Este estudo caracteriza os processos de exploração vocacional e de ajustamento académico, e os traços de personalidade de estudantes universitários a frequentar o ISLA Leiria. A amostra inclui 115 estudantes, de ambos os sexos (62,6%) mulheres e (37,4%) homens, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e 61 anos, a frequentar o 1º Ciclo do Ensino Superior, no ano letivo de 2010/2011. As medidas aplicadas foram o Career Exploration Survey (CES, Stumpf et al., 1983, versão adaptada por Taveira, 1997), o Academic Adjustment Questionnaire (AAQ; Lent et al., 2005; versão adaptada por Lent & Taveira, 2004) e o Inventário de Personalidade Neo - Revisto (NEOPI-R; Costa & Crae, 1992; versão adaptada por Lima, 1997). Os resultados indicam que a exploração vocacional dos alunos está ativada, ao nível das suas crenças, comportamentos, e reações à exploração, e que estes se encontram envolvidos em objetivos de trabalho. Verificou-se que não existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas nos processos de exploração vocacional em função do sexo dos participantes e em função dos anos que frequentam. Em termos de personalidade os resultados apresentam um nível de Neuroticismo moderado, assim como uma Abertura à Experiencia moderada também. A Conscienciosidade, a Extroversão e a Amabilidade revelam níveis mais positivos. Não são verificados níveis significantes de diferença em função do sexo de pertença ou do anos que frequentam. Relativamente ao Ajustamento Académico o dado mais relevante é a fraca autoeficácia para ultrapassar obstáculos. Aqui também não são registadas alterações em função do sexo de pertença ou do ano que frequentam.

The well-studied link between psychotic traits and creativity is a subject of much debate. The present study investigated the extent to which schizotypic personality traits - as measured by O-LIFE (Oxford-Liverpool Inventory of Feelings and Experiences) - equip healthy individuals to engage as groups in everyday tasks. From a sample of 69 students, eight groups of four participants - comprised of high, medium, or low-schizotypy individuals - were assembled to work as a team to complete a creative problem-solving task. Predictably, high scorers on the O-LIFE formulated a greater number of strategies to solve the task, indicative of creative divergent thinking. However, for task success (as measured by time taken to complete the problem) an inverted U shaped pattern emerged, whereby high and low-schizotypy groups were consistently faster than medium schizotypy groups. Intriguing data emerged concerning leadership within the groups, and other tangential findings relating to anxiety, competition and motivation were explored. These findings challenge the traditional cliche that psychotic personality traits are linearly related to creative performance, and suggest that the nature of the problem determines which thinking styles are optimally equipped to solve it. We followed 100 university students in the UK for one week, instructing them to record all face-to-face, phone and digital contacts during the day as well as their positive and negative affect. We wanted to see how positive and negative affect spread around a social network while taking into account participants’ socio-demographic data, personality, general health and gratitude scores. We focused on the participants’ connections with those in their class; excluding friends and family outside this group. The data was analysed using actor-based models implemented in SIENA. Results show differences between positive and negative affect dynamics in this environment and an influence of personality traits on the average number and rate of communication.

We develop a new measurement scale to assess consumers’ brand likeability in firm-level brands. We present brand likeability as a multidimensional construct. In the context of service experience purchases, we find that increased likeability in brands results in: (1) greater amount of positive association; (2) increased interaction interest; (3) more personified quality; and (4) increased brand contentment. The four-dimensional multiple-item scale demonstrates good psychometric properties, showing strong evidence of reliability as well as convergent, discriminant and nomological validity. Our findings reveal that brand likeability is positively associated with satisfaction and positive word of mouth. The scale extends existing branding research, providing brand managers with a metric so that likeability can be managed strategically. It addresses the need for firms to act more likeably in an interaction-dominated economy. Focusing on likeability acts as a differentiator and encourages likeable brand personality traits. We present theoretical implications and future research directions on the holistic brand likeability concept.

In order to get a better understanding of the interaction between employees and their technical work tools one needs to know what factors influence the interaction. The purpose of this study was to examine if there is a correlation between the personality traits Extraversion (E) and Neuroticism (N), tested with Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI), and experience of the new Intranet among employees at The Swedish National Transport Administration (SNTA), and also to gather information of employees’ opinions about the new Intranet. A survey, containing questions about the Intranet and a personality test (EPI), was posted on SNTA’s Intranet for eight workdays (N = 88, females = 53, males = 35). A Multiple Regression showed no significant correlations between personality traits (E/N) and experience of the new Intranet. Considering the study’s low Power (.34) one cannot draw any conclusions of the statistical tests. A majority of the participants did not think that the new Intranet is better than the old one, and thought it was difficult to find necessary information on the Intranet at first. However, they did not think this had a negative effect on the time it took to accomplish their work tasks. For upcoming studies more participants are required (preferable more than 200) and the survey should not only be available via computers in order to reach people who is not frequent users of computers.

