Terence in the Spanish xviiith century: La Andria by Manuel Dequeisne

After an approach to the translation in Spain during the xviiith century, the purpose of this text is to present the almost unknown version of Terence’s Andria (1786) by M. Dequeisne, written in order to substitute Simon Abril’s one. It consists on the theoretical exposition of the prologue, the issue of the retranslation and the own characteristics of the translation itself, along with a comparison with Simon Abril’s version.

Digital archives and cultural memory : discovering lost histories in digitised Australian children's literature 1851-1945

A recent Australian literature digitisation project uncovered some surprising discoveries in the children’s books that it digitised. The Children’s Literature Digital Resources (CLDR) Project digitised children’s books that were first published between 1851 to 1945 and made them available online through AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource. The digitisation process also preserved, within the pages of those books, a range of bookplates, book labels, inscriptions, and loose ephemera. This material allows us to trace the provenance of some of the digitised works, some of which came from the personal libraries of now-famous authors, and others from less celebrated sources. These extra-textual traces can contribute to cultural memory of the past by providing evidence of how books were collected and exchanged, and what kinds of books were presented as prizes in schools and Sunday schools. They also provide insight into Australian literary and artistic networks, particularly of the first few decades of the 20th century. This article describes the kinds of material uncovered in the digitisation process and suggests that the material provides insights into literary and cultural histories that might otherwise be forgotten. It also argues that the indexing of this material is vital if it is not to be lost to future researchers.

Manuel F. Lisan papers 1902-1969

Contains a typescript of memoirs (some sections in several drafts) covering the period until 1907 and describing Lisan's youth in Russia, his journey to America, his early years in Philadelphia, and his travels throughout Pennsylvania. The memoirs also relate in some detail Lisan's Zionist activities in Russia and America and his reaction to world Jewish events. Includes also correspondence covering the years 1902-1969 dealing with Lisan's Zionist activities, as well as announcements (1909-1910) of the Maccabean Zionist Society in Philadelphia and receipts and a Land Certificate from the American Zion Commonwealth and a share certificate from the Jewish Colonial Trust.

Collection consists of several versions of the constitution; minute books of the membership meetings (1852-1856, 1868-1907, 1914-1971; until 1907 in German, afterwards in English); minute books of meetings of the trustees (1852-1858, 1876-1974, until 1912 in German); an index to and summary of the trustees minutes (1927-1944); several anniversary journals starting with the 50th, which was also "the first extant history of the Noah Benevolent Society"; membership books (1861-1892, 1930-1965, until 1892 in German; the books after 1930 contain detailed information concerning each member's age, occupation, family, military service, etc.); financial records (1862-1870, 1964-1967, 1972); quarterly accountant's reports (bound with the membership minutes); monthly financial and statistical reports of the Mordechai Federal Credit Union (March 1959-June 1960) established by the Society; lists and addresses of members; newsletters (1927-1979) and other material and photographs reflecting the Society's activities.

Memoria poética y geografía en Don Juan Manuel

Integran este número de la revista ponencias presentadas en Studia Hispanica Medievalia VIII: Actas de las IX Jornadas Internacionales de Literatura Española Medieval, 2008, y de Homenaje al Quinto Centenario de Amadis de Gaula.

Presbítero Manuel Maximiliano Alberti (1763-1811) : párroco de San Nicolás de Bari y vocal de la Primera Junta. En el bicentenario de su muerte

Resumen: El artículo presenta las sucesivas etapas que configuraron el derrotero del sacerdote patriota en las primeras horas del movimiento independentista. Se destacan tanto los valores de su desempeño ministerial como su ascendencia social y política en el ambiente porteño, con la perspectiva propia de los ideales ilustrados de su tiempo y en particular durante el curato en San Nicolás de Bari, la segunda parroquia m��s importante de la ciudad. Con información bien documentada da cuenta de su nacimiento y de su formación desde sus estudios humanísticos, se reconstruyen los años siguientes dedicados al oficio pastoral de regreso en Buenos Aires y en Maldonado (Uruguay) en tiempos de las invasiones inglesas, su ministerio en San Nicolás de Bari cuando acontece la Revolución de Mayo y su tarea a favor de la causa patriótica desde su participación en el Cabildo Abierto del 22 y su incorporación como vocal de la Primera Junta. Se despliegan los aspectos sobresalientes de esta última misión y los aspectos que se destacan en este recorrido por la vida y la obra de este cura patriota son: compromiso honesto, integridad y actitud de servicio sin reservas desde la función pública.

Ecos de la obra de José Manuel Estrada en el constitucionalismo brasileño de la Primeira República (1889-1930)

Tras la caída del emperador Pedro II, el modelo constitucional argentino inspirado en el pensamiento alberdiano ejerció una fuerte influencia sobre los próceres republicanos brasileños… y doctrinarios argentinos de ese momento, como José Manuel Estrada, fueron apreciados como autoridades intelectuales por los operadores jurídicos...

La visión de la autoridad regia desde la perspectiva de la nobleza rebelde en el Libro del conde Lucanor de don Juan Manuel y Mocedades de Rodrigo

Resumen: El trabajo propone una lectura del ejemplo XXXIIII del Libro del conde Lucanor (“De lo que conteçió a un falcón sacre del infante don Manuel con un águila et con una garça”) que atiende a cómo don Juan Manuel evalúa y discute la figura de autoridad real. Sin embargo, su relación con el rey se entiende como la síntesis de los conflictos entre proyecto nobiliario y proyecto regio, y es enfocada desde la perspectiva ideológica de los grandes señores de Castilla. Al mismo tiempo se intentará una lectura comparada con Mocedades de Rodrigo que trata la misma problem��tica con similar perspectiva ideológica, pero con una resolución diferente del conflicto
