Spaces with Noetherian cohomology

Is the cohomology of the classifying space of a p-compact group, with Noetherian twisted coefficients, a Noetherian module? This note provides, over the ring of p-adic integers, such a generalization to p-compact groups of the Evens-Venkov Theorem. We consider the cohomology of a space with coefficients in a module, and we compare Noetherianity over the field with p elements, with Noetherianity over the p-adic integers, in the case when the fundamental group is a finite p-group.

Redescription of Tejidotaenia appendiculata (Baylis, 1947) (Cestoda: Proteocephalidea), a parasite of Tupinambis teguixin (Sauria: Teiidae) from South America

The species Tejidotaenia appendiculata (Baylis, 1947), a parasite found in teju, Tupinambis teguixin is redescribed and a new diagnosis is provided. The species is characterized by the anterior position of the ovary and the peculiar shape of suckers. It is the first record of this species in Brazil.

Plasmodium yoelii: identification of a gene encoding a putative ADP-ribosylation factor-1 GTPase-activating Protein, PyAG1

The PyAG1 gene, identified by the screening of a Plasmodium yoelii genomic DNA library with a rhoptry-specific Mab, encodes a protein with a zinc finger structure immediately followed by the consensus sequence of the Arf GAP catalytic site. The serum of mice immunized with the recombinant protein recognized specifically the rhoptries of the late infected erythrocytic stages. Blast analysis using the Genbank database gave the highest scores with four proteins presenting an Arf1 GAP activity. If presenting also this activity, the PyAG1 protein could be involved in the regulation of the secreted protein vesicular transport and, consequently, in the rhoptry biogenesis.

Fipronil Insecticide: Novel Application against Triatomine Insect Vectors of Chagas Disease

We investigated the efficacy and the residual effect of fipronil® against two species of triatomine bugs, Triatoma infestans and Rhodnius neglectus, in laboratory conditions measuring concentration-response and residual activity on different surfaces (dried mud and lime coated mud). Lethal concentrations (LC50,90) were determined on filter paper. The higher insecticide efficacy against R. neglectus when compared to T. infestans may be partially attributed to the differences in their biological cycles and genetic structures. Comparison with lambdacyhalothrin wettable powder showed that fipronil mortality rates (above 50%) were observed on mud blocks and lime-coated mud blocks up to 3 months when fipronil was sprayed at 100 and 200 mg a.i./m². Residual effect deeply decayed after 3 months; and at 6 months post treatment mortality was not observed. In contrast, lambdacyhalothrin showed a long lasting residual effect on both surfaces up to 6 months. Also, it should be mentioned that fipronil had a slow, but lethal activity on the triatomine bugs when wettable formulations were used on porous surfaces.

Redescription of Travassiella avitellina Rego & Pavanelli, 1987 (Proteocephalidea: Monticelliidae, Zygobothriinae), a parasite of Paulicea luetkeni (Siluriformes) from South America

The genus Travassiella Rego & Pavanelli, 1987 comprises only one species, T. avitellina Rego & Pavanelli, 1987; characterized by these authors on the basis of absence of vitelline follicles. In this study, the presence of cortical vitelline follicles in this species is confirmed after de Chambrier and Vaucher (1999); the redescription was performed for the first time based on type and new material collected from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Travassiella is confirmed as a valid genus, and compared to other genera of the subfamily Zygobothriinae. T. avitellina is characterized by: (1) the presence of gland cells posteromedially to suckers; (2) the particular distribution of vitelline follicles, forming lateral arches; (3) uterine primordium cortical, growing into medulla and forming a sac-like uterus; (4) eggs, irregularly oval, outer envelop with excrescences and two digitate lappets in one of the poles.

Prothèses totales d'épaules inversées : récupérer la fonction en cas d'incompétence de la coiffe des rotateurs

Les principales caractéristiques biomécaniques de la prothèse inversée (cupule sur le versant huméral et sphère sur le versant scapulaire), cet implant semi-contraint, consistent en une médialisation ainsi qu'un abaissement du centre de rotation. Par ce biais, le bras de levier du deltoïde est augmenté. Les fibres musculaires du deltoïde antérieur et postérieur sont ainsi également recrutées pour devenir principalement abducteur. La congruence relative des composants (semi-contrainte) confère également à la prothèse inversée une certaine stabilité primaire, importante pour pallier la déficience de la coiffe des rotateurs (sus-épineux).