Att medarbetare är av existentiell betydelse för en organisations överlevnad är sedan länge känt. Därmed är rekrytering en av de viktigaste funktionerna inom HR för att attrahera rätt kompetens till organisationen då en misslyckad rekrytering vanligen leder till bortkastad tid och dyra rekryteringsprocesser. Något som kommit att få allt större betydelse vid urvalet och bedömningen av nya medarbetare är kandidaters personlighet. Forskning visar att personlighetsdrag spelar en stor roll när det kommer till framtida arbetsprestationer och förmågan att göra rätt bedömningar av människor är därför central. Teorier om synen på personlighet, kompetens, kompetensbaserad rekrytering och urval samt bedömningsmetoder och personlighetsbedömning används för att analysera studiens resultat. Denna kvalitativa studies övergripande syfte var att öka förståelsen för hur rekryterare bedömer en kandidats personlighet vid en rekryteringsprocess inom bemanningsföretag. Bemanningsföretag är företag som ständigt arbetar med rekrytering och uthyrning av personal, varför ett proaktivt bemanningsarbete krävs för att skapa en konkurrensfördel på marknaden. Inför denna fallstudie kontaktades tre av den svenska bemanningsbranschens största aktörer varav två rekryterare på vardera företag deltog i semistrukturerade intervjuer. Personlighet ansågs generellt som något viktigt som samtliga rekryterare lade stor vikt vid under hela processens gång, från utformandet av kravprofilen till avslutande bedömning. Bedömningen skedde genom såväl test som intervju och referenstagning. Samtliga poängterade vikten av att alltid göra en helhetsbedömning av kandidaten och att det därmed var svårt att vikta exempelvis formella kompetenser mot personliga egenskaper. Resultatet visar att bemanningsbranschens arbete med personlighetsbedömning vid rekrytering utgår ifrån strukturerade bedömningsmetoder. Deras gedigna och proaktiva arbete med rekrytering lever upp till påståendet om att personalen är en organisations viktigaste resurs och vikten av att förstå innebörden av personlighetens betydelse i uttrycket ”rätt person på rätt plats”.

This paper examines two aspects. First, the symbolic dimension of politics and some of the elements that make up this universe, as the scenario, the representation, the myth, the spectacle, the media and the political and electoral marketing. We assume that the policy brings together a set of traits related to both reason and the human subjectivity, and can not be summed up in just a few calculations based on rationality. In the case of elections, in a process (ritual, according Irlys Barrier) of choice, there is a meeting of two systems of representations: to that transmitted by a political actor, in a scene from a particular context, based on a life trajectory unique, and the other from the public, crossed by social relations, situations own wishes, desires, expectations and unique perspectives. Between them there are the means of mass media (especially television), and with them the advent of language media and advertising applied to politics, changing the layout of public visibility and inaugurating what Rejane Accioly Carvalho will call the "aesthetics of mostrabilidade". This does not necessarily mean a preponderance of media on politics as a whole but only its adaptation to that with regard to contact with the public, the ad extra portion of the policy, according to Wilson Gomes. In a second aspect, try to apply these elements to a specific study to verify them in building an effective public image, in this case, the current governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Wilma de Faria. The concept of public image is from the book of Wilson Gomes The transformation was visible in the mass media, and relates to a conceptual image to fix "personality traits" through political history, personal conduct, action of image makers and the public reception. For this we will review some videos aired on Free Time for political propaganda in the years 2002 and 2006.

