We consider optimal power allocation policies for a single server, multiuser system. The power is consumed in transmission of data only. The transmission channel may experience multipath fading. We obtain very efficient, low computational complexity algorithms which minimize power and ensure stability of the data queues. We also obtain policies when the users may have mean delay constraints. If the power required is a linear function of rate then we exploit linearity and obtain linear programs with low complexity.

The objective of the present work is to study the effect of electrical process Parameters (duty cycle and frequency) on morphological, structural, and in-vitro corrosion characteristics of oxide films formed on zirconium by plasma electrolytic oxidation in an electrolyte system consisting of 5 g/L of trisodium orthophosphate. The oxide films fabricated on zirconium by systematically varying the duty cycle and frequency are characterized for its phase composition, surface morphology, chemical composition, roughness, wettability, surface energy, scratch resistance, corrosion resistance, apatite forming ability and osteoblast cell adhesion. X-ray diffraction pattern of all the oxide films showed the predominance of m-ZrO2 phase. Dense and uniform films with thickness varying from 9 to 15 mu m and roughness in the range of 0.62 to 1.03 mu m are formed. Porosity of oxide films is found to be increased with an increase infrequency. The water contact angle results demonstrated that the oxide films exhibited similar hydrophilicity to zirconium substrate. All oxide films showed improved corrosion resistance, as indicated by far lower corrosion current density and passive corrosion potential compared to the zirconium substrate in simulated body fluid environment, and among the four different combinations of duty cycle and frequency employed in the present study, the oxide film formed at 95% duty cycle and 50 Hz frequency (HDLF film) showed superior pitting corrosion resistance, which can be attributed to its pore free morpholOgy. Scratch test results showed that the HDLF oxide film adhered firmly to the substrate by developing a notable scratch resistance at 19.5 +/- 1.2.N. Besides the best corrosion resistance and scratch retistance, the HDLF film also showed good apatite forming ability and osteo sarcoma cell adhesion on its surface. The HDLF oxide film on zirconium with superior surface characteristics is believed to be useful for various types of implants in the dental and orthopedic fields. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. The time division multiple access (TDMA) based channel access mechanisms perform better than the contention based channel access mechanisms, in terms of channel utilization, reliability and power consumption, specially for high data rate applications in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Most of the existing distributed TDMA scheduling techniques can be classified as either static or dynamic. The primary purpose of static TDMA scheduling algorithms is to improve the channel utilization by generating a schedule of smaller length. But, they usually take longer time to schedule, and hence, are not suitable for WSNs, in which the network topology changes dynamically. On the other hand, dynamic TDMA scheduling algorithms generate a schedule quickly, but they are not efficient in terms of generated schedule length. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme for TDMA scheduling in WSNs, which can generate a compact schedule similar to static scheduling algorithms, while its runtime performance can be matched with those of dynamic scheduling algorithms. Furthermore, the proposed distributed TDMA scheduling algorithm has the capability to trade-off schedule length with the time required to generate the schedule. This would allow the developers of WSNs, to tune the performance, as per the requirement of prevalent WSN applications, and the requirement to perform re-scheduling. Finally, the proposed TDMA scheduling is fault-tolerant to packet loss due to erroneous wireless channel. The algorithm has been simulated using the Castalia simulator to compare its performance with those of others in terms of generated schedule length and the time required to generate the TDMA schedule. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm generates a compact schedule in a very less time.

Emerging data on cancer suggesting that target-based therapy is promising strategy in cancer treatment. PI3K-AKT pathway is extensively studied in many cancers; several inhibitors target this pathway in different levels. Recent finding on this pathway uncovered the therapeutic applications of PI3K-specific inhibitors; PI3K, AKT, and mTORC broad spectrum inhibitors. Noticeably, class I PI3K isoforms, p110 and p110 catalytic subunits have rational therapeutic application than other isoforms. Therefore, three classes of inhibitors: isoform-specific, dual-specific and broad spectrum were selected for molecular docking and dynamics. First, p110 structure was modelled; active site was analyzed. Then, molecular docking of each class of inhibitors were studied; the docked complexes were further used in 1.2ns molecular dynamics simulation to report the potency of each class of inhibitor. Remarkably, both the studies retained the similar kind of protein ligand interactions. GDC-0941, XL-147 (broad spectrum); TG100-115 (dual-specific); and AS-252424, PIK-294 (isoform-specific) were found to be potential inhibitors of p110 and p110, respectively. In addition to that pharmacokinetic properties are within recommended ranges. Finally, molecular phylogeny revealed that p110 and p110 are evolutionarily divergent; they probably need separate strategies for drug development.

