A novel synthetic approach to biodegradable amphiphilic copolymers based on poly (epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and chitosan was presented, and the prepared copolymers were used to prepare nanoparticles successfully. The PCL-graft-chitosan copolymers were synthesized by coupling the hydroxyl end-groups on preformed PCL chains and the amino groups present on 6-O-triphenylmethyl chitosan and by removing the protective 6-O-triphenylmethyl groups in acidic aqueous solution. The PCL content in the copolymers can be controlled in the range of 10-90 wt %. The graft copolymers were thoroughly characterized by H-1 NAM, C-13 NMR, FT-IR and DSC. The nanoparticles made from the graft copolymers were investigated by H-1 NMR, DLS, AFM and SEM measurements. It was found that the copolymers could form spherical or elliptic nanoparticles it? water. The amount of available primary amines on the surface of the prepared nanoparticles was evaluated by ninhydrin assail, and it can be controlled by the grafting degree of PCL.

The quasiliving characteristics of the ringopening polymerization of epsilon-caprolactone (CL) catalyzed by an organic amino calcium were demonstrated. Taking advantage of this feature, we synthesized a series of poly (F-caprolactone) (PCL)-poly(L-lactide) (PLA) cliblock copolymers with the sequential addition of the monomers CL and L-lactide. The block structure was confirmed by H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR, and gel permeation chromatography analysis. The crystalline structure of the copolymers was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis. When the molecular weight of the PLA block was high enough, phase separation took place in the block copolymer to form PCL and PLA domains, respectively.

The synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched aromatic poly(ester-imide)s are described. A variety of AB(2) monomers, N-[3- or 4-bis(4-acetoxyphenyl)toluoyl]-4-carboxyl-phthalimide and N-{3- or 4-[1,1-bis(4-acetooxyphenyl)]ethylphenyl}-4-carboxy phthalimides were prepared starting from condensation of nitrobenzaldehydes or nitroacetophenones with phenol and used for synthesis of hyperbranched poly(ester-imide)s containing terminal acetyl groups by transesterification reaction. These hyperbranched poly(ester-imide)s were produced with weight-average molecular weight of up to 6.87 g/mol. Analysis of H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy revealed the structure of the four hyperbranched poly(ester-imide)s. These hyperbranched poly(ester-imide)s exhibited excellent solubility in a variety of solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and tetrahydrofuran and showed glass-transition temperatures between 217 and 255 degreesC. The thermogravimetric analytic measurement revealed the decomposition temperature at 10% weight-loss temperature (T-d(10)) ranging from 365 to 416 degreesC in nitrogen.

A series of new PPV oligomers containing 8-substituted quinoline, 2,2'-(arylenedivinylene) bis-8-quinoline derivatives, were designed and synthesized via a Knoevenagel condensation reaction of quinaldine, 8-hydroxy-or 8-methoxy-quinaldine with aromatic dialdehydes. These PPV oligomers were characterized by H-1 and C-13-NMR, X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies. The X-ray diffraction investigation showed that there are intermolecular pi...pi interactions in the solid state in 1 and 3. The optical and photoluminescent properties study demonstrated that the emission color of the resulting materials varies from blue to yellow and is dependent on the substituents (pi-donor and pi-acceptor groups) on both sides of the conjugated molecules and the aromatic core in the middle of the conjugated backbones. The electroluminescent devices using compounds 1-4 as the emitters and electron-transporting layers were fabricated with the structure ITO/NPB/emitter/LiF/Al. The best device performance with the maximum brightness of 5530 cd m(-2) and the luminous efficiency of 2.4 cd A(-1) is achieved by using compound 4, with intramolecular charge transfer character, as the emitter; these values represent a more than 5-fold improvement in brightness and efficiency compared to compound 3 without methoxy groups on the phenyl rings.