This work is based on a reflection about my personal and professional background as a teacher and a pedagogical supervisor in two public schools in the municipality of Natal, RN, and how relevant this background is to the development of a proposal of continued formation within the scope of the school, in which a diversity of actionreflection strategies are present. In such contexts, I have identified several of my personality traits as being likely advantages or disadvantages that may contribute or not to the coming up of misunderstanding situations. The self-research experience and the identification of new dimensions of self-evaluation, self-observation and attention serve as a basis to think about the importance of experiencing the understanding within the ambit of the school. The reflections about my actions and those of the teachers bring up the hypothesis that the misunderstandings in the teaching-learning process and in the affective relations are the result of a fragmented, naive and egotistic way of thinking. Thus, they don t contribute to an experience of mutual understanding. That is why there must be an investment on new strategies of self-research and dialogue within the scope of pedagogical meetings that may come to help all educators with the analysis, identification and solving of their own problems as well as the other s. Under this perspective, the question that guides this study assumes the presupposition that the educator can invest in a qualified and meaningful pedagogical formation, either one s own and others , if one has a critical-reflexive overview about oneself and the school s pedagogical process. This research aims to explore, discuss and encourage new reflections about the act of researching in the pedagogical supervisor s role, questioning about the possibility of this action to generate contributions to the process of one s own and other s pedagogical formation within the scope of the school, in a conscientiological perspective, in which the manifestation of the thosenes of the educators are valorized. We approach Paulo Freire (1921-1997), as we see the dialogue as very important to the development of this research work, as well as an encouragement to the consciential dialogue. The empirical research took place from June 4, 2004 to November 11, 2004, with 8 pedagogical meetings and with the participation of 2 pedagogical supervisors and 8 teachers. The application of this new methodology within the scope of pedagogical meetings brought considerable contributions to the interpretation of the elements of the educators thosenes, classified according to the following: uncritical, naïve and critical thoughts; sentiments of assistential or non-assistential affectivity; and actions that may or not make the experience of mutual understanding possible. The experience as a school psychologist allowed me to notice that expressions like I was like trash in the gang s barbecue , and we chatted away, only the girls, and we all got drunk , are very common in conversations between Elementary and High School students, pointing out to a concerning incidence of alcohol consumption among female adolescents. However, studies about this theme haven t gone deep in the nowadays reality these girls are living in. This study aimed at comprehending the aspects of the relation between girls and alcohol, starting from the point that exaggerated consumption indicates introductory rituals for some groups, making social relations easier and becoming a sociability factor. To give this study some support, a questionnaire was applied to 1028 female teenagers, between 12 and 18 years old, students in private schools in Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte. The context chosen for the development of the study - private schools -, arose from the notion that the majority of the data collection carried out about alcohol and other psychotropic drugs aim at public school students. The instrument used was divided in two parts, one that treated about the first contact with alcohol (experimentation), and other that points to the current relation with alcoholic beverages, with 27 closed questions but nevertheless with available space for manifestation like if other; which?, applied collectively in classrooms. The data received a statistic treatment from SPSS and showed that the first contact with alcoholic beverage happens in domestic environment, having parents and friends as companions, very precociously, around 10 years of age, as curiosity. At this moment, Ice drink is the most consumed beverage. The main reason that leads them to drink is to pass the time in parties, and they don t drink alone (93% of students researched), what gives alcohol this recreational and socializing characteristic. They do consider alcohol a kind of drug, but are not afraid of getting addicted. People that drink usually show to be extroverted, they get happier (40,3%) and are not shy at all (29,4%), have attitudes of moral character, like to get involved with unknown boys (18,5%), get numb (9,9%), or get sad (1,9%). They label as vulgar the girls that drink, depending on the amount, and to be stimulated by the boys to drink. The study shows that systematic interventions of the school are necessary, once it is an institution that should care about education and personality traits of children and adolescents, as well as the important role of the psychologist in this context. Besides, it claims the society to get effectively involved with the public policies that already exist

O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar as relações entre habilidades sociais e traços de personalidade englobados por socialização, no modelo dos Cinco Grandes Fatores. O Inventário de Habilidades Sociais (IHS) foi utilizado para a mensuração de habilidades sociais, e para avaliação do nível de socialização foi escolhida a Escala Fatorial de Socialização (EFS). A amostra foi composta por 126 estudantes universitários com média de idade de 21 anos (DP=3,37), e 53,5% eram homens. Os resultados da IHS e EFS foram comparados para os sexos, encontrando-se diferenças estatisticamente significativas para seis das dez medidas realizadas no estudo. Foram encontradas correlações significativas entre amabilidade, auto-afirmação e o total do IHS. Pró-sociabilidade correlacionou-se com auto-afirmação e autocontrole. Confiança nas pessoas apresentou correlações significativas com enfrentamento, auto-afirmação e autocontrole. Os resultados indicam que, efetivamente, a personalidade pode influenciar diferentes aspectos da habilidade social.

