Cultural practices alter patterns of crop growth and can modify dynamics of weed-crop competition, and hence need to be investigated to evolve sustainable weed management in dry-seeded rice (DSR). Studies on weed dynamics in DSR sown at different times under two tillage systems were conducted at the Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. A commonly grown fine rice cultivar 'Super Basmati' was sown on 15th June and 7th July of 2010 and 2011 under zero-till (ZT) and conventional tillage (CONT) and it was subjected to different durations of weed competition [10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 days after sowing (DAS) and season-long competition]. Weed-free plots were maintained under each tillage system and sowing time for comparison. Grassy weeds were higher under ZT while CONT had higher relative proportion of broad-leaved weeds in terms of density and biomass. Density of sedges was higher by 175% in the crop sown on the 7th July than on the 15th June. Delaying sowing time of DSR from mid June to the first week of July reduced weed density by 69 and 43% but their biomass remained unaffected. Tillage systems had no effect on total weed biomass. Plots subjected to season-long weed competition had mostly grasses while broad-leaved weeds were not observed at harvest. In the second year of study, dominance of grassy weeds was increased under both tillage systems and sowing times. Significantly less biomass (48%) of grassy weeds was observed under CONT than ZT in 2010; however, during 2011, this effect was non-significant. Trianthema portulacastrum and Dactyloctenium aegyptium were the dominant broad-leaved and grassy weeds, respectively. Cyperus rotundus was the dominant sedge weed, especially in the crop sown on the 7th July. Relative yield loss (RYL) ranged from 3 to 13% and 7 to16% when weeds were allowed to compete only for 20 DAS. Under season-long weed competition, RYL ranged from 68 to 77% in 2010 and 74 to80% in 2011. The sowing time of 15th June was effective in minimizing weed proliferation and rectifying yield penalty associated with the 7th July sowing. The results suggest that DSR in Pakistan should preferably be sown on 15th June under CONT systems and weeds must be controlled before 20 DAS to avoid yield losses. Successful adoption of DSR at growers' fields in Pakistan will depend on whether growers can control weeds and prevent shifts in weed population from intractable weeds to more difficult-to-control weeds as a consequence of DSR adoption.

The Birth of the Minority State Church Development of the legal relationship between the state of Finland and the Finnish Orthodox Church 1917 1922 Mika Nokelainen, University of Helsinki, Finland. The present research seeks to explain how the legal relationship developed between the state of Finland and the Orthodox Church of Finland. The main focus is on three statutes: 1) the Statute of the Orthodox Church in Finland as stated by Prime Minister J. K. Paasikivi s cabinet in November 1918, 2) The Republican Constitution of July 1919 and 3) The Freedom of Religion Act of 1923. This study examines how different political goals influenced the three statutes mentioned above. Another important factor that is taken into account is the attitude of the Lutheran Church of Finland, the church of the national majority, towards the Orthodox minority and its judicial position in the country. Finland became independent in December 1917, in the aftermath of the November Revolution in Russia. The Orthodox Church already had hundreds of years of history in Finland. In the 19th century, several statutes by emperors of Russia had made the Orthodox Church an official state church of Finland. Due to the long history of the Orthodox Church in Finland, Prime Minister Paasikivi s cabinet made the decision to support the church in the spring of 1918. Furthermore, the cabinet s goal to occupy East Karelia increased its willingness to support the church. The Finnish-national Orthodox Church was needed to educate the East-Karelians. A new statute on the Orthodox Church in Finland came into force in November 1918, reorganising the administration, economy and legal relationship between the church and state in Finland. With this statue, the cabinet gained some authority over the church. Sections of this statute made possible, for example, the cabinet s interference in the internal affairs of the church. The Republican Constitution of 1919 included the principle of freedom of religion. The state, which previously had been Lutheran, now became non-denominational. However, the Republican Constitution explicitly mentioned the Lutheran as well as the Orthodox Church, which indirectly confirmed the position of the Orthodox Church as the second state church of Finland. This position was finally confirmed by the Freedom of Religion Act in 1923. In general, the Lutheran Church of Finland did not resist the judicial position of the Orthodox Church. However, some Lutherans regarded the Orthodox Church with suspicion because of its intimate connection with Russia.

Analisa os mecanismos referentes ao controle das despesas obrigatórias de caráter continuado: o mecanismo de compensação, que tem suas origens no denominado "pay-as-you-go" implantado com o "Budget Enforcement Act" norte-americano, e o demonstrativo de margem de expansão. A análise da evolução histórica dessa categoria de despesas para a União evidencia que os mecanismos de compensação utilizados não permitiram o controle efetivo do aumento dessas despesas, inviabilizando o direcionamento de recursos para ações que impliquem garantia de desenvolvimento sustentável. A discussão sobre os conceitos de despesas obrigatórias de caráter continuado, dos mecanismos de compensação e dos objetivos da apresentação de um demonstrativo de estimativa de margem de expansão indica a necessidade de uma reavaliação e aprofundamento, baseados nos objetivos originais da Lei de Responsabilidade Fiscal, a fim de se ampliar a eficácia de tais mecanismos. Por fim, o trabalho propõe um novo modelo para a apresentação do demonstrativo de estimativa de margem de expansão de despesas obrigatórias de caráter continuado, que possibilite a utilização de uma terminologia adequada, a identificação de fontes e valores dos parâmetros empregados na previsão de receitas e despesas e a avaliação comparativa entre os valores estimados e aqueles realmente executados nos dois exercícios anteriores.