An amino isopropoxyl strontium (Sr-PO) initiator, which was prepared by the reaction of propylene oxide with liquid strontium ammoniate solution, was used to carry out the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters to obtain aliphatic polyesters, such as poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(L-lactide) (PLLA). The Sr-PO initiator demonstrated an effective initiating activity for the ROP of epsilon-caprolactone (epsilon-CL) and L-lactide (LLA) under mild conditions and adjusted the molecular weight by the ratio of monomer to Sr-PO initiator. Block copolymer PCL-b-PLLA was prepared by sequential polymerization of epsilon-CL and LLA, which was demonstrated by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and gel permeation chromatography. The chemical structure of Sr-PO initiator was confirmed by elemental analysis of Sr and N, H-1 NMR analysis of the end groups in epsilon-CL oligomer, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The end groups of PCL were hydroxyl and isopropoxycarbonyl, and FTIR spectroscopy showed the coordination between Sr-PO initiator and model monomer gamma-butyrolactone. These experimental facts indicated that the ROP of cyclic esters followed a coordination-insertion mechanism, and cyclic esters exclusively inserted into the Sr-O bond.

To synthesize the copolyester of poly(beta-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL), the transesterification of PHB and PCL was carried out in the liquid phase with stannous octoate as the catalyzer. The effects of reaction conditions on the transesterification, including catalyzer concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time, were investigated. The results showed that both rising reaction temperature and increasing reaction time were advantageous to the transesterification. The sequence distribution, thermal behavior, and thermal stability of the copolyesters were investigated by C-13 NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The transesterification of PHB and PCL was confirmed to produce the block copolymers. With an increasing PCL content in the copolyesters, the thermal behavior of the copolyesters changed evidently. However, the introduction of PCL segments into PHB chains did not affect its crystalline structure. Moreover, thermal stability of the copolyesters was little improved in air as compared with that of pure PHB.

The transesterification of poly(beta-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) was carried out by using stannous octoate as catalyzer in liquid phase. The sequence distribution, crystallization behavior and thermal stability of PHB-co-PCL copolyesters were studied by C-13-NMR, FTIR, DSC, WAXD and TGA. The results showed that the transesterification of PHB with PCL was confirmed to produce a block copolymer, and enhancing reaction temperature and increasing reaction time were advantageous to the transesterification. With the increase in PCL content in the block copolymer, the crystallization behavior of PHB-co-PCL copolyesters changed evidently. On the other hand, the introduction of PCL segment into PHB chains did not change its crystalline structure; moreover, thermal stability of PHB-co-PCL copolyesters was a little improved in air, comparing with that of pure PHB.

The anion of MeO2CCH2CH2SnCl4 - was obtained by decomposing the yellow solution of MeO2CCH2CH2SnCl3.(2-OHC6H4CH=NC6H5) by standing for 15 days, which is the product of 3-methoxy-carbonylethyltin trichlorides with Schiff base (2-OHC6H4CH=NC6H5). The title compound was characterized by elemental analysis, IR. H-1 NMR,C-13 NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal of the title compound belongs to orthorhombic system, space group P2cn, a=7.852(2), b=12.236(1),c=16.952(4)Adegrees, V=1628.7 Angstrom(3), Z=4, D-c=1.79g/cm(3) F(000)=860, mu=22.2cm(-1), R=0.0449, Rw=0.0382. The title compound exists as a discrete molecule, and the tin atom attains a distorted octahedral geometry via the coordination of intramolecular carbonyl oxygen and chloride ion. The coordination number of tin atom is 6.

A new kind of aromatic diaminospirodilactone, i.e. 6,6'-diamino-3, 3'-spirobiphthalide, was synthesized through multistep reactions from p-nitrotoulene and paraformaldehyde, It was: found that dinitrospirolactone could be synthesized directly in the acid system through oxidation reaction with a high yield, The increase of solvent polarity leads to an increase of reduction yield of dinitrolactone. The resulting intermediates 6, 6'-dihydroxylamino-3, 3'-spirobiphthalide and 6-amino-6'-hydroxylanimo-3, 3'-spirobiphthalide were steady aromatic hydroxylamine. The structures of 6, 6'-diamino-3, 3'-spirobiphthalide and its intermediates were confirmed by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, MS, IR and elemental analyses.

