O objetivo deste estudo in vitro foi comparar os efeitos da fotoativação pelos sistemas luz halógena e LED na adesão de braquetes ortodônticos em diferentes tempos pós-colagem (imediato, 24h e 7d). Braquetes com adesivo pré-aplicado (Gemini series; APC adhesive precoated brackets; 3M Unitek, USA) foram colados na superfície vestibular de dentes bovinos. O esmalte dos dentes foi condicionado utilizando-se o primer auto-condicionante (Transbond SEP, 3M Unitek, USA) em todos os espécimes, conforme recomendações do fabricante. Setenta e dois dentes foram divididos em 2 grupos (n=36), conforme o sistema de fotoativação (luz halógena ou LED) e sub-divididos (n=12) de acordo com o tempo pós-colagem. Para os grupos luz halógena, o tempo de fotoativação foi de 20s e para os grupos LED foi de 10s. O teste de resistência ao cisalhamento foi realizado com auxílio de uma máquina de ensaios universal nos diferentes tempos pós-colagem: imediato, 24h e 7d. O valor médio de adesão para os grupos luz halógena foi de 20,01±5,24MPa e, para os grupos fotoativados pelo sistema LED 17,35±5,07MPa, sendo estes resultados estatisticamente diferentes. Quando comparado o efeito do tempo pós-colagem, os resultados revelaram que os valores de adesão foram significantemente maiores para o tempo de 7d. O resultado do teste ANOVA 2 – fatores revelou não existir diferença estatística entre a interação sistema de fotoativação e tempos pós-colagem. O teste de Tukey mostrou que para as 4 condições experimentais nos tempos imediato e 24h, os resultados não diferiram estatisticamente, independentemente do sistema de fotoativação. Somente com relação ao grupo luz halógena-7d, os resultados mostraram diferenças estatisticamente significantes. O grupo LED-7d desempenhou comportamento intermediário entre os grupos. Because the routine use of frozen semen has some limitation that don´t permit its use in a large-scale, it is necessary to use the cooled semen. The equine cooled semen is normally used to enable that a genetic material with high quality be spread over long distances. When it reaches the temperature of refrigeration, the sperm metabolic activity decreases and the free radicals formation minimize. These ones cause irreversible damages to the sperm cells and, so, its lower formation is very advantageous. However, when we manipulate the semen using conservation techniques, like refrigeration, it is necessary to be aware about the sperm characteristics and fragilities, because, if performed erroneously, this technique can be harmful to the sperm function as well as to the time of sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction. It is necessary that cooling rate is slow and that the time and the storage temperature of the sperm obey the ranges that are already established. Moreover, we should make use of diluents and obtain the ideal sperm dilution, so that its use can be optimized. It´s also important to emphasize that to obtain good fertility rates, the semen, after processed (collected and diluted) must be conditioned in recipients specially developed for this purpose

This work was based to study the influence of the storage temperature (cold and room temperature) in the quality of inflorescences strelitzia. The scapes were selected, labeled and there were zero problems concerning mechanical damage, disease and/or plagues. Subsequently this period, the scapes were moved randomly to recipients with water, in which two postharvest trials were conducted. In experiment 1, the flower scapes were placed in buckets with water from public supply and sanitation department and taken to a cold room at temperature of 7.5 degrees C and RH of 90%, for a twelve day period. For the experiment 2, were kept under the same conditions but at room temperature for a period of six days. In both experiments, the visual analysis: color, gloss, stains (by assigning notes), opening and drop florets (count) were evaluated at intervals of four days in cold and every 48 hours at ambient temperature conditions. The sepal is the organ that showed greater loss in coloration. The variable gloss showed the same pattern for the two experiments. Incidences of stains on the inflorescences occurred in patches at room temperature. The scapes increased number of florets open in cold. This tendency did not occur at room temperature. No were observed differences in the fall of florets. Conclude that the storage temperature does not contribute to postharvest quality of strelitzia.

This study aimed to the development of cassava mashed with added maltodextrin of waxy maize starch as an alternative to the semi-ready product. The experimental design was completely randomized using blocks in 4x7 factorial, with three replications. The treatments were the combination of maltodextrin concentrations added in the cassava mass (0, 5, 10 and 15% on dry weight) with storage time (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 days after preparation) and two condition (environment and refrigerated temperature). The variety chosen to the processing was the IAC 576-70. The data were subjected to variance analysis. The means were compared by Tukey test at 5%. The content of maltodextrin from waxy maize starch to 15% was effective in controlling the increase of texture. The mass of cassava with the addition of maltodextrin showed to be product of easy preparation, showin IAC 576-70g viability to be produced in industrial scale.

This work evaluated the effect of vinasse (residue from sugar cane) in high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes having in mind that it is deposited at temperatures of 80-90˚C on the geomembrane in storage tanks. The objective was to evaluate the resistance of the geomembrane in contact with residue in a total period of 4 months. Physical and mechanical tests, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to determine degradation of polymer membranes after chemical immersion. In general, the results obtained show that the vinasse affected the geomembranes significantly in some aspects, for instance, the thickness of the material presented a variation of 7.8%. The average values in both directions at yielding showed a significant loss of tensile strength (34.13%) and strain (23.48%) and an increase in the modulus of elasticity (9.63%). At the rupture the behavior presented the same trend: a loss of 32% for tensile strength and 24.4% for the deformation were observed. Tear strength presented small decrease (4.72%) and puncture resistance a increase of 7.9% after immersion of geomembranes. The TGA tests were not efficient to detect evidence of degradation in samples of geomembranes after exposures, but identified problems in the quality of the supplied material.