This document presents the results of the monitoring of a repaired coral reef injured by the M/V Jacquelyn L vessel grounding incident of July 7, 1991. This grounding occurred in Florida state waters within the boundaries of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS). The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund of the State of Florida, (“State of Florida” or “state”) are the co-trustees for the natural resources within the FKNMS and, thus, are responsible for mediating the restoration of the damaged marine resources and monitoring the outcome of the restoration actions. The restoration monitoring program tracks patterns of biological recovery, determines the success of restoration measures, and assesses the resiliency to environmental and anthropogenic disturbances of the site over time. The monitoring program at the Jacquelyn L site was to have included an assessment of the structural stability of installed restoration modules and biological condition of reattached corals performed on the following schedule: immediately (i.e., baseline), 1, 3, and 6 years after restoration and following a catastrophic event. Restoration of this site was completed on July 20, 2000. Due to unavoidable delays in the settlement of the case, the “baseline” monitoring event for this site occurred in July 2004. The catastrophic monitoring event occurred on August 31, 2004, some 2 ½ weeks after the passage of Hurricane Charley which passed nearby, almost directly over the Dry Tortugas. In September 2005, the year one monitoring event occurred shortly after the passage of Hurricane Katrina, some 70 km to the NW. This report presents the results of all three monitoring events. Trata-se de um estudo que teve como objeto as incapacidades definitivas para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil com o seguinte problema de pesquisa: quais as causas das incapacidades definitivas para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil, no 1 Distrito, nos períodos de cinco e dez anos de vigência do Programa de Atenção às Doenças Profissionais (PADP)? Considerando o interesse na temática e a especificidade do objeto de estudo selecionou-se como objetivo geral: discutir as incapacidades definitivas para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil, no período de cinco e dez anos após a implantação do PADP no 1 Distrito. E, como objetivos específicos: analisar o perfil dos militares considerados incapacitados para o serviço, na área do 1 Distrito da Marinha do Brasil, no ano de 2005 e no ano de 2010; identificar as incapacidades definitivas para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil no ano de 2005 e 2010 ocorridas no 1 Distrito e; propor adequações ao PADP baseadas no resultado deste estudo. Baseou-se no modelo de pesquisa não experimental, retrospectivo e documental. Foi utilizada como técnica de trabalho a abordagem quantitativa e descritiva, através de um estudo documental dos registros de incapacidades definitivas para o serviço ocorridas no 1 Distrito da Marinha do Brasil no ano de 2005 e no ano de 2010, respectivamente 05 e 10 anos após a implantação do PADP. O local do estudo foi o Centro de Perícias Médicas da Marinha (CPMM), estrutura organizacional central do Subsistema Médico Pericial, situado no Complexo do Hospital Central da Marinha. Os dados foram coletados durante os meses de julho e agosto do ano de 2011, no Sistema Informatizado Naval de Inspeções de Saúde (SINAIS), não sendo realizado qualquer contato com os militares considerados incapacitados para o serviço, que fizeram parte deste estudo. Utilizou-se um formulário fechado para o registro dos dados que posteriormente foram digitalizados e computados por meio de análise percentual, utilizando-se o programa Microsoft Excel 2007. Posteriormente, foram demonstrados em tabelas e gráficos, sendo discutidos à luz do referencial teórico da Saúde do Trabalhador e sustentado por bases conceituais. Para melhor apresentação dos dados, estes foram organizados a partir dos seguintes temas: perfil dos militares considerados incapacitados para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil, as principais incapacidades e suas correlações com o trabalho e, propostas ao Programa de Atenção às Doenças Profissionais da Marinha. O estudo viabilizou sugestões de melhorias na aplicação do PADP, visando à redução do número de casos de incapacidades para o serviço na Marinha do Brasil.