In the recent past, many studies have been carried out on the determination of coefficient of consolidation (c(v)) from the time (t)-deformation (d) data obtained from conventional consolidation tests. Several researchers have also proposed different curve fitting procedures for determining cv from the t-d data. It is anticipated that the cv values obtained from the t-d data may be influenced by initial and secondary compressions. Nevertheless, the pore water pressure data measured during the consolidation process will be independent of initial and secondary compressions. In this study, the conventional Asaoka (1978) method is extended to evaluate cv and end-of-primary (EOP) consolidation from the pore water pressure data measured from laboratory experiments. Laboratory experiments were carried out on the modified one-dimensional consolidation apparatus on different remoulded clay samples measuring pore water pressure during the consolidation process. The cv and EOP computed from the proposed approach have been compared with the results of the t-d data and found to be in good agreement.

Approximately 140 million years ago, the Indian plate separated from Gondwana and migrated by almost 90 degrees latitude to its current location, forming the Himalayan-Tibetan system. Large discrepancies exist in the rate of migration of Indian plate during Phanerozoic. Here we describe a new approach to paleo-latitudinal reconstruction based on simultaneous determination of carbonate formation temperature and delta O-18 of soil carbonates, constrained by the abundances of C-13-O-18 bonds in palaeosol carbonates. Assuming that the palaeosol carbonates have a strong relationship with the composition of the meteoric water, delta O-18 carbonate of palaeosol can constrain paleo-latitudinal position. Weighted mean annual rainfall delta O-18 water values measured at several stations across the southern latitudes are used to derive a polynomial equation: delta(18)Ow = -0.006 x (LAT)(2) - 0.294 x (LAT) - 5.29 which is used for latitudinal reconstruction. We use this approach to show the northward migration of the Indian plate from 46.8 +/- 5.8 degrees S during the Permian (269 M. y.) to 30 +/- 11 degrees S during the Triassic (248 M. y.), 14.7 +/- 8.7 degrees S during the early Cretaceous (135 M. y.), and 28 +/- 8.8 degrees S during the late Cretaceous ( 68 M. y.). Soil carbonate delta O-18 provides an alternative method for tracing the latitudinal position of Indian plate in the past and the estimates are consistent with the paleo-magnetic records which document the position of Indian plate prior to 135 +/- 3 M. y.

El objetivo de este estudio fue a nalizar el cambio de uso de suelo durante un periodo de 18 años en las áreas de bosque de pino y su influencia en la fijación de bióxido de carbono en el Municipio de Dipilto, Nueva Segovia . Se seleccionaron 3 Fincas : San Martín, El Sarrete y Campofresco que presentaron estados de desarrollo: bosque maduro, bosque joven y bosque en regeneración. Se establecieron 9 parcelas temporales (con predominancia P. oocarpa ), utilizándose una parcela temporal para cada es tado d esarrollo. En cada estado de desarrollo se derribó un árbol tipo, se separó en tallo, ramas y follaje. La mayor par te de biomasa seca se encuentra en la finca San Martin con 99.12 Mg/ha estado en desarrollo maduro , estado en desarrollo joven con 77.70 Mg/ ha y estado en desarrollo regeneración 38.63 Mg/ha . El Factor de expansión de biomasa en San Martin 1.59 esta do en desarrollo regeneración, El Sarrete para el estado en desarrollo maduro 1 .40 y finca Campofresco 1.27 estado desarrollo joven . El total de ca rbono almacenado lo presentó San Martín para el estado en desarrollo maduro con 27.13 Mg/ha , joven 22.06 Mg/ha y estado en desarrollo regeneraci ón con 9.82 Mg/ha . El contenido de carbono en el suelo 826.89 Mg/ha regeneración, 503.96 Mg/ha Joven , 294.55 Mg/ ha maduro en San Martín de 0 a 20 cm de profundidad. En un 38.49 % de esa área se emitieron entre 0 - 15 Mg/ha . Emisiones de 26 - 30 Mg/ha se presentaron en un 17.8 1 % del área. Existe un 48.19 % del área total que fijo rangos de 26 - 30 Mg/ha y un 38. 49 % de las áreas fij aron entre 0 - 15 Mg /ha . Se encontró un balance neto positivo de 2925. 2 1 hectáreas, de las cuales 1981.25 hectáreas fijaron rangos de 26 - 30 Mg/ha, 606.06 hectáre as fijaron en un rango entre 0 - 15 Mg /ha y el rango 16 - 25 Mg/ha 337.89 hect áreas .