Este trabalho apresenta os resultados da experiência de contato com o Arquivo Mário de Andrade, no Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros da Universidade de São Paulo, com vistas a contribuir para a edição de um volume das Obras Completas do autor. A análise de alguns textos do livro em que Mário pretendia reunir suas crônicas críticas demonstra não apenas sua ampla erudição e capacidade de buscar instrumentos de pesquisa, como também aponta a argúcia intelectual, por vezes misturada ao bom humor ou às considerações polêmicas, traços da personalidade do escritor paulistano.

The current studies assessed the role of trait anger and anger expression styles on risk decision-making in adulthood, adolescence and childhood. In the first experiment 158 adults completed the STAXI-2 and an inventory consisting of a battery of hypothetical everyday decision-making scenarios. Participants were also asked to evaluate the perception of risk for each chosen option and some contextual characteristics, that are familiarity and salience for each scenario. The study provides evidence for a relationship between individual differences in the tendency to feel and express anger and risky decisions and for mediation effects of familiarity and salience appraisals. Moreover, results indicated that trait anger was predictive of risk perception and they provide evidence for a positive relationship between risk decision-making and risk perception. In the second study, we examined the relationship between specific components of anger (i.e., cognitive, affective and behavioural) and risk decision-making in adolescents. 101 subjects completed specific tasks, measuring risk decision-making, assessed using hypothetical choice scenarios, and anger, evaluated through the STAXI-CA and the MSAI-R. Results showed that adolescents higher on hostility, anger experience and destructive expression, make more risky decisions in everyday life situations. Moreover, regression analyses indicated that destructive expression of anger and hostility were predictive of adolescents’ risky decisions. In the third experiment, 104 children completed three tasks: the STAXI-CA, the MSAI-R and a task measuring risk decision-making in everyday situations. Subjects were also asked to evaluate the degree of danger, benefit, fun and fear perceived for each risky choice. Analyses indicated that: (a) risk decision-making was predicted by both trait anger and outward expression of anger; (b) destructive expression o anger was predictive of children’s risky decisions; (c) appraisal of danger fully mediated the relation between trait anger and risk; (d) perceptions of benefit, scare and fun partially mediated the relationship between trait anger and risk; and (e) appraisal of danger partially mediated the relationship between outward expression of anger and risk decision-making. The results provide evidence for a relationship between dispositional anger and risk decision-making during childhood, suggesting a possible explanation of the mechanisms below. In particular, risk decision-making can be viewed as the output of cognitive and emotive processes, linked to dispositional anger that leads children to be amused, optimistic and fearless in potentially risky situations. These findings substantiate the importance of incorporating cognitive and emotive factors in theories that seek to explain the relationship between personality traits and risk decision making across a broad range of age.

Rumination, defined as the tendency to think about the negative affect evoked by stressful events, has been identified as potentially playing a role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, recent studies suggest that ruminative thoughts might be mediators of the prolonged physiological effects of stress. The main goal of this research was to study the effect of rumination, evoked in the laboratory, during the subsequent 24 hours. As rumination has been associated with the activity of several physiological systems, including the cardiovascular, endocrine, and immune system, we also aimed at studying the process from a psychoneuroendocrine point of view. Levels of anxiety, depression, anger, hostility, and trait rumination were assessed by the use of validated questionnaires. Impedance cardiography-derived measures, skin conductance, respiration, and beat-to-beat blood pressure (BP) were monitored continuously in 60 subjects during baseline, the Anger Recall Inteview, a reading task and two recovery periods. Half of the sample was randomly assigned to a distracter condition after the Anger Recall Inteview. Cortisol, plasma concentrations of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and inflammatory biomarkers (CRP, sICAM-1) were also obtained at baseline and at the end of the session. Then, all subjects were asked to wear an ambulatory BP monitor for 24 hours. Results show that the distracter was effective in stopping rumination in the laboratory but did not have a long-lasting effect in the subsequent 24 hours. Rumination was associated with prolonged sympathetic activity, vagal withdrawal, cortisol secrection, pro-inflammatory reaction and mood impairment compared to the reading task. After controlling for age and body mass index, rumination also proved to be a strong predictor of daily moods, and ambulatory HR and BP. Personality traits did not have an effect in determining the frequency or duration of daily rumination. Findings suggest that perseverative cognition can prolong stress- related affective and physiological activation and might act directly on somatic disease via the cardiovascular, immune, endocrine, and neurovisceral systems.
