Meeting technologies and optimal trading mechanisms in competitive search markets

In a market in which sellers compete by posting mechanisms, we study how the properties of the meeting technology affect the mechanism that sellers select. In general, sellers have incentive to use mechanisms that are socially efficient. In our environment, sellers achieve this by posting an auction with a reserve price equal to their own valuation, along with a transfer that is paid by (or to) all buyers with whom the seller meets. However, we define a novel condition on meeting technologies, which we call “invariance,” and show that the transfer is equal to zero if and only if the meeting technology satisfies this condition.

El tema tractat en aquest treball són els suports publicitaris online y offline, des de la perspectiva de la planificació de mitjans. El desenvolupament de l’exposició es fonamenta en l’anàlisi comparatiu entre els mitjans i suports publicitaris offline y online actuals. A través de la investigació i la recopilació de dades sobre la compra de mitjans, les mesures publicitàries, l’anàlisi de l’efectivitat i les darreres inversions anuals, arribarem a unes conclusions en les que descobrirem si els conceptes estudiats són els mateixos tant en l’àmbit offline com en l’online.

The management of iron deficiency in inflammatory bowel disease--an online tool developed by the RAND/UCLA appropriateness method.

BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency is a common and undertreated problem in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). AIM: To develop an online tool to support treatment choice at the patient-specific level. METHODS: Using the RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method (RUAM), a European expert panel assessed the appropriateness of treatment regimens for a variety of clinical scenarios in patients with non-anaemic iron deficiency (NAID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). Treatment options included adjustment of IBD medication only, oral iron supplementation, high-/low-dose intravenous (IV) regimens, IV iron plus erythropoietin-stimulating agent (ESA), and blood transfusion. The panel process consisted of two individual rating rounds (1148 treatment indications; 9-point scale) and three plenary discussion meetings. RESULTS: The panel reached agreement on 71% of treatment indications. 'No treatment' was never considered appropriate, and repeat treatment after previous failure was generally discouraged. For 98% of scenarios, at least one treatment was appropriate. Adjustment of IBD medication was deemed appropriate in all patients with active disease. Use of oral iron was mainly considered an option in NAID and mildly anaemic patients without disease activity. IV regimens were often judged appropriate, with high-dose IV iron being the preferred option in 77% of IDA scenarios. Blood transfusion and IV+ESA were indicated in exceptional cases only. CONCLUSIONS: The RUAM revealed high agreement amongst experts on the management of iron deficiency in patients with IBD. High-dose IV iron was more often considered appropriate than other options. Aquest projecte té com a propòsit crear una ràdio musical participativa amb difusió online i FM on a partir d’una interfície web l’usuari pugui participar-hi activament votant les cançons que hi sonaran. A més a més els usuaris registrats gaudiran d’una xarxa social on podran fer amistats i deixa’ls-hi comentaris. Primer de tot faig una ràpida introducció a l’estat de l’art de les ràdios actuals, a continuació analitzo els requeriments, especifico el comportament desitjat del sistema, explico detalladament el disseny i l’ implementació i, per últim, faig un seguit de proves de les quals n’extrec les conclusions.

Online estimation of respiratory mechanics in non-invasive pressure support ventilation: a bench model study.

An online algorithm for determining respiratory mechanics in patients using non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in pressure support mode was developed and embedded in a ventilator system. Based on multiple linear regression (MLR) of respiratory data, the algorithm was tested on a patient bench model under conditions with and without leak and simulating a variety of mechanics. Bland-Altman analysis indicates reliable measures of compliance across the clinical range of interest (± 11-18% limits of agreement). Resistance measures showed large quantitative errors (30-50%), however, it was still possible to qualitatively distinguish between normal and obstructive resistances. This outcome provides clinically significant information for ventilator titration and patient management.

SYSGENET: a meeting report from a new European network for systems genetics.

The first scientific meeting of the newly established European SYSGENET network took place at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, April 7-9, 2010. About 50 researchers working in the field of systems genetics using mouse genetic reference populations (GRP) participated in the meeting and exchanged their results, phenotyping approaches, and data analysis tools for studying systems genetics. In addition, the future of GRP resources and phenotyping in Europe was discussed.

En este trabajo se analiza la homosexualidad en China y el papel desempeñado por Internet para la sensibilización y su conocimiento. Partiendo del contexto sociocultural de China y por medio de entrevistas a homosexuales en revistas, programas de televisión online y blogs se analiza su identidad conflictiva con los valores tradicionales de la cultura china. También se abordan los avances llevados a cabo por las instituciones educativas en proyectos de sensibilización y el aumento de la información sobre la homosexualidad. El incremento continuo de información en Internet es un hecho que ayuda a la creciente visibilidad y tolerancia hacia la comunidad homosexual en China.