Microarraying involves laying down genetic elements onto a solid substrate for DNA analysis on a massively parallel scale. Microarrays are prepared using a pin-based robotic platform to transfer liquid samples from microtitre plates to an array pattern of dots of different liquids on the surface of glass slides where they dry to form spots diameter < 200 μm. This paper presents the design, materials selection, micromachining technology and performance of reservoir pins for microarraying. A conical pin is produced by (i) conventional machining of stainless steel or wet etching of tungsten wire, followed by (ii) micromachining with a focused laser to produce a microreservoir and a capillary channel structure leading from the tip. The pin has a flat end diameter < 100 μm from which a 500 μm long capillary channel < 15 μm wide leads up the pin to a reservoir. Scanning electron micrographs of the metal surface show roughness on the scale of 10 μm, but the pins nevertheless give consistent and reproducible spotting performance. The pin capacity is 80 nanolitres of fluid containing DNA, and at least 50 spots can be printed before replenishing the reservoir. A typical robot holds can hold up to 64 pins. This paper discusses the fabrication technology, the performance and spotting uniformity for reservoir pins, the possible limits to miniaturization of pins using this approach, and the future prospects for contact and non-contact arraying technology.

The internal stresses in a duplex coating involving a prequenched layer are believed to change if it is exposed to thermal loading. To characterise the internal stresses in such a duplex coating, a gradient model of finite element method is set up. The initial stress within the substrate developed in as quenching and the internal stresses due to the tempering of the prequenched layer ( TPQL) in such a duplex coating are calculated. The synthetical internal stresses in coating can be estimated by superposing uniform initial stresses developed during plating. The results indicate that the residual tensile stresses due to fabrication in coating will be decreased greatly, or even synthetical compressive internal stresses may arise in the coating.

Cell adhesion, mediated by specific receptor-ligand interactions, plays an important role in biological processes such as tumor metastasis and inflammatory cascade. For example, interactions between beta(2)-integrin ( lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 and/or Mac-1) on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) and ICAM-1 on melanoma cells initiate the bindings of melanoma cells to PMNs within the tumor microenvironment in blood flow, which in turn activate PMN-melanoma cell aggregation in a near-wall region of the vascular endothelium, therefore enhancing subsequent extravasation of melanoma cells in the microcirculations. Kinetics of integrin-ligand bindings in a shear flow is the determinant of such a process, which has not been well understood. In the present study, interactions of PMNs with WM9 melanoma cells were investigated to quantify the kinetics of beta(2)-integrin and ICAM-1 bindings using a cone-plate viscometer that generates a linear shear flow combined with a two-color flow cytometry technique. Aggregation fractions exhibited a transition phase where it first increased before 60 s and then decreased with shear durations. Melanoma-PMN aggregation was also found to be inversely correlated with the shear rate. A previously developed probabilistic model was modified to predict the time dependence of aggregation fractions at different shear rates and medium viscosities. Kinetic parameters of beta(2)-integrin and ICAM-1 bindings were obtained by individual or global fittings, which were comparable to respectively published values. These findings provide new quantitative understanding of the biophysical basis of leukocyte-tumor cell interactions mediated by specific receptor-ligand interactions under shear flow conditions.