The heterobimetallic complexes Cp * Rh(CN Bu-t)(EC5H4)(2)Fe [E = S(2),Se(3), Te(4)] have been synthesized by the reaction of halfsandwich rhodium complex Cp * Rh(CNtBu) Cl-2 with Fe(C5H4ELi)(2). 2THF. Oxidation of 2,3 by AgBF4 to give ferrocenium - type salts [Cp * Rh(CNtBu) (EC5H4)(2)Fe] (+) [BF4] (-) [E = S(5),Se(6)] also occurs readily. The new complexes have been characterized by MS IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

Three title compounds were prepared and the structure of title compound 2 was characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR spectroscopy and the crystal structure of compound 2a was determined by X-ray analysis with the final R indices[I >2 sigma (I)] R-1 = 0.0350 and R-2,R-omega = 0.0888. The crystal of compound 2a belongs to triclinic system, space group P1 with a = 1.0598(6) nm, b = 1.307 4(10) nm, c = 1.378 6(10) nm, alpha = 62.666(7)degrees, beta = 72.530(2)degrees, gamma = 80. 680(2)degrees, V = 1.618 0 nm(3), D-x = 1. 444 g (.) cm(-3), Z = 1, F (000) = 728. The bond length of Sn1-O1 is 0. 2076 nm and Sn1 . . . O2 distance is 0.301 3 nm. The coordination about the tin atom can be considered as a distorted tetrahedral. The detail values of H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR, (2)J(119Sn-1H) and J(119Sn-13C) were obtained. delta (119Sn) = 23.836, (2)J(119Sn-1H) = 88.0 Hz, (1)J(119Sn-13C) = 347.1 Hz, (2)J(119Sn-13C) = 45.6 Hz.

The title compound, [H3PMo12O40][CO(NH2)(2)](3). 5H(2)O, was synthesized and characterized by IR, C-13 NMR and X-ray diffraction. This is the first example of a urea-heteropoly acid species. Crystal data: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 17.790(4) Angstrom, b = 17.158(3) Angstrom, e = 25.512(5) Angstrom, beta = 100.65(3)degrees, V = 8514(3) Angstrom (3), Z = 6, R-1 = 0.0437, wR2 = 0. 1092. In the unit cell, the urea molecules occupy cavities in the polyoxometalate lattice ordered along b-axis. Water molecules occupy the space left by polyoxometalates, and urea. The chain structure, spherulite morphology, and theological property of LL-DPE-g-AA were studied by using electronspray mass spectroscopy, C-13-NMR, and rheometer. Experimental evidence proved that AA monomers grafted onto the LLDPE backbone formed multiunit AA branch chains. It was found that AA branch chains could hinder movement of the LLDPE main chain during crystallization. Spherulites of LLDPE became more anomalous because of the presence of AA branch chains. Rheological behavior showed that AA branch chains could act as an inner plasticizer at the temperature range of 170-200 degreesC, which made LLDPE-g-AA easy to further process. A series of novel polyarylethersulfone (AB)(n) block copolymers with different segment lengths have been synthesized by nucleophilic solution polycondensation of phenoxide-terminated and fluorine-terminated oligomers; random copolymers have been prepared over the whole composition ranges. The structures of the resultant copolymers have been confirmed by FTIR, C-13 NMR spectra and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Compared with two homopolymers and random copolymers, the block copolymers of this study possess excellent thermal stability (5% thermal decomposition under nitrogen atmosphere above 500 C) and high glass transition temperatures, and have a wide melt-processing temperature range. They may become a new class of mouldable high performance thermoplastics. (C) 2001 Society of Chemical Industry.

The (1) H and C-13 NMR spectra are reported for Ru(4, 4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridene)(2) (2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid) (PF6)(2) that can be used as a new electrochemiluminescent probe in immunoasssay and nucleic acid hybridization assay. Because of the effect ol:Ru atom ligands and complex steric configuration, it is difficult to attribute spectra of the title molecular, By using 2D (1) H-(1) H COSY and (1) H-C-13 HETCOR method, the proton and C-13 NMR spectra are assigned completely, which provides a satisfactory method to quantitative and qualitative, analysis of the title moleculer in the further study.
