This study compared the effectiveness of the multifocal visual evoked cortical potentials (mfVEP) elicited by pattern pulse stimulation with that of pattern reversal in producing reliable responses (signal-to-noise ratio >1.359). Participants were 14 healthy subjects. Visual stimulation was obtained using a 60-sector dartboard display consisting of 6 concentric rings presented in either pulse or reversal mode. Each sector, consisting of 16 checks at 99% Michelson contrast and 80 cd/m2 mean luminance, was controlled by a binary m-sequence in the time domain. The signal-to-noise ratio was generally larger in the pattern reversal than in the pattern pulse mode. The number of reliable responses was similar in the central sectors for the two stimulation modes. At the periphery, pattern reversal showed a larger number of reliable responses. Pattern pulse stimuli performed similarly to pattern reversal stimuli to generate reliable waveforms in R1 and R2. The advantage of using both protocols to study mfVEP responses is their complementarity: in some patients, reliable waveforms in specific sectors may be obtained with only one of the two methods. The joint analysis of pattern reversal and pattern pulse stimuli increased the rate of reliability for central sectors by 7.14% in R1, 5.35% in R2, 4.76% in R3, 3.57% in R4, 2.97% in R5, and 1.78% in R6. From R1 to R4 the reliability to generate mfVEPs was above 70% when using both protocols. Thus, for a very high reliability and thorough examination of visual performance, it is recommended to use both stimulation protocols.

Q field experiment was carried out at the Gralha Azul Experimental Farm/PUCPR, in the municipality of Fazenda Rio Grande-PR, to evaluate the effect of different times and coexistence extension periods of weeds interfering in corn yield. The experiment was arranged in a complete randomized complete block design and the treatments in a 4x5+2 factorial, with four replications. The treatments were as follows: four initial weed control periods (0-0, 0-7, 0-14 and 0-21 DAE) and five restarted weed control periods until the harvest (28, 42, 56, 70 and 84 DAE) and two checks, weedy and weed-free. The experiment was carried out under a no-till system. The period prior to weed interference (PBWI), the start of the critical period of weed interference (CPWI) and the infesting community were evaluated. When the initial weed control period was 0-0 day, the PPWI was at 9 DAE of corn; however, with increasing initial weed control periods (0-7, 0-14 and 0-21 DAE) the period prior to weed interference inncreased in relation to 0-0 day of the initial weed control, evidencing the existence of PPWI-S of 17, 24 and 28 DAE of corn, respectively. Thus CPWI initiates at the end of PPWI-S, the period when weed control is indispensable to prevent a significant reduction in corn yield. Coexistance with the weeds throughout the crop cycle reduced yield in 15%, compared to the weed-free check. Nine species of seven botanical families were assessed in the infesting community. Reduced density and dry mass were verified in the weeds that coexisted with corn, compared to those that grew without it, thus evidencing a suppressive effect of corn over the infesting plants.

The objective of this study was to identify clones of sugarcane with good stability and adaptability in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and also identifying locations most representative for selection and experimentation. Ten clones and two commercial checks of medium-late maturation were evaluated in the first-ratoon of experiments harvested in August 2009, using bissegmented regression and AMMI (Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction Analysis) methods. The results of two methods were compared and they evidenced that the clones RB975201, RB975157, RB975932, RB975242 and RB975162 are the most promising, showing higher production when compared to the checks, higher stability observed in one or both statistical methods and broader or more specific adaptability. The environment Tarumã presented higher stability and capacity to discriminate genotypes, allowing an ordering more reliable as compared to the overall mean of the environments tested.

The Virgo detector is a kilometer-scale interferometer for gravitational wave detection located near Pisa (Italy). About 13 months of data were accumulated during four science runs (VSR1, VSR2, VSR3 and VSR4) between May 2007 and September 2011, with increasing sensitivity. In this paper, the method used to reconstruct, in the range 10 Hz-10 kHz, the gravitational wave strain time series h(t) from the detector signals is described. The standard consistency checks of the reconstruction are discussed and used to estimate the systematic uncertainties of the h(t) signal as a function of frequency. Finally, an independent setup, the photon calibrator, is described and used to validate the reconstructed h(t) signal and the associated uncertainties. The systematic uncertainties of the h(t) time series are estimated to be 8% in amplitude. The uncertainty of the phase of h(t) is 50 mrad at 10 Hz with a frequency dependence following a delay of 8 mu s at high frequency. A bias lower than 4 mu s and depending on the sky direction of the GW is also present.

This proposed project is to analyze the strategies for building and maintaining relationships, as well as the possibilities of intervention of the public relations in the virtual world. For this purpose, we used the multicase study of beer brands - Devassa, Nova Schin, Heineken, Skol and Brahma - to verify their roles in the communication process in their social media channels. Analyses were based on communication theories covering concepts such as the Excellence in Public Relations, the questioning about the definition of public flashing and discussion about the processes of interaction mediated by the Internet. The evaluation of the channels covered the period of 30 days and that the end of the checks it was found that most brands promote specific actions with surface interconnections between media channels, referring only to the effectiveness of social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Orkut in order to consolidate of relationships

The aim of this work was the development a computer code for simulation and analysis of atomic spectra from databases constructed from the literature. There were created four routines that can be useful for spectroscopic studies in the atomic processes of laser isotope separation. In the first routine, Possible Transitions, the program checks the possible electron transitions from an energy level of the atom present in the database considering the selection rules for an electric dipole transition. The second routine, Locator Transitions, checks the possible electronic transitions within a user-specified spectral region. The routine Spectra Simulator creates simulated spectra using the graphical application gnuplot through lorentzian curve and finally, the routine Electronic Temperature determines the temperature of electronic excitation of the atom, thought the Boltzmann Plot Method. To test the reliability of the program there were obtained experimental emission spectra of a hollow cathode discharge of dysprosium and argon as a buffer gas. The hollow cathode discharge has been subjected to different values of operating currents and pressure of inert gas. The spectra obtained were treated with the assistance of program routines developed (Transition Locator and Spectra Simulator) and temperatures electronic excitation of the atoms of dysprosium in the different discharge conditions were calculated (routine Electronic Temperature). The results showed that the electronic excitation temperature of the neutral dysprosium atoms in the hollow cathode discharge increases with increasing current applied to the cathode and also by increasing the gas pressure buffer. The determination coefficients, R2, obtained by the Electronic Temperature routine using the linear adjust of the Boltzmann Plot Method were greater... The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the effects of three types of physical activity: general physical activity, dance and weight training, in functional capacity in elderly. The sample included 94 seniors with a mean age of 64.06 ± 7.38 years, who participated in PROFIT. For the evaluation we used the battery of test from AAHPERD, which checks the levels of flexibility, coordination, agility and dynamic balance, strength endurance and general endurance before and after four months of intervention. The results indicated a maintained in the levels of functional components. The participants general physical activity group had better results on the components: strength endurance, agility and dynamic balance. It can be concluded that the practice of regular physical activity and systematized, regardless of the type may have a positive influence on the functional performance of elderly and can preserve their independence and autonomy.