En el Centro Experimental Agropecuario La Calera, Managua, Nicaragua, se estableció en siembra de agosto a noviembre de 1976, un ensayo para determinar el tratamiento mas efectivo y rentable en el control de las malezas del cultivo de la soya (Glycine max L. Merril). Se escogió la variedad (Biloxi x Hardee) 69-341 de crecimiento determinado y ciclo vegetativo intermedio de 90-100 días. Los tratamientos que se evaluaron fueron los siguientes: Alachlor, Metribuzin, Linuron, Trifluralina, Alachlor + Metribuzin, Alachlor + Linuron, Alachlor + Trifluralina, Metribuzin + Lanuron, Metribuzin + Trifluralina, Linuron + Trifluralina en dosis de 2049,5 ml, 497,70 g, 966,00 g, 533,75 ml, 1024,75 ml + 248,85 g, 1024,75 ml + 483,00 g, 1024,75 ml + 266,87 ml, 248,85 g + 483,00 g, 248,85 g + 266,87 ml y 483,00 g, + 266,87 ml, por hectárea respectivamente, usando como comparadores un tratamiento mecánico y un testigo absoluto. Los tratamientos fueron distribuidos en un diseño de bloques completos al azar, con cuatro repeticiones. La parcela experimental consto de ocho surcos de cinco metros de largo, espaciados a cincuenta centímetros entre si y a 2,50 centímetros entre planta, correspondiendo a la parcela útil los cuatro surcos centrales a los cuales se les elimino 50,0 centímetros en cada extremo. El análisis de varianza practicado en los rendimientos de granos y en los porcentajes de control de malezas determino diferencia altamente significativa entre tratamientos al nivel de 0,01 de probabilidad de error. La mezcla de Alachlor + Metribuzin fue el tratamiento herbicida que ejerció el mayor control sobre gramíneas y hojas ancha, con 97,00 por ciento de control hasta los 60 días de emergida la soya. Los tratamientos Metribuzin, Metribuzin + Trifluralina y Alachlor fueron estadisticamente igual al nivel del 0,05 de probabilidad de error con: 74,00; 72,00 y 71;00 por ciento. Los tratamientos que menor porcentaje de control de malezas ejercieron hasta los 60 dias fueron Linuron y Linuron + Trifluralina con 34.00 por ciento. Los mayores rendimientos significativos de grano de soya, se lograron con: testigo mecanico, Alachlor + Metribuzin, Alachlor, y Alachlor + Linuron obteniendo 2,539.00, 2.294.00, 2.279.00 y 2.194.00 kilogramos por hectárea respectivamente. Los menores rendimientos correspondieron a: Trifluralina con 1,103.00 hectarea y testigo absoluto con 844.00 por hectarea. El analisis economico de los rendimientos por tratamiento, revelo que los mayores ingresos netos se obtuvieron con: testigo mecánico, Alachlor + Metribuzin, y Alachlor y Alachlor + Linuron de: 1,945.22, 1,800.12, 1,771.87 y 1,668.31 córdobas por hectárea respectivamente, pero la mayor relación beneficio-costo se logro con los tratamientos Alachlor, Alachlor + Metribuzin, testigo mecánico y Alachlor + Linuron, con 2.31, 2.30, 2.23 y 2.21 respectivamente.

本文利用Eulerian坐标系下弹塑性大变形基本公式及分叉屈曲的理论,采用有限元数值法,探索平面应变条件下具有幂硬化弹塑性材料,在不同位移加载参数及不同原始孔洞体积百分数下,材料内部空洞的长大、剪切分叉以及材料宏观力学行为.计算结果表明,宏观材料的软化、塑性可膨胀性、内部损伤的发展以及剪切分叉的临界应变值等,都与加载参数α、原始空洞尺度有着密切的关系.

在日冕磁环中观测到速度为100km/sec的等离子体流动。本文采用平面和柱面模型讨论了这个虹吸流动的稳定性。用数值方法计算了色散方程,得到了不稳定性增长率与扰动波的频率。主要结论是:磁场是一个致稳因素,流速是一个不稳定因素。本文讨论了日冕磁环中是否存在定常的高速虹吸流动的问题。

沿极光区磁力线大约在2000公里到8000公里的高度范围内,存在着一个等离子体湍流和大尺度平行电场的加速区。沿磁力线运动的等离子体片中的电子通过此加速区时,受到等离子体湍流和平行电场的共同作用,形成电子沉降的倒V结构。从一维准线性的动力学方程出发,导出了沉降电子通量的能谱方程,得出了电子通量能谱的理论公式。对等离子体湍流和平行电场对沉降电子能谱的影响作了分析和讨论。本文所提出的理论可以解释目前观测到的某些基本现象。
