by the supposedly continuities than the changes, the periods of major transitions continue to demand interpretative effort from specialists. It is long the list of those who have been dedicated to the transitional problem between the Antiquity and the Middle Ages, focused on a period of poor and unequally distributed sources, trying to shed light and establish various interpretative means for this phenomenon. Albeit having overcome some of the catastrophic perspectives hindering the pioneer analyses within this context, the current approaches have also eliminated the recognition of both the contradictory manifestations and the social struggles acting as central and fundamental engines of the social transformations within the discussed context. When supported by an adequate theoretical background, documents from the period lead us to a process resulting from contradictions and a scenario of actions and reactions that eventually materialized the conflicts and moved History forward. The transition from the Antiquity to the Middle Ages was encompassed by diverse social antagonist manifestations, which allows us to consider that the arena of disputes were, therefore, that of the society itself.

The work has as objective to produce a look about what we can think as a long history of information, what we think out from the most remote times until its conversion to theástatusáof object of the Information Science (IS) in the second half of 20th century. Of theorical nature and keeping up itself by the literature in IS and in similar areas, a discussion is made about the concept of information to then to list names, happenings and theories that contributed in the passage of the domain of the daily life to the domain of the Science. From a distant past to the most recent happenings connected to the problem of the privacity of the citizens in the digital networks, it is verified in the history of information a closed relation with the power, reason that suggests the deepening of the studies in IS about the political and ethical issues in the contemporary society.

Controversias sociocientíficas para fomentar el pensamiento crítico en docentes

Recientemente la didáctica de la ciencia comenzó a investigar las implicaciones de diseñar actividades sobre controversias sociocientíficas basadas en la argumentación. Algunos resultados de estas investigaciones afirman que se promueve la toma de decisiones informadas, la comunicación de la ciencia, la transferencia de conocimientos a situaciones reales y el pensamiento crítico, entre otras ventajas. El análisis de noticias científicas en los medios de comunicación masiva se ha mostrado como un recurso fructífero para ilustrar las problemáticas que se generan por las interacciones entre ciencia y sociedad. Tal análisis también ayuda a mejorar la comprensión de casos problemáticos atravesados por situaciones argumentativas donde participan distintos actores sociales. El objetivo del presente escrito consiste en analizar los beneficios del uso de las controversias sociocientíficas como herramienta didáctica para robustecer el pensamiento crítico en docentes de ciencia y matemática