Abstract The spawning activities of cod were described in the Arkona Sea from 2009 to 2012 and were compared with estimates of the period 1992 – 1999. Cod spawned mainly from beginning of June till the middle of July every year. In the same period spawning was observed in the Bornholm Sea. The spawning activities in July were limited by water temperature above the critical limits. Spawning activities in spring which were observed in the 90 ties were of lower importance between 2009 and 2012. Higher proportions of spent cod were observed in the Arkona Sea in August and autumn between 2009 and 2012 compared to the earlier period, indicating immigration of cod from the Bornholm Sea after spawning. The study showed that higher proportion of cod with developing sex products were observed in the Arkona Sea between 2009 and 2012 compared to the 90 ties. Kurzfassung Die Laichaktivitäten der Dorsche in der Arkonasee werden für den Zeitraum 2009 – 2012 dargestellt und im Vergleich mit dem Zeitraum 1992 – 1999 diskutiert. Die Hauptlaichaktivitäten haben im Untersuchungszeitraum von Anfang Juni bis Mitte Juli stattgefunden und lagen damit in ihrem jahreszeitlichen Verlauf innerhalb der Zeitperiode der Laichaktivitäten in der angrenzenden Bornholmsee. In der Arkonasee wurden jeweils im Juli diese Ereignisse durch ansteigende Wassertemperaturenbegrenzt. Die, noch in den 90-er Jahren beobachteten, Laichaktivitäten im Frühjahr haben aktuell an Bedeutung verloren. Im Spätsommer und Herbst war ein, im Vergleich zu den 90-er Jahren, höherer Anteil an abgelaichten Tieren in der Arkonasee zu beobachten, der als Indiz für eine Zuwanderung von abgelaichten Dorschen aus der Bornholmsee gewertet wird. Insgesamt hat der Anteil an Tieren mit sich entwickelnden Geschlechtsprodukten (aktive Laicher) im Untersuchungszeitraum, im Vergleich zu den 90-er Jahren, zugenommen.

This is the River Exe Fisheries Survey 1966-1967 by the Devon River Authority. This is the fifth Fisheries Survey to be carried out in the initial series, other surveys having been carried out on the Rivers Teign, Torridge, Dart and Erme. The object of the survey was to examine the distribution and relative abundance of salmonid fish in the river system, in order to assess the possibility, or desirability, of increasing salmon smolt production of the river by artificial propagation or other means. The survey was carried out from middle May to end of July in 1966 when further survey work was prevented by high water levels, and from the end of June to the end of September in 1967. It contains a brief introduction of general aspects of the catchment, chemistry, pollution, biology and fisheries in the river, methodology that looks at the selected transects and techniques for sampling, results and recommendations. The results goes through totals of all salmonid fish caught, adults, parrs and estimations of parr population individually for salmo salar and salmo trutta. Maps with survey sections and fish indices along with tables with size distributions and totals of salmonids found are attached.

This is the River Camel Salmon Action Plan produced by the Environment Agency in 2002. The report focuses on the River Camel Salmon Action Plan (SAP). The River Camel SAP follows the format of those completed for the Rivers Tamar, Lynher and Tavy. It is the 4th of 7 action plans that will be produced for salmon rivers managed by the Cornwall Area Fisheries, Recreation and Biodiversity Team. This strategy represents an entirely new approach to salmon management within the UK and introduces the concept of river-specific salmon spawning targets as a salmon management tool. In addition, for the first time, Salmon Action Plans have attempted to evaluate in economic terms, all of the contributory components of the salmon fishery. The River Camel Salmon Action Plan contains a description of the river catchment and highlights particular features that are relevant to the salmon population and associated fishery.

Apesar da importância das estações de tratamento de efluentes industriais (ETEIs) na conservação dos ecossistemas, estas podem ser geradoras de gases com maus odores contendo compostos orgânicos voláteis - COVs. Os maus odores têm sido motivos de protestos e reclamações por parte da população circunvizinha às fontes emissoras. Em virtude da conscientização ambiental, e dos impactos sobre a saúde do homem, o objetivo geral deste trabalho é avaliar a eficiência de um biorreator aeróbio piloto no controle de gases odoríferos emitidos em estação de tratamento de efluentes de indústrias de alimentos. Foi desenvolvido um sistema de difusão de ar odorífero em um reator aeróbio de lodo ativado, hermeticamente fechado, operado no regime de batelada sequencial, durante os dias 14, 21, 23, e 30 do mês de julho.Foram realizadas análises dos parâmetros físico-químicos do lodo ativado utilizado no reator aeróbio piloto, como determinação dos sólidos, DBO5, DQO, OD, pH, temperatura e IVL. A atividade da biomassa do lodo ativado foi avaliada por meio do teste de Respirometria. A eficiência do reator quanto à redução da DQO dos gases foi analisada por meio da absorção dos gases em solução de dicromato de potássio. Para avaliação da mensuração dos odores utilizou-se o método de cromatografia gasosa e espectrometria de massa, quantificando amostras de gases odorantes adsorvidas em tubos de carvão ativado, na entrada e na saída dobiorreator. Os resultados obtidos confirmaram o potencial do sistema de difusão em lodos ativados para o tratamento de gases odoríferos em ETEI, com eficiência de remoção dos COV`s variando de 97,3% a 98,9%.

The South Carolina Big 50 includes financial institutions, insurance companies, retailers, retail establishments, hospitals and healthcare organizations. The South Carolina Big 50, however, does exclude government agencies and organizations. The top company remained the same as in the 2007 issue, with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. continuing to be ranked No. 1. BI-LO LLC and Palmetto Health moved from No. 3 and No. 4 to No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
